Which to a KZitem reviewer means “oh, you must be some elderly person who wants an iPad for looking up your recipes, what you want is the cheapest iPad they sell, it’s enough for you.” When in reality, people do want the nicer things, even if maybe they don’t fully utilize it. KZitem reviewers tend to be too extreme. Either you’re a super tech person pumping out videos like them, or someone who barely understands tech and just needs the cheapest thing to be satisfied. People think that the only ‘real’ computer is the one where you get to tinker with the file system and install all those professional programs and development tools, without realising that nowadays, that’s a very niche market. Most users just want their computer to be able to run a web browser and a few apps. Even the content creators can very easily do all their work on an iPad. Only people who really need a full MacOS would be programmers. On an iPad you can make art (in some cases even more easily than on Mac), you can make music (logic pro is not like on Mac but it is still very capable), you can edit videos, you can write and read and consume all kinds of content (also more conveniently). But to kinda repeat the idea of listing my previous ‚responder‘, let‘s list: A) you still need to have the mac handy. If your really mobile, you don‘t have it. And I found it to not work at all over VPN. B) shortcuts do not work as expected. I had to adjust quite some to make it work for me and it still lacks something. C) integration on the mac, that one still has to have being active in the background on it (and the mac ideally constantly running), I am annoyed at the server app (on the mac) not being able to hide (always in the foreground when not using the Luna-app), either as a service, without foreground dominance, without appearing in the app switcher (and honestly much more, but that applies more to people like me using it professionally and with more than one mac), it is an annoying piece of SW. While you are right that it is possibly the best option to get exactly whats asked (having macOS „available“ on the iPad), it is not quite like a mac really plus it never could replace another remote control environment (I am using jump desktop), to work in all that other cases (with copy-paste, windows support, stored password support +++). I’ve gotten used to using apps like Paste but when I’m doing cutting and copying of different media types at once (images, text, formatted text) I’m forced to remote into my studio in the office to get the job done in the productive way I am used to. Such a shame.

I’ve come to accept that the iPad is nothing more than a great companion device to my iPhone and Mac. It’s a great on-the-go device when you don’t wanna spend over $1000 on a MacBook. With this being the case, I used to be an iPad Pro user but now that the iPad Pro is $1000, This year I went with the iPad Air for the first time ever because I just can’t justify spending $1000 on a companion device. And truth be told after about three days. I don’t even notice that I’m missing promotion. Honestly, there’s not really anything that I’m missing from the pro which makes me wonder why I spent so much money all these years should’ve just gone with the air. Until Apple decides to make the iPad more than just a companion device, there’s really no reason to justify the price of the iPad Pro.

I could have gone for a drawing tablet or android tablet, but for me, I tried a bunch of them and my experience on the iPad Air 11" was just the most comfortable and the easiest for me to get into and produce art with. Its just that simple for me.

For some of us it’s not how much the iPad can do but how well it can do it: iPad Pro 12.9 and Apple Pencil combined with the app Concepts is the best way to sketch hands down. My previous tool for this was reMarkable 2 and it paled in comparison. But funnily, that is exclusively what I use the iPad Pro for. (I bought a year old model when I got it and I don’t expect to update it for a looong time.)

I have the m1 ipad air and I don't have a computer at all and most of my work can be done on the ipad. I have a keyboard and a mouse that I use to edit videos and write books and scripts. While it is like 10-20 percent less efficient to edit on the ipad when compared to the laptop but it mire than makes up for it by being more fun (and cheaper). The only reason I can see someone springing up for the ipad pro is for the screen. Ipad air can do everything it can and comes at nearl half the price (at sales).

i have 2 ipads (one of them is a hand-me-down m1 11"and the other is the new m4 13") and a macbook and i can wholeheartedly say that i use every single device and i love them all. the m4 is for sure my all-round device--from using it for leisurely activities to reading pdfs and especially for sidecar w my macbook--the m1 is mostly for doing school work and notetaking, and the macbook is mostly for anything writing or research intensive. i'm not great at multitasking on one screen, so having a second, large screen that i can have as an extension of my macbook or to use by itself has been a massive help. not everybody uses ipads the way i do, im sure, but i think that my use cases are definitely popular and 100% make the ipad a worthwhile device for me and many others like me

