Regarding highway road noise, that’s a tough one. Sometimes the charts say one thing but the feel is just not quite there. I think it’s a combination of vibrations and sound frequency. Vibrations affect the way we hear sound, and obviously two sounds can have the same amplitude (volume) but the higher frequency noise will sound like garbage while the deeper, lower frequency sounds are less obtrusive.

Minor thought on styling between EQS and Lucid. As a European the Lucid looks very American with a huge and fat boot (back), it is just what I see as a styling and very typical on American cars. Ford tried this styling when they bought one of their large sedans to Europe and it killed this product. So the Lucid looks like an American car that Euopeans tend not to like, while the EQS is European styling, with some fast-back styling and I can understand why you don't like it.

I'm neither a fan of the EQS nor Lucid styling (esp their rears). Both of their rears are bloated and soft. I think much of it has to do with aerodynamics. So true! Many public chargers are a mish-mash on long trips! We take long road trips in our i3 REx (thank goodness for ICE backup!), always to find some different setup (EVGo, Blink, SemaConnect, Greenlots, EA, Chargepoint, etc) all with their own ideas. At least Darren Palmer from Ford promised a more integrated network soon (if not, there will be PLENTY of miffed new EV owners). Love or hate Tesla, they understand seamlessness.
@kens97sto171

I don't think it's really fair to call Electrify America a total disaster based on one charger that you have that's always down. Kyle's had a variety of experiences with EA, And no doubt it is not as well implemented as tesla. But he does hold a cannonball run record cross country using Electrify America in a porsche, And they had a few glitches no doubt. Plenty of other road trips done in other cars using EA. Kyle always seems to find it to be an adventure when something goes wrong but I can't think of a time that he didn't find a way around the problem and get it worked out. For a lot of people that would be absolutely unacceptable. But the other thing to consider is 99% of the time you're charging at home and road trip charging doesn't come into play at all. That's where quietness, fit and finish, interior design, exterior design, practicality and all those other factors become important. It doesn't matter how good the car road trips if it isn't as good at your daily needs. It would be great if you could have all of it. But that's rarely the case even with an ice car. Sometimes you have to pick a product based on the fact that it covers 85% of the things that you really want or need and it's lacking in some other ways. I drive one of the most boring cars on the planet. A Toyota Prius. It's 13 years old with 378,000 miles on it. Why do I drive it ? because I drive for a living, it was cheap to purchase used, it's extremely practical , and reliable, and very low cost to operate.. about $.08/ mile, and easy to work on myself, and I can get parts for it. Those things are more important to me than acceleration or handling as a daily driver. I have other cars to go have fun with.

The majority of car buying consumers are not "ready for an adventure" when it comes to charging an electric vehicle regardless of the charging speed of this vehicle or that vehicle. IMO the strength of Tesla is their charging network. Pull in to the space, put the charger in, wait for your desired charge, take charger out. Leave. Works like that 99.5% of the time. No worrying about taking out a card, billing, reliability, etc, etc. That's a huge selling point for those shopping for an EV. If they open the charging network to other EV's that's great but I'm not interested in taking chances with other charging options or using a third party app to locate this charger, that charger, better route planner, etc. I'm willing to bet most other car buying consumers are not either. @@mrnoname7370 I have owned both a Model S and a Taycan, and there is no doubt the charging experience of the Tesla is superior, but it isn't without its own flaws. Stations being partially down or chargers on reduced power. Sharing power at crowded chargers. Even with the EA issues, the superior charging speed the Taycan more than makes up for the little issues you can have. There's a reason why the Taycan holds the EV cannonball record using the EA network despite inferior rated range and inferior charging network, and it's because you spend way less time charging. On my Model S, I would be lucky to sustain over 100kW of charge for more than a couple of minutes with low battery. My Taycan holds well over that to 80% without batting an eye, and holds over 250kW to 50% state of charge. Definitely agree with out about the Model 3 or even Y. Those are perfect EVs. They are the benchmark. Anyone looking for a car around 50k should be seriously considering the car, whether or no they are interested in an EV. My issue with the S and the X is their build quality and interiors don't match their price point. I have LCID stock so I could be slightly bias LOL but if i had the money the air would be the EV i would choose

I think eqs shows better domination, as Plaid is know for its speed, and why do we even discuss the interiors of plaid, it's the same thing we see starting from a 40 grand model 3 , all the way upto 150 grand model s, so considering its speedit's amazing, but at some of time, when the hype of 9.2 quater goes down, it all comes to self satisfaction, and what are even going to do with that acceleration Taycan - again as he said just way way to expensive, it ranks last at my list, dont get me wrong, I love ths interior nd the exterior, but that's what u see, what u dont see is the options which will easily tick over a 250 grand ,u can easily get a urus for that price point Lucid- I love lucid air, its shows the best stability of acceleration and luxury interior, and I was in confusion on deciding with eqs and lucid Eqs - but still I go with eqs , because it has s price point of 102 grand, and it AWD is 127 grand [ with all exclusive package ] Eqs somewhat gives u self satisfaction, when u drive it at night, eqs has best interior , and no one can defeat it with luxury, and hyper screen makes it looks so advance , I mean no one can play with ambient lighting and interior of a car as good as Mercedes, its lack acceleration when u compare with the giants, 12.2 sec quater mile, but that's what u all u need!! And interior is what u want!!!

