Anyone that actually thought RJ was a waste of that 3rd pick and was a bad contract with the knicks, simply doesn’t understand context. Tibs used RJ like 3 an D role player when that was never RJs play style. RJ has always been a slash which you can’t do with randle and Brunson hogging the then randle and Robertson constantly clogging up the paint.

Great episode. As a person who’s followed RJ’s and IQ’s careers closely, it was always absurd to me that you guys thought IQ was, is, will ever be, better than RJ lol. I just knew you didn’t watch much Knicks and was going off IQ’s great 2nd half of the season last year. Then the playoffs came around and IQ wasn’t ready for that level, while RJ excelled and was Knicks 2nd best player. IQ was never on RJ’s level. RJ actually did show his potential to be this player and had good seasons as a young player. His 2nd season he shot 45 FG% and 41 3pt%. His 3rd season he avg 24 ppg after Jan, and was tied with JR for leading scorer on the team. Then he had to adjust to ball dominant Brunson. In the playoffs last season RJ was our 2nd best player and helped us get to GM6 of the Semifinals at still only 22 yrs old. It always baffled me that people didn’t think he could become more consistent as he matured.

This is facts people acting like this dude didn’t drop 46 at 21 years old. Casuals need to understand fit and spacing is a thing. Him and Randle simply can’t be on the same team as they are almost the same player offensively 2 lefty ball dominant bully players Then add another lefty ball dominant player? No way anybody with a brain could think they would all be successful someone had to sacrifice. And personally i always said i would rather rj than Julius cause his mentality and he proved he can perform in the playoffs with the whole fanbase ready to write him off. Glad the way things turned out for him tho he would’ve wasted his career if he stayed in ny. Toronto got a star just don’t realize it yet.

Offensive philosophy change did wonders. Going from spacing for Brunson to initiate PnR or Randle isos, to teammates who can initiate from the elbows, pass to cutters, run more dribble handoffs, and let RJ get downhill was critical. Next step, ramp up his conditioning even more to play hard at both ends and bring that FT% up.

Yes, he can and he will. In NY three players were competing for space on the left side of the basket. He was then forced to move more to his weak hand to balance the right-side force of attack and shooting more 3’s on the right side of the arc too. RJ will be the steal in this trade and a top 2 player for the Raptors next year

Idk if you watched Knicks or looked at the stats. He played well in different times but was always in a situation similar to Scottie with vets. But worse these were vets on there last legs. One of the morris twins where is he? Randle he was traded from lakers to pels to Knicks no one wanted him E Payton out the leagu Frank almost out Dennis miller was struggling they had portis right after punching out a teammate so idk I think the Knicks were a mess and the rj era was on the way up. He had high scoring games and even ended the previous playoffs on a good note. Then the same thing. Jalen Brunson came in and took over. So no he had plenty of signs people who didn’t see it was because they didn’t see the Knicks at all ever until they started winning.

New York RJ was more asked to self-create while Raptors RJ is asked to work offball and in transition with the majority of his points now being assisted, Thibs ISO heavy system just didn't fit. RJ still needs to improve his defence and 3s, but in my opinion, hes the perfect third option around Scottie.

As a Knicks fan I miss RJ. I honestly think the trade was a win win for both. OG is a better fit for the current Knicks roster as the last missing piece while both RJ and IQ are better fits with the Raptors with both stepping up and get more opportunities during the Raptors rebuild. The issue was in NY RJ was himself a ISO heavy player like Randle and IQ was not getting enough playing time off the bench despite him nearly becoming 6MoTY last year.

Yes, many could see it coming. After his first season with “Thibs” and Leon, I knew he would be traded. I also knew that whenever he got traded, he would immediately fulfill the expectations of a consensus #1 pick coming out of high school. I quit my Knicks fandom when they traded him. He was going to/supposed to be our superstar. Leon went with NEPOTISM as I thought he would, and here we are. They signed Brunson, his daddy, and all of his “Nova pals”, then the entire team became Jalen’s overnight, despite the fact that RJ, Randle, and Mitch were the ones responsible for getting the Knicks back to respectability and the playoffs. Disgusting sports politics. Knicks ain’t winning a thing, and RJ will be HUGE in Toronto. - from a former GARBAGE KNICKS fan. They truly do deserve to be cursed for all eternity.
