Sure, now you tell me. I spent my entire life preparing to be the World TT Champion but then gave that up and became a monk once you told me I couldn't use two disc wheels. Imagine my shame (and the weird haircut) now that I know I could have continued with my dream.

Another Francis Cade educational video. Things I learnt today. Crashing and laying on the floor makes you slower. Cycling sunglasses are made from special stuff. Alex Dowsett is a legend. TBF, in no particular order, I knew two of these already and had a suspicion about the other one.

May I back up your comments. Sungods service is 2nd to none . brought 3 pairs of glasses for bike , car and dat to day use (mclaren Monacos) .. all arrived next day INCLUDING the ones I ordered on a Saturday afternoon on the train.. My Oakley radars are now in the drawer as I love these shades. Great videos Cade!

I actually found a local brand in Poland that makes glases with corrective lens inserts (Tripout Optics). They are ok but they are not great. At least it is an option. Look around you might find something similar.

I'd call Alex an Aero super nerd. I got an email from HED Wheels containing pictures of their new wheel. It's carbon and rim brake, and 180 mm deep!!! It's crazy looking in all the right ways! Spokes goes through the carbon (nothing new), but THE CARBON IS INSIDE/BETWEEN THE SPOKES! I promise I'm not trying to advertise for HED. I love them and Alex has rode them, but I've been wanting to tell somebody for 8 hours and this seemed a good place (I don't have many cycle friends that would understand). I hope you and Daisy have been well!

It is true that the yaw angle reduces as the speed increases but, if you have done gust response analysis on aircraft, you will know that the reduction in angle is offset by the aero load increasing by the square of the speed. The result is the load increases linearly with speed. Going faster is not going to help you out, even with the reduced yaw angle.

So... if you handle a bike with two disc wheels like a SAILBOAT... so tacking... (i don't know enough about sailing I realise) but the zig-zagging a sailboat does to use the wind to its full potential, can you then potentially gain infinite speed?

Maybe you could install a Cane Creek Viscoset headset or Hopey damper to slow down the steering a bit to make riding double discs less twitchy up front.

Sucks that UCI bans CTT from having disc wheels. Esp since it's in a velodrome w/ lesser Yaw angle. But disc wheels are quite cool though. Also you can't run rear disc wheels for Ironman Triathlons (not UCI regulated) apparently. Thus, HED came up with the JET 180 this year.

Interesting that it's not banned because I would have sworn it's something we'd be seeing every once in a while. Surely there are a few TTs per year held under calm wind conditions. It may not be the safest thing, but watch any race you'll unsafe things on a regular basis. With teams chasing every marginal gain this seems odd to me.

Does double (or single) disc help with a tailwind at a yaw angle less than 90 degrees? It seems it might be like a sail.
@BenB21361
2 жыл бұрын
You should be able to cycle faster than the wind during a tailwind because you're only battling rolling resistance if you're not. And you should not consider buying disc wheels if you are unable to do that. When cycling with a tailwind and you cycle faster than the wind the tailwind turns into an apparent headwind. The yaw angle and suitability of a disc wheel then depends on your speed, and the speed and angle of the wind
