A big fan of Cuckoo Clocks, so it was lovely to see your new one. I have one, and it featured in my 2022 Christmas Special - A Melchester Carol - when the clock struck to announce the arrival of the three spirits of railways past, present and future, who had come to haunt the fat Controller!

Wow, what a find! Made me smile seeing how pleased you were in the video with it! They are fascinating contraptions, I had a very simple one when I was a kid and I've no idea where it is now - I didn't really look after it as well as I should have, and this reminded me of it. Hope it gives you many years of reliable timekeeping and cuckooing! 😂

Something you obviously missed with the clock - the chains. Before quartz and battery power was invented, these clocks (Black Forest) were gravity-powered, with the chains and pine cones! The owner pulled on the 'free' end of the chains, to draw the weight - pine cone - to the top, then gravity slowly pulled them down again, running the mechanism. One of the chains drove the clock, and the other the cuckoo. As an aside, my family home used to have one made from real wood, as a hand-me-down from my father's parents, wo got it from one of their parents. Ours had two (pot/porcelain) children on swings that were the pendulum/regulator, and could be adjusted up and down on their seats on a screw thread. The cuckoo sound was operated by tiny bellows inside driven by cams. It succumbed to age, and my Dad 'repaired' it - in his kack-handed way - it worked for a while after, but it had become a coo-cuck clock, because he'd got the little bellows mechanisms back to front, inside! Regrettably, Mother consigned it to the bin on one of her redecorating sessions.

To be fair, I didn’t miss the chains - I did mention them - I just didn’t say what they were for on a traditional clock (this one is battery powered). The one you had sounds very fancy and would have been quite the heirloom.
