If you want to try again: Unscrew each lid and quickly cover with a single layer of plastic wrap and secure by wrapping an elastic tight around the neck. Take a sleeve of mentos and put into a manually and heavily perforated straw the width of the mentos (large Boba tea straw maybe). Flip bottle over pointed straight down, and scotch tape the mentos straw to the bottle so it is resting pointed straight into the opening of the bottle against the single layer of plastic wrap. Do that for all bottles and set in place. Drop the whole thing, and each straw of mentos should break through the plastic wrap seal of each bottle as it hits the ground. This pinpoints the mentos delivery with more mentos, only mixes them at impact, keeps carbonation in the bottles, and gets around the many issues with the caps by using a very thin membrane that the mentos straw can easily pierce and won't restrict outflow for thrust.

That was amazing regardless of how big of a fail it was. You gave it the college try, be proud! I'm wondering if creating a contraption to simultaneously break off all those caps at the same time could have worked..

Basically Mythbusters tried something in the same vein as this. Simultaneous release was an issue. Two liter bottles didn't work and they had to use water cooler jugs. They had to put the jugs under enormous air compression. When they finally got it to work they strapped their test dummy into it and the thing went pinwheeling in the air and the dummy was estimated to have sustained fatal injuries.

50 seconds in and I’m already on the floor laughing because I paused to read the whole email from Samantha. It’s pure gold. I would LOVE to see that whole email chain.

I just imagine LA Beast in a lab coat in front a white board scratching his chin while deciding what kind of flying machine he would build.

Coming up with a working Mentos-cola delivery system is pretty challenging but I think I've got one: You could use a tube* smaller than the cola bottle lid filled with mentos, then put it inside the bottle within a stretched balloon that can get cut and break with weight. Do this with the same number of bottles glued to a piece of plywood and maybe we could see Beast fly! *maybe those plastic beakers they use to serve shooters? It needs to be pretty solid to cut the balloon.

I was thinking if he built it all the right way up not shake it and then hot glue nails to the caps to serve as a puncture device then flip it and as quick as possible and jump and then all the bottles would be punctured all at once and the nails should also fall out and allow the thrust to be exerted out if that makes sense

Unscrew each lid and quickly cover with a single layer of plastic wrap and then seal by wrapping an elastic tight around the neck. Take a sleeve of mentos and put into a manually and heavily perforated straw the width of the mentos (large Boba tea straw maybe). Flip bottle over pointed straight down, and scotch tape the mentos straw so it is resting pointed straight into the opening of the bottle against the single layer of plastic wrap. Do that for all bottles and set in place. Drop the whole thing, and each straw of mentos should break through the plastic wrap seal of each bottle as it hits the ground. This pinpoints the mentos delivery with more mentos, only mixes them at impact, keeps carbonation in the bottles, and gets around the cap issue by using a very thin membrane that the mentos straw can easily pierce.

The straighter this hits the ground, the more mentos will mix with cola
