Anthony, are you a parent? my guess is no... being able to give advice even good advice doesn't make a good parent. the one thing I have learned about being a parent that I wasn't prepared for, which I think no one is, is patience. children test your patience in every aspect, and they strain the bond you have with the other parent. The thing I personally think is key to being a good parent is providing the child with the ability to think and reason and decide for themselves.

robert edmond did you not have any younger siblings? Because it’s very easy to find out that children test your patience:) But you do have a good point about advice, children don’t care about your advice until at least tenish

When I turned 18, like almost exactly, I started having that need to have kids. I always wanted to be a mom, but I always planned on adopting because the whole 9 months + labor thing was a big ol' nope for me. But for two years now everytime I see a baby my mind and heart scream that I need to have one of those asap. It's so strange.

I feel a lot more emotionally stable since coming off the pill 4 months ago. My periods used to be quite unpredictable before I started the pill when I was 17, but that was because I'd only had them for about a year at that point. Now I can see my body settling into a cycle, it's quite nice! My system is still working out the kinks, but I feel a lot more in touch with my body in general. I'm enjoying having my period!

+Danyel VT Broody means an animal or woman is feeling quite maternal, that she craves a family. I think it comes from when people talk about chickens and hens and they say "the hen's been broody recently," meaning she's been sitting on a clutch of eggs for a while and it trying to incubate them, and when they say "a hen and her brood," meaning her chicks. Idk if that helps or if that was unnecessarily longwinded and confusing.

This video has literally come at the most opportune time! I have just stopped the pill, had my last 'fake' period almost a month ago now, will be interesting to see what happens from now on! I feel like I have not been able to lose weight since starting the pill when I was 16 due to heavy periods, so I have just decided during this single time of my life, I would stop and see if the hormones contributed to my weight. Looking forward to more videos :)

if you get overly emotional, down or irritated up to a week before your period, you can count that as pms. It's different for everyone how much they experience pms, but for me I always know that a few days before my period i turn into this grumpy, overly-sensitive creature and i can start yelling or crying at any moment of the day. I think coworkers and family members have noticed that and i hate how unfeminist it is to act differently just because of your period but i can't help it!! It's there, it happens, i am a woman and this is real. And in the end, i'm the one who has to deal with it. ps. tips for dealing better with pms: exercise, get all those emotions out at the gym. during the day try to do tasks you know you can get done and treat yourself to something nice :)

It's so funny you should mention being broody. We are roughly the same age, and recently I switched my birth control pill to a different brand and a different scheme (I'm actually kind of doing the reverse and now taking my pill with no placebos so I am essentially stopping my period) and the first thing I've noticed is that I've been so broody. Granted, it could be that I'm in a decently new relationship that is very stable and I love my boyfriend, or it could be that my best friend just had a baby, or it could be the age, but I've also always been the kind of person that was like "nah I don't want kids until I'm much older if at all" and all of a sudden I have major baby fever. I even had my first ever dream of being pregnant and it freaked me out. Glad I'm not alone right now with this one.

It just has gotten 10x worse now that I creeping closer to 27 and still don't have a kid or even the prospect of a relationship but hey maybe my desire for kids got bigger when I got off the pill almost two years ago now. My biggest difference is that I still have no period actually less of one then when I was on the pill, I have to take meds to make them come every three months.

I came off my pill about 4/5 months ago, but being on the combi pill I got a period every 4 weeks like clockwork. I've been using Clue since then and found that my natural cycle has settled into roughly 35 days (I was pretty regular pre-pill). I had achy boobs on the pill but not off, and so far my teenage cramps haven't come back to torture me. Yet... Broodiness level = moderate/high (age 26). Also had always thought I would be a mum before I reached 30.

The whole arithmetic surrounding if I meet someone now I could move in with them then and we'd be together this long before kids started playing on my mind when I was around 17. At that point I wanted to have a baby before 30 (for risk factor reasons) and so it was in my head I wanted 10 years of relationship before a kid. I'm nearly 22 now and I've been in the same relationship for 3 years and that I even might be with my boyfriend for 10 whole years before I'm 30 scares me. It's funny. I love him to bits and we have a really good, communicative relationship but my head says we met when we were too young for it to work out (even though it does for lots of people).

