I remember them being really close friends since it's Bloom who discovers Stella on Earth. Also with the fashion, horrible choice. Y2K fashion has been coming back for at least a year and all of the characters had a certain aesthetic that is very Y2K fashion. The series was filmed in 2019 which was already bringing back Y2K fashion. So very poor choice from the designers.

@Pavlinka__
3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. However, I think that sometimes moving something from animation to live action can make somewhat interesting emotional shift. Like looking from a different angle at the same thing. Same thing applies with moves from claymation to cgi to whatever else, right. Sometimes it's also really cool reading a book that is made from a movie. Sometimes these things get adapted to video-games and what not. It's cool seing how à different medium makes the story, world, characters shine in a different way. But in this case, you have to have a vision to bring winx club to real life and not to the typical lame Netflix show hah. And I also guess that animation is not yet seen as a companion to live action when it comes to not-a-kid people, so, I suppose we have a way to go. I personally think it's not that a long of a way, but I suppose it still exists. (I also feel like older people are more likely to watch animation than kids and teens. Because animations is exactly what you're taking about, deep and mature. Not really kid stuff. Teens probably could but it takes a whole for a person to appreciate art haha. It's not immediate for everyone... I guess it's up to your definition of animation lol. Like, spongebob is animation but when I hear animation I think dog Island or something. I suppose spongebob is a cartoon. And spongebob has its deep and mature episodes too.)

For me, I think the most disappointing aspect is the lack of friendship. We still don't have a good example of what a nontoxic, supportive, empowering female friendship looks like in shows targeted at teenage girls. While growing up, I didn't see one onscreen healthy friendship (Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, Secret Life - there was always some sort of horrible betrayal or insult, and you don't treat people like that) and we still don't see one in Fate. When at its core, the Winx Club was about the beautiful friendships between very different women. Especially making Bloom and Stella's relationship strained over a boy?? Are you kidding me? I am so upset with the writers, directors, and anyone else who had something to do with that decision. It's just insulting at this point.

If they wanted to have a fucking love triangle couldn't they just made Sky a prick who's playing them both or something? and meanwhile the relationship between both girls flourishes, and they become very good friend because no crush should dictate how you treat another person. It even could become a romantic relationship between Stella and Bloom, where they realize that the other person is soooo great and why Sky likes them both, and instead of having to settle with the white boy they fall-in-love, and have a beautiful relationship. This way you don't have the blatant misogyny and can add LGBT representation.

Here's my comment from earlier: I’m tired of Fate: the Winx Saga claiming to be diverse. They say that they are racially diverse but they only have TWO non white characters (and only ONE non white main character) who are BOTH eventually villified (albeit only for a short time in Aisha's case but still). They say they are diverse in body types but they only have ONE plus sized character who always gets made fun of for her weight and is never confident in it. They say that they are updating the gender roles by having male fairies and female specialists but they only have ONE male fairy and NO prominent female specialists (unless Noura counts but she got killed off). In addition, the ONE male fairy looks like a stereotypical masculine boy (because they got rid of all of the femininity that was associated with fairies) and does nothing to subvert gender roles. They claim to have LGBT rep but the ONE LGBT character is mocked for his sexuality, taken advantage of because of it, and villified (and not to mention the biphobia). Talk about performative diversity.

The irony of having all this shallow buzzfeed feminism when the entire premise of the reboot is rooted in sexism. The things they removed to make it edgy and serious is all of the stuff that's considered feminine and girly. The fashion, the sparkles, the fairies, the focus on the girl's friendships. All the things that were unashamedly girly were taken away because it's seen as silly and not to be taken seriously because it's associated with women. This isn't mentioning all the sexism within the writing of the new show. Just like when middle aged people write teens, it's very obvious when men who don't *love* women try and write ''woke feminism''

I hated that they branded the show as being “woke” while whitewashing the cast. The only thing they did that was supposed to be "woke" was calling out sexism, but they never tried to solve it. They only dropped social justice words here and there and didn’t use them properly. She could've just said that she had it under control or something why did she have to bring up the whole patriarchal society topic?? It seemed like the show was desperate to make us understand that the girls are feminists and strong. But why do we need to see it in words? The original winx literally SHOWED us that they were strong and never needed that damsel in destress arc this show could've done the same but it is very clear to me the white men that made the remake know nothing about true femininity without acting like buzzfeed took over the script.

