BETHPAGE, N.Y. - Town officials called a press briefing at Bethpage Community Park on Wednesday in response to 6 barrels of chemicals being found buried in a "coffin-like vault" near the skate park.
During a press briefing on Wednesday morning, Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino addressed the discovery of six barrels containing chemicals after a press release was sent out by Northrop Grumman on Tuesday evening.
In the press release, Northrop Grumman officials report that while conducting environmental remediation under the supervision of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, they uncovered the buried drums.
Those 55-gallon barrels filled with chemicals were found buried in a concrete "coffin-like vault" beneath the former Northrop Grumman chemical dumping ground, which is now part of the town's Bethpage Community Park on Stewart Avenue.