Most bio-females have their fertility top when they're about 20-25 years old. (The fertility goes up much faster than it goes down, that's why the fertility top is in the 20s and not later in life.) Maybe that's what you're feeling?

I feel a bit odd about saying this to you, because I don't want to panic you or say this is definitely the case, but some of the things you are saying (like the weight) happened to me when I came off the pill. I ended up having a hormone test and then a pelvic ultrasound and it transpired that I had PCOS. While I wholeheartedly subscribe to you not obsessively monitoring the weight, if things continue the next time you go to the doc it might be worth looking into. Good luck!

That's weird because I'm on the pills and I experience the same things as you do : the PMS, the cramps, the boobs that hurt. My cycle is obviously as regular as a clock, but otherwise it's the same... I'm not sure as to when I will come off it but I'll keep you updated! :)

Really interesting stuff! Great series!! Just thought you might be interested to know that my boobs have shrunk a LOT gradually over the last few years and I am pretty sure it is because I switched to a mostly plantbased diet about 3 years ago and then gradually went fully plantbased. At one point I got all the way up to a 32FF so had super expensive and awkward bra searches like you. But now that I don't have all tbe animal growth hormones in me anymore I am around a 32D and can buy bras almost anywhere. I have also lost weight overall but to me the most noticable place is my boobs. So if it is specifically your boobs you want to lose weight from, it may be worth experimenting with a more plantbased diet? Just sharing my experience xxxxxx

Out of interest - but feel free to ignore if you feel this is too personal a question - do you think there's been any change in the type of people you're attracted to? Or, people you were attracted to and no longer are, and vice-versa? Asking mainly due to interaction of the pill with how we 'smell' HLA in others. Not sure how much science backs it up, just curious really!

(6:30) "I don't know if its a coming-off-the-pill thing, or if I've just gotten to that age..." Either way, it IS hormones. The biological imperative is nothing to trifle with. When I was pregnant with my first child, I knew that I was being manipulated when I realized that I was hopelessly, head-over-heels in love with my baby, which I "knew" was silly, but I couldn't help but "feel" that way. It wasn't unpleasant at all, but it wasn't rational either.

I'm also coming off the pill since november now and I also gained some weight. Spent my first period trying out a period cup and I am pretty convinced. Check out ItsJustKelli - she is trying alternative period products on her channel and she's refreshingly honest about everything (Might not be everyone's cup of tea). Watching her videos felt a bit weird at first but it took away my doubts about using the cup. I was on a minipill for 5ish years and did not have my period at all due to the hormons. I am really excited about the whole having my period again - thing. Second day of my period was really painful - like your boobs are paying you back, I thought my uterus was giving me revenge for all those hormons. Luckily my boss is really cool and she introduced a monthly period day where we can work from home on the painful day - in bed with a hot water bottle and comfy clothes. I really like your Hormone Diaries and will continue watching. Best from Hamburg :)

Logan Everything in our experience has a neurochemical basis because that drives perception. Everything is chemical. That doesn't mean it isn't real or it doesn't matter.. I'm not sure, I don't have Hannah's child-desire. I like kids, but the world is shitty, and I've seen friends lose their kids, and I don't want to overpopulate the globe, and I don't want to be a slave, and I don't need a quarter million of expenses....