My last iPad was a 6th gen which was so unimpressive I gave it to my wife. My new 11" iPad Pro is _amazing_ - it's got the fastest single core speed (and most consumer workloads are _not_ multithreaded) making this the snappiest device on the planet, sitting inside a pane of glass. It's fast and fluid, and mates well with the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil (though I've really not done anything much with the pencil as I'm not an artist) - but between the iPad and Magic Keyboard it's the fastest device in my stable. I didn't cheap out this time - I got the iPad with Cellular and 512 GB and it's my fast, light, on-the-go compute platform. Pop the whole thing into a sleeve and it's ready to go anywhere - wifi or not. It makes my 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro feel like a boat anchor.

The nicer screen for Lightroom, the seemless touch, the excellent gaming performance on some games, Davinci Resolve, cellular, stage manager, face id, pencil pro. My very powerful laptop sits in it’s case 99% of the time, and I do most of my work on my iPad with only specialized tasks on my PC desktop. I absolutely love the user experience on the new M4 13” with the magic kb and while not that different from my 11” M1 on paper, in reality the devices are really different with the bigger ‘M4 with the function row and escape key being my de facto daily machine, with the smaller one most likely soon going to be sold

There are a few things that I can only do on the MacBooks and stuff like Excel is certainly more comfortable on the MacBook, but other than that stuff the iPad draws me in first. I would like to see it emulate the MacBook, but honestly, I would only use it that way for stuff I can’t do on the IPad…maybe 5%.

I’m one of the people who would always scream every time you complained about the iPad and I get it, you’re grew up using Desktops and eventually laptops so that form factor would always be your natural preference. I’m 27 and I got my first iPad, the iPad 2 in 2012. It was my primary device when I got into Uni at 15 and I grew up using an iPad. I had an apple pencil and took notes in class on my iPad and organized my life around reminders on iPad. I study, reviewed books and write up documents all on my iPad. Today, I’m grown, have my own business and I still run the entire company from my iPad. I mean, I have a MacBook for Mac stuff but 70% of my workflow is still designed around the iPad especially lighter work flows. I can easily go from Designing Content to managing our Back End Database to Posting on our social media platforms while monitoring ads, all of this while a movie is playing in P-in-P. For some of us, the iPad is the computer we grew up on and it serves a majority of our computing needs, the same way my girlfriend grew up doing everything on her phone and that would always be her primary computing device. It’s less about making them do the same thing and more about how to deliver the best experience for different customer expectations

Good video and love that you addressed yourself! 🙌🏽 Nonetheless, we’re not good with two things being true simultaneously. I’m with you. I wish would continue, if not accelerate, their focus on Pro apps for the iPad. I say the above as an EXCLUSIVE IPad Pro M4 user. I haven’t owned a Mac since I gave away my late 2019 16in mid spec to my mom. I had a Alamo maxed out 1TB and it was awesome. Of course, OLED and additional memory was a good option, so I sold my last iPad to my SIL who now has gone full iPad. Portability, cellular connectivity, and familiar apps made more sense. I’m have to do some silly workarounds, however, the form factor and apps make it more versatile as Safari lets me do everything web-based that I heavily rely on. Not intending to buy a Mac unless I get into a position where I must.

In my family I know of 6 people who have ipads, 2 mini's, 2 air and 2 pro's. The mini is pretty obvious why they went for it, size and portability above all else. Air's because they just want a mini with a bigger screen and don't need much else. As for the pro's, my cousin bought it for the simple reason that it has the lidar scanner, allowing her to scan and create 3D models of real world objects, she can scan and edit them on the go, becoming basically her main tool for work; she also uses it for reading, and note taking. She depends on the iPad even more so than her phone. As for me with the pro as well, I'm a photographer and work with GIS, when I'm on a shoot the iPad easily fits in my camera bag, so I take a big bright, dual oled screen everywhere I want without a lot of extra weight or bulk. As for the GIS side, the iPad straight up couldn't process that work load, and I don't want it to, but when I download my several hundred GB processed maps, it's super easy to show on a device I have on hand when I go to meetings, instead of showing it on a small screen, not all meetings are in ideal dim rooms with projectors or a bigger screen.

