What does it take to become a Registered Nurse?
To become a registered nurse, a university degree is required. The main responsibilities of a Registered Nurse range from direct patient care through to coordination of care delivery, health promotion, management, research and education. Registered nursing gives you the opportunity to work in a variety of dynamic areas including emergency, cardiology, community, mental health, surgery and intensive care, just to name a few.
Nurses and midwives can work in a number of settings including hospitals, community centres, prisons, defence forces, people’s homes and schools. They can also work in different locations, from metropolitan and regional WA to interstate and overseas.
As well as being in demand locally, the skills you learn are globally recognised, allowing you to work almost anywhere in the world. A huge amount of satisfaction and respect comes from making a difference in people’s lives. From working with infants to the elderly, it’s truly a rewarding experience.
Jacob gives us an insight into a typical day of a registered nurse, what types of nursing you can get into and the characteristics and steps to take to become a nurse.
