I was home schooled and it was probably the best thing about my childhood. Because I was home schooled we could take our school anywhere and my family would frequently travel for months at a time. We would go skiing in Canada in the winter or go on cross country trips during the summer. Home schooling made it so I could have a simply incredible childhood. Totally would do it with my kids

I was homeschooled with my older brother until I was in 10th grade! My mom did the same thing as yours, she just put us in the same grade and then made me repeat the 9th grade at home before she sent me to public school. I also have extremely fond memories of it. My experiences were similar to yours, if we worked efficiently we got our work done pretty quick and then had the rest of the day for hobbies. I played the piano too, did soccer and was oddly obsessed with making little creatures out of clay for years haha. We were also apart of a homeschooling group. There were about 30 families in it and once a month we went on field trips together, had "student speaking days" (basically just fun creative reports on random subjects so we were used to talking in front of groups), holiday parties etc. I think that really helped with our social awkwardness because we were around other kids frequently. Best of both worlds! I'm a teacher now in the public school system, I love my job & students so much but I feel sort of bad for them and the experience they're getting!

Yay thanks for sharing your story!!! I was homeschooled & unschooled in my childhood as well. I never attended a Public School but went to Private School for preschool - 2nd Grade. My Mom started homeschooling me when I started 3rd Grade, because our Private School was expensive & she was unhappy with my education there. I am dyslexic & was not getting the help I desperately needed there. Once I became older I met a friend who was Unschooled. I explain Unschool as the hipster version of Homeschool where you specialize only in the subjects you want to learn, often focusing on art/music. In my case I had a passion for art & dabbled in all forms of fine art in my childhood & began teaching myself digital art at age 11. By the time I was 16 I started part time at my local community college to learn more Design & Animation. I went fulltime there there at age 17. I received a two year college degree in Multimedia at age 19 without a highschool diploma. I was then able to transfer to an Art College with my credits from my first degree & received my bachelors in Motion Design. I have been working in the Design & Animation industry for nearly six years now! I am grateful & proud to have figured out what kind of career I wanted at a young age & succeed without a typical path.

I was homeschooled almost 100% (brief stint in Montessori kindergarten; but even did online university) and would not change it for the world. I became a single mother at barely 21 years old and I’m still completely determined to find a way to stay home and homeschool my now 2.5yr-old daughter. It was the best thing my parents could have done for me and it is the best thing I can give to my daughter.

I know my 8 year old would be the child always in trouble for not sitting still or being too loud, but he's brilliant and just flourishing at home! I am able to teach to the way he learns. It has a bad stigma and I never would of thought i'd be a homeschooling mom but now I wouldn't have it any other way!

I was homeschooled from 3rd to 12th grade, and even went to the local community college when I was 16. I loved it and gained so much experience. The only thing was that some people had very negative opinions about our family being homeschooled and would say things like "you are not getting the right social skills" or "you need to be with people your own age".

Thank you for talking about this! I was homeschooled my entire life and it gave me the chance to finish school a year early and get my first year of college done as well. I've worked for 4 years as a homeschool teacher (assisting homeschool mothers by teaching and helping pick curriculum) and I absolutely plan on homeschooling my own children. I was brought up with church and co-op's so I never dealt with being "unsocialized" or any of the other accusations against homeschooling and I plan on doing the same thing with my own kids someday.

It’s great to hear that u had a happy childhood. The first few years of your life sound amazing. With 3 siblings it’s not surprising that you didn’t always need close friends. Its also great to hear that there are other girls out there who are quite shy too. It’s weird. I was home schooled for university. That sounds so weird right? Basically I had a traumatic experience when I was 18 shortly before uni started, so my anxiety was super high. Then on my 1st day of entering a conventional British uni building I made the mistake of approaching a girl who said ‘I admit, I’m a bully! I don’t wanna share halls with people I don’t like.’ The uni building was huge and lonely and I ran home too upset, but not exactly scared, to go back. It was too much for me after all I’d been through. Soon after I enrolled with the Open University near my parents house in England. I did English Literature, so a lot of my work would have been home based writing essays anyway. My computer at home was next to my dads computer (he was working from home as an engineer), and I used to type and research my essays in the morning next to him. As long as I phoned and texted old school friends regularly, it wasn’t bad at all. And I got to see more of my parents. After years of leaving for school in the morning and spending the day out there it was a refreshing change. And I have no university debts!

Fantastic. I was homeschooled k-12. My siblings and I were always given the option to go to public school, but I was the only one that stuck with it all the way through (because I loved it!!) I CANT comprehend what it would be like to be a kid stuck in school for 8 hours a day. That would've killed me and my desire to learn. Anyway, props to the Iowa girls ✌️ I feel like our lives and work parallel in a lot of ways. I might have to meet you someday because of that. 😊

Homeschooled K-12! I loved it; my mom was so driven and firm but also made it all great, and contrary to popular belief of homeschooling, I was not allowed to "attend" school in my pajamas, and I got a great education. I was given the chance to go to public school for high school, but refused. I had a brain injury when I was 13 and would've never made it in public school otherwise. If I ever had kids they would for sure be homeschooled.