I hit the baby stage from age 21-23 and it usually involved me crying over diaper commercials, having dreams of my babies being stolen from me, and overwhelmingly being drawn to cute babies in the grocery store. I'm now 28, clean and sober, and have little desire to be around children. Hormones are freakin weiiiiirrrd. Edit: I also remember when I was in my 'i want a baby stage' that the sound of one crying would cause me to panic??? like, _oh my god, there's a baby in need! I must find them!_ And now it's just like, _Well that's annoying._ Also: the breast pain can sometimes be linked to coffee/chocolate/caffeine intake. That might just be in my family, but I've had to cut down on those because my breasts would ache to the point of tears. I also found if I ate dark chocolate my mood swings would be insane when I was PMSing.

when you say 28 clean and sober, you mean of hormonal contraception right? nothing more sinister.....? also: if you consume much caffeine/choco, try drinking half a glass of water before it? I'm curious to see if it makes you feel different :)

I love that you didn't go into the numbers when discussing weight! I agree it's super unhealthy to have the kind of mindset where the numbers matter rather than how you feel in your body and how healthy you are ❤

Alex Thompson theres nothing wrong with being an introvert...as that just means you get your energy from being on your own...but if you mean being more social/less reserved then great for you 😉 You can be a social introvert or a socially anxious extrovert!

For guys this thing (baby, family, etc) comes at around the age of 28-30 (where I am at now). Suddenly you are transformed and view caring for a family or kids as something you want to do. For us, when we are younger, showing off our drinking skills, other crude stuff is how we want to express ourselves. But when we hit that age, we now want to show off our abilities by taking care of people, be it family, wife, partner, love interest, kids, what have you.It makes us feel manly when women allow us to do stuff for them (feminists take note). So its interesting to see how you transition from being a girl to a woman. I think having these conversations is one great thing about the internet, it has allowed people to talk about things which they otherwise would not. cheers.

Two words Hannah, - completely honest. Thats what makes this series so worthy of note. In my opinion they should be compulsory viewing for all ten and eleven year olds, both girls and boys to prepare them for the physical and emotional changes to come, and to encourage them to speak openly to their peers and elders.

The week before my period I'm a complete emotional mess! I just can't stop crying and feel so down. I did a similar thing to you and watched old videos of me and my ex together, I started uncontrollably crying. Why do we torture ourselves?!

Your videos are actually so amazing. I wish I'd discovered them when I was 13 (I'm now 18) but I know that if I ever have a daughter I want to show her your videos when she's old enough. It's so nice to normalise a woman's natural bodily 'mechanics' the changes that happen make you think you're dying when you're like 12 and no one has really spoke to you about anything. And with the broody thing I'm like you, broody since I was so young I loved to be around babies. Still haven't gotten out of that phase so in September I'm becoming a Nanny! (Looking after other people's babies so I don't have to have my own just yet) ;)

when i came off the pill, my taste in men changed. i am suddenly attracted to gigantic men with gigantic muscles and facial hair. after a year and a half, my cycle is down to about 5 weeks. it's pretty consistent finally so i'm thrilled. i got a fitbit for christmas and i recently noticed that my resting heartrate drop when i'm ovulating. so that's good to know! i also don't like chocolate but about 3 days before i get my period, i crave chocolate like CRAZY. my boobs also swell and ITCH oh my god they get so itchy. on the pill, i always felt nauseated and dizzy when i got hungry. since coming off, that's stopped, except for the week before i get my period.

i have the worst body confidence, I weigh myself around four times a day and I obsess over it and honestly don't buy a scale, it has made my life toxic but I can't really stop either.

awesomeabnormality I had the same but honestly just stop, there's no other way. Just trash your scale. And never ever touch one again, ask doctors to not tell you your weight, little things but with time you will forget that those numbers are existing, 6 years ago for me, but I still can't hear my weight. I am very relieved.. Very thankful too that Hannah didnt talk about numbers. VERY THANKFUL ❤

@MrNicoJac it's mostly just the inner voice part of it which I suppose is how I've managed to ignore the problem

Hannah, I love watching your videos! You're always so informative but like relatable at the same time. I've actually just got on the pill about 6 months ago now but I love this series. Thanks for making awesome vids and I wish you the most success--I was surprised you didn't already have a mill subs haha.

Thank you so much for this video (and the rest of the series)! As someone pretty young just starting the pill, it's been really reassuring for me to hear someone talking so openly about their experience. Please keep making them!