My iPad Air is my main computer. Most of the time i use it with the pen, but i do have a cheap magic keyboard like bluetooth keyboard. I use my ipad to take and edit notes, write emails, Messaging, Videochat, KZitem, edit family pictures, create collages, edit home videos, check my accounts and so on.. there are a lot of uses. I still have an old MacBook Air 2013 for two tasks, that i can’t do on my ipad yet. Format my Digital camera so card, and configure my internet router. Also when i go my printer to years ago, i had use the mac, to install a firmware update, that the allowed me to set the printer up via ipad. As the mac hadn‘t gotten an updates in ages, i would not use it for important tasks, like online banking, but for the task named before, why not. I‘m definitely not buying a new mac just for the updates. I heard, that the formation issue is solved with iOS 18. We will see. Would i like to see the ipad Os a bit less restricted? Yes! Do I need macOS for this? No! Which restriction would I loosened first? The WebKit one. Let other browser user their own core, this should help with a lot of issues, because the, we could choose with browser we use to run a specific online service. Allow more than one audio input. Like a capture card and a mic. Would it nice to be able to run a few mac apps? Yes, a remember Pixelmator Pro fondly and very user friendly. Can Affinity do the same? Probably. But I‘m not there yet. I find the program confusion. But its the best onetime payment option.

Some of it probably is just their pricing strategy to force you to move up to the next one. After I saw the price on the iPad 10 I said I would just stick with my 9. Now I feel I need to upgrade because I think some of the musician apps I use need more RAM. But when I considered the price and features I need I think I will probably need to get the 256GB Air but then I ran out of space on my 256GB iPad 9 which makes me think maybe I should just go pro and use external storage or get the 11 pro. The price and features put some in a constant battle of which to choose. Those who are set on price and size like I was previously have an easier choice. Also I put insurance on my tech so I wouldn’t by used unless I had it.

Also you can finance an iPad through your mobile carrier. Coming up with MacBook Pro money can be hard for some people. Especially people with bad or no credit. Through the cell phone provider all you have to do is pay the sales tax upfront and than you got 24 months to pay off the device, plus you can insure the device through Asurion. And if something happens to the device after it's discontinued Asurion gives you the new device for the price of the deductible. I got a new M2 iPad Pro after my M1 iPad Pro's touch screen got dead zones. Also you get more bang for your buck with an iPad. $2500 will get you a 16" MacBook Pro with the M3 Pro chip, 512GB SSD, 18GB of RAM, Touch ID, and a mini LED Display; or a 14" iPad Pro with the M3 chip, 2TB SSD, 24GB of RAM, Touch ID and a mini LED Display; or a 13" iPad Pro 7 with the M4 chip, 2TB SSD, 16GB of RAM, Face ID, and an OLED touch display.

I think they have a long term plan to slowly migrate MacOS features to iPad OS while keeping the iOS like look and feel. Think about it eventually they Will basically have a touch based Mac equivalent that only uses USBC like they wanted and they have complete control over what software can and can’t be on the device. They don’t get to make money off you downloading discord on your Mac but discord has to pay to be on iPad. Yeah it’s not there yet but sales havent been effected enough to sweat it so they are just gradually turning it into a full desktop equipment os

I am definitely in team #fadeout, since university is over my iPad Air is just a fancy KZitem/Netflix device or occasionally a secondary monitor. So I would more likely upgrade my M1 MBA to an MBP instead of upgrading my iPad Air to an iPad Pro. So I think the iPad Pro sales are so up vs. iPad Air just because iPad Pro users upgrade and iPad Air users like me tend to not upgrade if university is over.
