It seems like Eloy is commiting to each hit and playing with more conviction. Nate has the patterns to pull it off but comes through more timid and unsure.

Your drum mix sounds a lot more like the original, more of a lo-fi vibe. His mix gives the song a different feel, more like an Israel Houghton track, or black gospel in general. Thank you for sharing your work!

But, correct me if I’m wrong: did you listen to the track with the drums and Eloy on the drum-less track? I however love this “fashionable new concept” of how to reinterpret and do renditions of tracks rather than covers. Done hundreds of these, great fun. And above all - it’s creative! 👌🏻🤩

@@flowerlandofjohn it’s inevitable that I had to listen to the track with drums in order to make the lead sheet, since I needed to be able to sync for my editor. Luckily, I have a terrible memory

Yes, Eloy only listened to the tack with the drums after recording his version. That's why his interpretation is a little different from the original one.

@@8020drummerOk, but why was it inevitable for you when Eloy did it without? I don’t follow 😅 I do these “removed drum-renditions” all the time, and yes one usually has to add a click track instead of the drum track to be able to play along (and for easy editing), and I imagine that’s how Eloy also did it. That’s how he’s (to my understanding) been using “Moises” previously. However, not that it really matters but it just struck me that you actually didn’t do the same task. Peace ✌🏻

@@ufo_ninja not true. I did a first listen and run through with the drumless track where I decided on the drum part, but that was cut from the final version of my video. While I used the KZitem version to make the lead sheet to make it easier for my editor, I didn’t have much time to pay attention to the drums. If I posted my first take, you would see the only differences are that I’m catching the hits in the second version.

This is fair. In the edit, I removed the footage of me playing through the first time and deciding the drum part, and for that I was going off only the "no drums" track. It's true that in order to make the lead sheet I used the youtube version, which made it easier for my editor, because I could call out time indices, like "resuming at 2:41", and that would've been harder in the DAW, though not impossible. In my own head, I'd kept the spirit of the challenge, since I decided the drum part before listening to the track with drums, but I understand that, as edited, it looks like an oversight ;)

I like Nates bass drum pattern much better. Did not like Eloys cymbals in the breakdown. I feel 14year old Eloy would have done much better.
