@Goughie Thanks for the clear video! Have you considered to purchase a 1.4x converter to compensate for the max 300 mm of the 70-300? I own this lens as well and I am wondering if this would help me to extend the reach to 420. Or, would this cause a significant drop in autofocus performance and image quality? Another option is to change the settings to 1.4 digital conversion. This obviously will bring the 40 mp of my XT5 down to about 20. But that may be good enough for my occasional bird photography. It will at least not cost an extra stop of ISO.

Hi Goughie... Great review! I have the 70-300mm and though I think it's a great lens, at times it's not quite enough zoom. I photograph a lot of birds and I'm really interested in the 150-600mm. I am an amateur hobbyist photographer so for me, the cost of this lens is a big luxury. I've been thinking about it for a long time LOL! However, I think your review has sealed my decision to buy one😃. Thank you for a good informative video.

I noticed quickly with the X-T5 (don't have the X-H2s) that I no longer needed to use the 1.4x or 2X TC (on the 100-400) Performance is better without either TC and at 400mm it is F/5.6 which in dark places such as forests, jungles etc (and the UK for almost whole year) having the extra stop of light is worth more than the extra reach (especially as with 40MP you can crop that little bit further)

Great photos, by the way! I definitely side with you - not ever having used this lens - I'd rent it out once, twice, three times, before purchasing. I just don't have that much cause for this focal length, however amazing it is!

Good to see this lens in action, won’t be adding to my Fuji kit which is aimed at lightweight. I have the 70-300 with a 1.4 tc and that does pretty good job on the XT5, actually captured lovely Kestrel shots yesterday with it. Still prefer Nikon 200-500mm but that is super heavy. Loved the puffin shots

I use this lens, mostly hand held but with a pistol grip with release trigger. It is superb. I still rest on a fence or post if available but sharpness at 600mm on both XS10 and XT3 is of saleable quality much of the time.

Hello! Would you recommend the xt-5 for wildlife photography? I know that the buffer on this camera isn’t ideal and the autofocus is decent (yet still lacks compared to other cameras), but do you think using it as a primarily camera for wildlife effective?

I’m a 69 year old sports/ wildlife photographer enthusiast….. while I have a bad case of GAS, I did buy this lens and used it once and realized how heavy it is for me to carry around. One of the main reasons why I left Canon after 35+ years is because counting around all the equipment. All day was quite heavy. That’s why I love Fujii so much, I use mostly the 70/300 especially for Sports. It’s so easy to carry around. I can even throw that lens into my backpack or camera bag and don’t even realize I’m carrying it. If anybody’s interested in purchasing my 70/300 I’m selling for an amazing price. I also have my older 55/200 I’m selling plus other Fuji lenses.

Thanks for producing informative videos, look forward to watching more of them. I’m a Sony A9 + Sony 200-600mm with 1.4x converter f/9 to get the reach (840mm) or I can use the in camera crop setting to get 11mb file trust me 1.6kg for the Fuji 150-600mm lens is not heavy. I’m looking to replace my Sony with a lighter more portable hand holdable kit. I’m considering to the X-H2s and the 150-600mm as an option, I think the combined weight of that Fuji kit is about the same as my Sony 200-600. For me the Fuji kit would be a light easy to carry and hand holdable option. It’s lighter, has longer reach has 2MP more, no blackout (like my Sony) is capable of 40fps, amazing video specs - what’s not to like. I’ll be going to a camera shop to try one out fingers crossed it will be exactly what I need. My main photography is wildlife/birds

The lens looks similar to the Sony 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 (G Master). The Sony version is bulkier but with a 6.3 on the long end is more usable than the Fuji at F8.

@@Goughie there are shorter lenses that go up to 200 or 300 such as 80-200 or 80-300. I don't have problem with the Sony lens starting at 200mm. Some people would find the Fuji lens having a bit more on the short end to be more practical. A shorter focal length would be ideal for landscape shots. When you get into wildlife photography, you need a bigger zoom to keep a distance for personal safety as well as not disturbing animals in their natural habitat.

I have to Sony 200-600 very heavy lens for me I have to have the 1.4x attached all the time and that’s f/9 though even at f/9 never have problems with lower light. It’s just too heavy for me now to hand hold for bird in flight tracking, so I need a lighter setup the x-H2s and 150-600 could be the combination I need.

Hey man beautiful photos, I was wondering, do you use one capture or light room to edit your photos? I have the 150-600 and sometimes it just feels like the lens isn't sharp during editing, I use light room and I see these worm squiggly lines as well, was wondering if anyone knows a solution or some settings to help, I am fairly new to photography so I'm sure it's mostly my fault lol, any tips help, thank you!

Credible and balanced review, cool pics and footage, Goughie. (Fade to monochrome ending not really a plus, IMO - abrupt and risks impression that it was in error.) Were the puffins approachable/friendly? Fav image is the puffin w/open wings. When focal limiter is active, is there something in the camera display to indicate that status? Multiple focus control buttons - when programmed, do they all do the same thing, or can they be programmed individually? Cheers!
@Goughie

That’s ending was actually a bit of a mistake! Should have faded to a puffin photo! But it takes 2-3 hours for me to export and upload again, not time I had and already 2 days late! From memory the limiter doesn’t, but if you set up a preset that does show!

If you’re U.K. based Fujifilm will actually let you rent basically any of their lenses free for 48 hours, if you want them longer they tend to still be well priced! But you can only do so many a year In terms of this video, they sent it to me free of charge for 2 weeks Feel free to hit me up on insta and I’ll explain how if you’re U.K. based

I have the xt4 and rented this lens last winter. And indeed in lowlight situations the high iso just ruins the photos. I am planning of renting it again this summer to compare it a bit. I do wonder if the 100-400 has a prettier background separation due to the lower aperture. Fun video and nice puffins by the way!