Another commonly missed thought about the yoke steering wheel... Tesla likely designed the airbag in the Model S to be inflated without the top portion of the steering wheel being there to support the airbag inflating and doing its job of cushioning someones noggin. Where as, the Model 3/Y was not designed for that so the aftermarket yokes are reusing the OEM airbag that wasn't designed for the missing top portion of the wheel rim.

After a year or two of living with EA on trips the time will be right to pull the next trigger.

🤔 Watch the latest Bjørn Ioniq 5 trip. Had issues with the battery temperature window. Below 20°C, poor. Above 45°C (50°?) Especially after charging, big performance restriction. That's all very well if you run a data logger like he does, but if you pull out of a charger and onto a highway, floor the accelerator, and........ Nothing, you could be in trouble. Already have an EQS on pre-order; once my turn comes in the queue (estimated Jan/Feb) it becomes a real order. However, I am heavily biased as I am a long term S Class owner. Tesla is simply too rough a ride and lacks the luxury my wife and I enjoy, so it grabs 4th place for me. Porsche takes 3rd simply because the value isn't there compared to the others, very nice vehicle though. Lucid is a very close 2nd to the Mercedes. Doesn't have the luxury of the EQS and the lack of dealer network is concerning; but I love the Model X like windshield and bi-directional charging (where we live we often have severe thunderstorms that knocks out electricity for 2-6 hours). Since the EQS is a pre-order I have a couple of months to change my mind and go Lucid. We shall see.

I would not buy the current gen eqs. It's smaller interior than a normal s class. The battery at the bottom wasn't accounted for well so your knees sit up higher. I'd wait for second gen eqs and stick to gas/hybrid s class. Love Mercedes but I don't think the eqs is worth it over current s classes with the interior head room and raised floor. Let them iron out the interior kinks and get the second gen. Stick with your current s class or get a new one but it's definitely a compromise for rear passengers to be in an eqs. At least sit in it and compare yourself.

@@Tential1 Thank you for the comment Maxwell, that is exactly our plan. The dealership is not sure when their initial allotment of 4 EQS will be released to them. 3 are in port on the east coast, one on a ship. When one arrives at the dealership (predicted in about a month) we will do the all important sitting in the rear. That is especially important to us as my wife rides in the rear seat due to medical reasons. Based on online reviews headroom will not be an issue, as you point out, it will be in seating position relative to floor. When she tests the car seat either the EQS order will be submitted or we wait until we can see the Lucid up close. Lucid plans to open a studio in our area (Dallas) in 1Q2022. We are committed to electric so a new S Class would only occur if both the EQS and Lucid are not acceptable to her, either one works very well for me. Stay healthy!

Well, we now have a reservation for Lucid Air Grand Touring....as well as keeping the EQS reservation. 3 months ago I said Lucid is a very close second to the EQS, and that we might change our mind. As of today, the Air has the nod. Over the last 3 months the following has given the Air the lead. 1) We have had two sightings of the EQS on the road and we've been able to see it a lot in the showroom., The EQS just doesn't standout as something special in terms of exterior styling. The Air is truly eye-catching. We still haven't seen one live as the nearest studio is almost 300 miles away. The Air exterior styling is distinctive, the EQS is not. We are also liking the simple design of the Air interior as opposed to the flashiness of the EQS hyper screen and lighting. 2) As we design our home solar system and the addition of home batteries for storage we are appreciating the bi-directional charging feature more and more. The Air battery storage is the equivalent of about 6 Powerwalls. Nice to have that additional battery reserve in the event of a repeat Texas freeze. 3) Three months ago we were seeing EQS reviews here but no real Air reviews. As we have been seeing Air reviews we are becoming more impressed with the luxury attributes of the Air. Those are the reasons why the Air has surpassed the EQS in our minds. Could the preference change again? Possible, but probably not unless Lucid ordering is significantly delayed. Lucid has told us about two months before we will be asked to place an order, with delivery about 2-4 months post order. The Mercedes dealer is now telling us April at the earliest when our reservation needs to become an order, and 2-3 months for delivery.

Also, do you think Superchargers are still a big advantage for Tesla in Europe or has CCS caught up?
@e-redj
2 жыл бұрын
It depends on where you are in Europe. SuCs are more evenly distributed, but you have more CCS high power places, and even more stalls. So, if you can live with an occasional 50kW charger CCS is already in (western) Europe the better option.

Excellent and comprehensive perspective! Although a lifelong Porsche fan and most recently owner of a factory ordered 991 Turbo S that I tracked three weeks after delivery and a 2016 Panamera GTS, the Taycan would be the most satisfying to drive, but way too much money for a desirable version. The MS brakes just do not measure up, altholugh the carbon ceramic option should solve that problem for more than twice what Porsdche charges for its PCCB's. EQS is intriguing and worth caereful consideration. At this point the Lucid Air Touring GT offers a very attractive alternative at a price well below the Taycan GTS with the usual options. No, the Lucid may not deliver the driving dynamics or design excitment of the Taycan, but not that far from them. And, since I do not intend to track a sedan, it is academic whether the Taycan is more fun to drive on public roads than a Lucid Air Touring GT. All that aside, charging acdcessibility and time will be, as noted, major considerations.

For me, that is unacceptable. So all the other cars other than Tesla is out of the question...Above all else, the charging infrastructure has to work every time flawlessly. Also as you mention it's "slow" since you get only 380hp (yes 475 hp in launch mode does not count since launch mode is just a gimmick).
