Yup its called a CMOS battery most computers use a button cell 3V watch battery. It stores info about the motherboard so if u hit BIOS key and make changes itll save but if you take battery out it'll default BIOS settings to manufacturer settings. In short Tracks time, Holds settings changes for motherboard.

@@StevieSells Its called a CMOS battery, every computer has one. The one on the Mac isn't your typical 2032 battery

Love the table! You could also reuse the usb port as a charger

You should've kept the original components as it itself is cool to see and some rgb strips to light them up. It would've turned into a museum art history piece.

Can you repurpose the USB ports on the case or add some to allow you to charge devices??

if you replaced the ports with a usb extender that goes into a power bank or plug then probably, theres no chance finding a way to adapt the Apple front panel pcb :D

I kind of think the best option for an old premium desktop PC is to gut it and try to ebay the old PCB boards....and then try to reuse the case and rebuild a PC form factor into it, or just flip the cleaned case on ebay too. That's assuming no flip value for the original. Taking a used case and turning it into Ikea furniture PLUS a working desktop PC would be a plus. Turning a pair of stacked used PC into a podium that mounted a wall projector unit would be great. Turning it into a digital security station near an entrance way, maybe add a gun safe and there might be a market for it.

A Mac G5 in great condition... And you wasted the components inside from the short you made to "extract gold" in which you didn't. A quick look at listing... Some parts are 30$ each, not a very smart decision for a guy doing business. But then again it's your's. Also nice table btw

I like the table, but think it would look even better and be closer to a standard coffee table height if you put on much shorter, stumpy legs. Or even just had the computer case hard up against the floor

The battery keeps the BIOS running when your computer is off so it remebers your settings, and what time it is.
