I feel like the ‘dead/missing parent’ trope is because for many of these movies the girls were too young to really have a romantic plotline, so that was given to their single parent instead (because of course, you can’t have a movie without a romantic plotline). That or to make it easier to escape parental supervision.

2:48 they said in an interview that whenever they sat down with a movie production team they would ask them, “Who’s the girly girl and who’s the tomboy?” And reluctantly Mary-Kate (I believe) said, “I guess I’m more of a tomboy…” and Ashley said, “I guess I’m more girly…” and that’s it. They've even talked about this themselves but said they won't get tested because they don't want to know one way or the other. But their teeth fell out on opposite sides, they have opposite dominant hands and when one is doing really well the other is usually not doing so good plus when they were younger they looked a lot like mirror opposites
@blackgirlmagicc

Actually pretty interesting (I fell down a rabbit hole) but they probably are in fact identical but don’t know it bc as far as they’ve said about it their knowledge that they are fraternal (dizygotic) twins is from the ultrasounds before their birth they both had their own placenta and amniotic sack but that doesn’t mean they aren’t identical (monozygotic) twins you can tell if they are going to be identical in the womb bc they’ll share an amniotic sack and or placenta but you can’t know for sure if you’re fraternal bc very rarely if the egg splits like right after being fertilised you can end up with identical twins with their own placenta/sacks the only way to know for sure is a dna test but most of the time the assumption is they will be fraternal because it is almost all the time it’s very rare

I had no clue I'd seen any of the Mary-Kate and Ashley movies until the clip of Mary-Kate playing baseball from It Takes Two played and I had an out of body experience because I apparently erased that entire movie from my brain. So thanks for that lmao

So I’ve never actually seen To Grandmother’s House We Go, I just vaguely remember seeing commercials for it but all I could recall was the girls riding the carriage. So this whole time I thought it was just a cute movie about twin girls riding a horse drawn carriage through the magical Christmas forest to their grandma’s house. I was obviously mistaken.

The only thing I remember at all from Getting There is "why do they call you Toast?" Well toast gets burned alot" 😂 that will never not be funny. But my fav of the older years was winning London. " They're called tea sandwiches. More like teeny weeny sandwiches" 😂😂😂

all I'm gonna say is if you aren't listening to the "they thought I was you" podcast and you're a marykate and ashley fan you totally should! Its 2 friends who are superfans and are going back througb all their whole timeline and even get to interview people who worked closely with them and other superfans. They also are trying to uncover the behind the scenes like their relationship with their parents and manager and whether they even wanted to do this. 2nd showing and gimme pizza are also good ones! Derricks doll collection has some good info as well💖

When I was in highschool, my friend was OBSESSED with MK&A, so she lent me every single one of their movies on VHS. She was so disappointed when I watched them all & told her I liked their silly kid movies rather than the travel + meet boys ones 😂 I should rewatch them.

I was absolutely jumpscared at 45:53 - I am friendly with Curtis Andersen as of a few years ago and I never noticed just HOW much stuff he is in from my childhood. He doesn't really act anymore but I keep seeing his face in EVERYTHING. The only thing I knew of before meeting him was Sabrina the Teenage Witch, in which he is only in the first season I believe. But recently I saw him pop up in Gilmore Girls, my FAVORITE show, as the prosecutor on Rory's case. It's sort of that phenomenon of when you get a certain type of car, you start noticing it everywhere lol. Also, his accent is so... interesting lol. I'm tempted to ask what the instructions were for it.
