I agree with you on this one. And by the way, I had Linear Algebra at university, and it can be utterly dry. One really must have extra motivation. Also: With languages the better way to learn is via massive comprehensible input rather than by a grammar approach. I have experienced this first hand. Academia has it mostly wrong there. Once you have had a lot of new input in a target language, only then do grammar explanations add value and make sense. Toodles and thanks for the video.

Lol, and I thought, my approach was controversial. It's literally the opposite of yours! :D You, and some other people I've seen on KZitem, say that we need to, basically, ignore the theory and start practicing as fast as possible to avoid the feeling of "this is not worth it". Well, for me it's the opposite. It couldn't force myself to start coding for months because I was too afraid I would do it "wrong"... I had a great fear of coding. This probably appeared back when I was 15 or 16, and was the worst student in the computer science class at my high school. When I had to look at the code, I would sometimes feel like vomiting, lol. So, what was my solution? Theory. Lots and lots of theory. I started watching KZitem videos and CS50 Harvard Courses (CS50x, CS50w, CS50b), watching for at least 30 minutes a day for a month or two, on top of reading some books and listening to audiobooks on my way to the university or to the grocery. After that, I no longer felt disgusted by code. In fact, I fell in love with it. But the fear was still there... So how did I get rid of it? Well, I just started typing code... A lot... And no, I wasn't creating anything, I was just literally typing the code from books and articled into my code editor while listening to music (this also helped be improve my touch typing) ... And it kinda worked! I learnt to code! 7 months after the start of my journey, I am now hoping to get a job at a company. I feel very confident during the coding interviews in the talking part, although I still struggle a lot with the written assignments, but in any case, I am quite confident that I can soon find a job. And even if not, well, I also applied for a master's degree in Software Engineering, so obtaining an unpaid traineeship will be a piece of cake if I will not be able to find a paid position. P.S. Oh, and by the way, my bachelor's is in law, and my first master's is MBA. And the Software Engineering master's I am currently in would cost me only about 800 dollars a year. This is because I am studying in Russia, and higher education here is pretty cheap, even though a Software Engineering degree from Russia is valued around the world (unlike my law degree, which is literally a useless piece of paper at this point, lol).

It’s just like when i first encountered Object Oriented Programming. I understood the examples alright, like how a class is a blueprint, like an Animal class, which can spawn different animal objects, like cat and dog. But my question remained: why? Why do we need to do things this way? Especially when in the beginning all I wrote were small scripts that were mostly done procedurally, I just didn’t see when and how I’ll be implementing this paradigm. But then I started learning how to make games, and I almost instantly saw why: I simply NEED to use objects, with each of them holding their own states, own methods, so that when something happens to object A, object B wouldnt be affected, things like that. As to HOW this should be implemented well, i guess this is a life long struggle, but at least now i know why I need to take on such struggle.

Yeah I hated those courses precisely because they have a lot of theory whose relevance I didn’t understand at the time. Honestly my suggestion if you are struggling with them is to pause it and come back to it after you have been coding a lot more. As for me, atm I just finished the “Core Theory” section, right now I will start the “from Nand to Tetris” courses and also I am taking a detour into AI & ML.

Practical applications demands concrete structures, which after being developed, will be taught as theory. For example, in the 1960s, computer science wasn't even a subject/field. But, after complex things like OSes and languages where made, people realized the need for programming paradigms, data structures etc which led to the development of the theory. Tldr, practical applications always come first before the theory is made.

Great video. For me it makes sense to skip around between practice and theory, adding complexity as we go. Meaning - learn what a hammer does, then go hammer a nail. Then realize that the same hammer can't be used on all materials - go learn about other types of hammers. At some point you'll realize you need a screwdriver etc. But you need the fundamental understanding of what a hammer does before this process can begin.

@@gangogango6687 same. I have that fear and I didn't perform well in linear algebra, statistics and especially Calc 2 in which I almost failed. But I think that is just part of learning. I'm still trying my best. I'm in my 3rd semester rn and it's kinda like how it works. You start off slow paced but overtime your brain actually learns and operates faster and your understand things better. It's not instant but your will start learning thing eventually and even perform well. The pressure of college is a big contributing factor in performing better and learning things paired with the drive to do better and believing you can do better. I've seen that if I think I'm dumb and then learn things, I learn then better instead. Just consider that you don't know much about the topic and then you will learn better. Hopefully it works.
