5 Habits I Ditched to Grow Waist-Length Natural Hair!
Hey everyone, welcome back to my channel!
Today's video is all about what I stopped doing to achieve waist-length natural hair. These changes may surprise you, but they made a huge difference in my hair growth journey!
1. Frequent Styling:
I used to change my hairstyle every week, which meant a lot of manipulation and breakage. Instead, I embraced long-term protective styles like braids and twists for 3-12 weeks at a time. This kept my ends tucked away and minimized breakage.
2. Relying on Salons:
I used to get my hair styled every 6 weeks, but I realized I wasn't fully in control of my hair health. So, I learned to care for my hair myself through KZitem tutorials, friends, and family. Now I understand my hair's needs and can take better care of it.
3. Excessive Trimming:
I used to be a "scissor-happy" natural, constantly trimming my ends for neatness. But this cut away all my progress! Now, I trim on a schedule (max 4 times a year) and only when my ends truly need it.
4. Heat Damage:
Heat styling can be tempting, but it caused a lot of damage to my hair. I ditched the heat and found alternative ways to see my hair's length, like roller sets. If I do use heat, it's on a low setting with a heat protectant.
5. Brushing & Combing:
Combs and brushes aren't all bad, but using the wrong ones can cause breakage. For detangling after protective styles, I use a wide-tooth comb. I rarely use brushes, and if I do, it's the soft side on a low setting.
Bonus Tip: Finger Detangling!
This takes time, but finger detangling minimizes breakage. It also helps you learn your hair's texture and feel for any problem areas. I have finger detangling tutorials on my channel, so check those out!
Washing for Growth?
I used to wash my hair weekly, but I found frequent washing could be drying. Now, I wash every 10 days (midpoint) to keep my scalp clean without stripping my hair's natural oils.
Remember: This is my journey! The key is to take ownership of your hair, be patient, and find a consistent routine that works for you. I have tons of videos on routine building for beginners, so check out my playlists!
