Yeah, historically prior to 2021 I never properly enjoyed using XP, and had an obsession with Vista and 98 (which I got both working in VirtualBox as early as around five years ago in 2019).

I loved Win2K back in the days. It was the first stable Windows version that was mature enough for both gaming and workstation applications. It was stable as a rock and did not have the things I considered as unnecessary bloat like MSN Messenger, a theme engine and a bloated media player with skins and visualizations. I have used it to end of support on my game server and I still have an old laptop with W2000 in case I need to run older applications like reprogramming my UPS via serial. For my workstation I skipped XP and switched from 2k to Vista on a brand new computer when Vista was released.

These days XP is considered the "iconic" 2000s era OS and in its final state one of the greatest OSes ever made, and it's rich with nostalgia, but it SUCKED out of the box, until around 2004/5 and the release and widespread installation of Service Pack 2, Windows 2000 was the way more stable and better featured OS in many regards.

Yeah. Also, some of the different versions (specifically the Professional x64 version, which is just Windows Server 2003 with XP badging and client version features) don't have compatibility with even some programs of the time, such as Norton AV '07 (maybe a blessing in disguise), since XP Pro x64 never got SP3.

WTF is this comment about?
@TheLionAndTheLamb777
8 ай бұрын
That is both a true and false comment. Windows 11 has updated security patches, device support, software support. You have to do some patching just to get Windows 2000 online and even then it's a huge security risk and just begging for attacks from viruses and ransomware. HOWEVER, I fully agree with you on the layout and design of the GUI. I actually prefer the design and layout of the Windows Vista (Classic Theme) but it's a buggy mess. Even Vista is by far more secure than Windows 2000 online. You also are going to have a difficult time finding drivers for the already hard to find compatible devices.
@steelsofliquid

Well, in terms of general nostalgia, all older versions beat 10 and 11, though in terms of era compatibility and modern-day security, OSes like even Vista, 7 and 8.1 have better security, and 2000 can't run a decent scope of 90's games (such as NFS II SE and Fallout), making 98SE better in gaming. But Windows 2000 is awesome to look back on, and after making a custom theme it looks even better imo. Also, as the description mentions, I edit my videos in Adobe Premiere Elements 2022 (in which I sometimes joke that it's "Madobe Premiere Elements… lol). Most of my videos are, apart from early (nowadays pre-OSHolder2019/SteelsOfLiquid or "legacy") videos edited in OpenShot and some others done in DaVinci Resolve.
