But Cow Killer and cicada killer HURT! It's all a necessary part of an ecosystem though. Wasks and yellow jackets eat other insects, yellow jackets make burrows, that can then be occupied by other wildlife when the colony eventualky dies or moves.... I don't worry about them, they rarely worry about me.

HMF in sucrose syrup is made by either high heat or extended time at temperature. Nobody makes 2:1 syrup with cold water, you'll be mixing all day to get it into solution. Warm or hot water to make syrup for bees is fine, just don't boil it or leave it on heat. Do consider when you feed though. If it is during a nectar flow when supers are on, you are probably diluting real flower honey with your sugar syrup, unbeknownst to the beekeeper.

as someone that works at a garden center outside among all the bugs all day, wasps are very chill unless you directly mess with their nest, and paper wasps (the kind we usually associate with wasps) tend to keep theirs in higher hard to reach easy to see places, building out of the spot they chosen with a visible paper nest the real problem child is the yellowjacket, because they are extremely defensive and built their nests internally, like under ground or inside dead logs. since the structure is internal and not easily visible, its easy to step on and unintentionally threaten yellowjackets. if you just see one little yellowjacket buzzing around you, either slowly walk away and let it lose interest, or if youre feeling brave, just let it land on you (if you arent deathly allergic or anything, just in case lol). its most likely following because something about you smells good, possibly your sweat, and should lose interest quickly. of course, just like people, some individual critters are just jerks and might get you for no reason that you can fathom 😂 but those individuals are pretty rare and imo, not worth killing the ones you see over. ive worked at this garden center for 2 years around tons of them (including a cool bald faced hornet once) and not been stung yet. and thats as someone that has to habitually stick my hands into the plants to prune and tidy them 😂

The sounds, the giant wasp, the sheer amount of bees in your hand...this is literally everything I have nightmares about. This is why I struggle to be outside in the summer. What kind of witchcraft...

Haha I promise unless you have honey on your hands they will not do this. Be careful of drinking sweet drinks though if you leave them out! I have gotten stung in my mouth that way

much in the same way its not scary to climb a mountain that isnt shaking the earth below you, as long as you remain calm bees are very very sweet and curious ♡ even wasps can be sweet as long as they know you arent a threat!

My favorites are the wasps 😅 They come for fruit and honey and are well behaved and get along with everyone. Except baldfaced hornets because they may be sweethearts but they are not bright and startle easily. Then the honeybees show up like obnoxiously loud frat boys and scare all the other insects away.

I have a rule: Bees, hornets & wasps get a nice watering dish in the summer... but if a wasp bites me, I find their hive and exterminate them. Their bites leave permanent scars.

😂😂😂😂 I thought I recognized that creature on your thumb as a wasp. I also thought it might be the queen. But right after I thought that, you confirmed it's a wasp. I find it hilarious that it kinda mixed in with the bees and landed on you! 😂😂 Food is universal and will attract those with good intentions and those with less than good intentions (the wasp).

I love bees: when I garden with my auntie, she has heather bushes that run along an entire half of her house in front and it is almost always covered in a blanket of bees. When I am pulling the weeds and grass that are entangled in the heather bushes I am sticking my hand into a thick crowd of bees and I have never once been stung; they are such kind and patient creatures. As crazy as it may make me seem, I find myself talking to them, mostly politely apologizing for interrupting their work… I’m fully aware that human speech is very likely not something they recognize or comprehend, but my articulation helps me reinforce the respect and reverence I have for the crucial part they play in nature.

I’ve rescued wasps and bees drowning in water and they never sting me. In fact, the bees seem to recognize me and hang out with me little bit as a way of saying thanks. It’s so rewarding to to see them fly off, able to go in with their lives. My beevive keychain is also a massive help, I’ve used it on butterflies, bees, wasps, etc. to help them regain some energy after struggling in the water