I love this! I was homeschooled through the end of fourth grade and for most of eighth grade (due to a move which got more and more delayed). I loved being homeschooled; like you said, a few hours a day and then all the time in the world for whatever you want. We went on field trips, to bakeries and got to bake, to libraries, to museums, to zoos and parks. National landmarks and cities far out of town while on vacation or visiting family. Everything became a lesson and fun all at once. I also loved that how long my schoolwork took was up to me! This is part of why I hate a job with idle time; I want to be working or on break, not waiting in between or coming up with tasks to fill my hours required for the week. I could very easily do a weeks worth of work in two days and have a five day weekend on an average week and be completely on top of everything and efficient because of the time management skills homeschooling taught me. For middle school I was in a private Catholic school but after the move I spent my high school years at a public school due to location. However, my teachers soon learned I was eager to finish their work in class so that I could work on homework or projects or reading from another class during the waiting time that inevitably occurred. If I didn't have other work to be done, I always had a book or three with me(I need to be busy unless my time is completely my own!) I will definitely want to homeschool my future children because of all the amazing skills and focused teaching this affords a child. 🙋🏻

I have been homeschooled for all of my schooling, I am now a junior in high school! I have loved it! Just like you said it gives me opportunities to explore my other interests! And I also could never take back the time that I have spent with my mom, because of the relationship I cherish with her. The one thing that has prevented me from becoming socially awkward is I attended church activities and youth group on the regular. That DEFINATLY gave me the social interaction that I needed. But if your church doesn't have that or if your not religious then you could join clubs and sports. I just know that's how I did it. It's so fun to see other people have good experiences with homeschooling, because it's so under rated. 😀😀😀

I was never homeschooled but my fiance was. We haven't decided yet if we want to homeschool our own children or not but I think I am leaning more towards homeschooling them for the primary grades and putting them into public school at grade 4 or 5. What kids learn in primary school can easily be taught in MUCH less time at home and it gives them so much time to explore other interests, PLAY, and learn through many other ways! The only thing keeping me from homeschooling my future kids for longer is that I love working and don't think I would want to be a stay-at-home mom forever.. but who knows where life will take me!!

Great video! I homeschool my kids. I was not homeschooled. I went to daycare, Catholic school and public school. The funny thing is that despite all of those social interactions I was and still am socially awkward. I don't think it has anything to do with homeschooling children since I've seen some very confident, young, homeschooled youtubers who talk about it. I agree with the fidgeting. My kids do that and I let them be. Kids have a lot of energy and sometimes need to release. That's just being a kid. Not something that's a problem.

I think that's what is best for lots of kids and wish homeschooling could be more readily available for lots of kids :) Also, I think a ton of people are socially awkward during their early years, so no worries! It took me becoming a volunteer coordinator (and having to talk to 80+ people per day) to finally relax and be able to open up around strangers. You realize that everyone is so similar and we all just want to connect a little :) Great video, thanks for sharing!

I was homeschooled for a majority of my school "career" and college was my first experience of "real" school - and it sucked. I ended up loving college in the end, but I missed my homeschool years. I agree that it definitely was a nurturing creative environment! If (BIG IF) I end up having kids, I would probably end up homeschooling them as well. There are way too many positives that come from it than form a standard school.

Thanks for your story. Love your channel. I am considering homeschooling my son when he comes of age. His name is Bronius and he is 2 in May. He was a prem baby. And he had a vaccine injury an anaphylaxis reaction. Unfortunately i was uneducated at the time in pharmaceutical medicine. I feel so grateful i came across this. I am a early years childhood educator. (Childcare worker) so i have seen what children and parents have to go thru. Emotionally mentally and physically. And i agree with you completely. I am curious how on your thoughts if only having one child... if that envioment is suitable socially. I am concerned as i currently do not plan on having children again yet ( but you never know our plans may change) im curious if you have any suggestions on homeschooling a child without any current siblings. Only alternative option i can think of is involving my son in weekly social sport or group hobby activities to encourage social development. Do you feel it would of still been beneficial if you had been an only child? Thanks for taking time to read my comment. Eve

Jasmine E, every place is different, but I live in the east coast of the U.S.A. And I had to look up the offfice of homeschooling and send them the required forms I filled out to let them know I'm choosing to homeschool my kids. You fill out a quarterly report and let them know what you're teaching them. You can choose any grade-level appropriate work book from any store in the subjects your child is supposed to be learning. At least that's how it works here. You can google what you need to homeschool in your particular area so that you get the most accurate information. There's also great homeschool websites that are filled with information