Bloom saved Stella in the original series, and though Stella is prideful and popular, she’s not a bitch lmao. She doesn’t look down upon other girls to make herself feel better, which is the impression I get from this Netflix series. Also there’s no need for there to be a love triangle!!! something I loved about Winx when I watched it as a kid is that EVERY girl (and even side character!!) had an aesthetic and style that was completely their own. Musa had a more tomboy look, Stella obviously have a preppy look, Bloom wore kind of innocent baby girl type beats, ect. Fate missed out on that by making all of the girls wear roughly the same colors and styles :((

We need to talk about the characters more. Bloom was literally the MOST irritating and least-relatable character. First off, she almost burned her parents to a crisp because she was mad they took her door away?! After she yelled and cussed at her mom in a way that my own mother would have killed me for? There was absolutely no explanation why she was considered a weirdo or why she was so aggro towards her parents. Then she’s literally so stand-offish with the Winx for no reason? All of them including Stella towards the end, help her and each other showing a hint of that original friendship from Winx. Bloom, however, DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for ANY of them. My girl Aisha was treated like shit the ENTIRE time. In my opinion, Bloom’s character was horrible and super rough. I for sure would never have been friends with someone like her. She’s incredibly selfish and causes so much destruction because she can’t use a bit of common sense. How she gonna trust Beatrix when she literally MURDERED someone? Bloom was just like “eh she had to have her reasons” WHAT?! She treated her friend and Sky like shit. I wish that they hadn’t easily forgave her. She also caused the headmistress DEATH by releasing Rosalind. The original Bloom was a kind-hearted girl who cared the most about her friends and loved ones. She wasn’t some whiny ass selfish bitch who only cared about herself and her problems. I’m still so mad that NO ONE helped Aisha when she was stressing out about her magic. that was so shitty. If they decide to renew this, I hope they do some fucking justice to Bloom because season 1 WAS NOT IT. edit: wow i didn’t expect so many likes and comments. Let me just say when I wrote this I didn’t realize how aggro it sounded whoops!! I’m studying to be a writer and I have screenwriting experience so I was very angry from that standpoint non how they botched the characters, especially the protagonists! That said, everyone is entitled to their opinions! This is just mine :) please be kind and respectful to everyone else’s! Also, I love the discussion in the comments about the reasons this character sucked! Also, I should clearly state that I wasn’t expecting an exact cartoon to live-action accuracy. They chose a different route which isn’t necessarily bad, but they did it horrendously in my opinion. Could have been SO MUCH better!!! Also, the clothing was atrocious! Definitely could have taken some tips from the wardrobe department of Euphoria!

You are a princess and your significant other (if you choose to have one) needs to see you like that all the time, becouse every girl is special and deserve kindness, compliments and love, especially from "the one". We are still little girls playing princess dress up at heart. Don't let anyone ever make you feel you are asking for too much, seeing you as special should never be "a chore", it should come natural to people who truly love you and see your true self. People who don't make you feel like that are not your circle and that counts friends, family, partner... You deserve to be treated like a human being, a girl human being at that, with all your girliness that comes with it. Not a mother, a man, a therapist, a cleaning lady, a best friend or whatever role other people want to put you in for their benefit but just relax and be a princess. ❤️ And i know you know but just a little reminder- Us, white people, made movies and animation with white women as princesses. It means nothing. It made this dangerous portrail that we are more delicate (or whatever) but it does not mean it's true, we just made more movies trough history, don't you ever take it as fact! We had the resources and liberty to put out narratives we wanted trough media, it was one sided fantasy, not true! During slavery black women were put in a role of more "Savage, unworthy, manly", they did not choose those rolls, they were princesses taken from their homeland and enslaved. We, as a sociaty, are working on new representation, a correct one and I belive in time it will balance out. Sorry for writing this much you just touched my heart, bless you.

Like Stella being a diva and Riven being roguish. 2: The dialogue. I swear, it was like this show was written by a twelve year old who just learned what swearing, sex, and controlled substances were. You took the words outta my mouth😭😭 the cursing and substance/sex language feels like it was literally put in just to look cool, i feel like a large group of scriptwriters think this is what they need to make a "teen" "mature" "dark" tv show, when actually the truly smart scriptwriters would know this is 100% false - an effective script for this genre relies on the plot, the energy, the way the characters express and communicate with each other and their environments. “Diverse” these days means there are white and black characters. No Muslims, no Arabs, no Latinx characters, no Polynesians or Natives from any country, rarely an Asian. So annoying. And when your characters are literally mythical beings, who cares what their body type is? If they look like real people then yeah, you have to think about body diversity as well.

26:10 As a massive fan of OUAT, I'd also like to point out that they actually explained why Emma always wore that jacket! They made it connect to the lore of the universe and her personal story, so it wasn't just "Emma Swan wearing red because red is her favorite color." That jacket had meaning, which makes it even better of a parallel to "the girl who wore read because fire."

I grew up with Winx and they are an integral part of my childhood. My friend and I literally called each other Bloom and Stella because we were so close (and they were our favorite). This series leaves me upset, bc they could have literally named it something else, changed the character names, and had a semi-competent story. Ofc there are still other problems within the plot (Aisha having no character development and only existing to support Bloom or Terra's weight constantly being the butt of the joke and it being normal) but it would have still been better. This is why banking on nostalgia is a double-edged sword; yes you almost always have a large guaranteed audience but that large audience will also be ruthless in judging you if you ruined their show they loved so much. And with Winx being such an iconic and well-done show, the bar was very high, and Netflix just didn't reach it. ALSO: Why did they have to make Stella (my favorite) a BTEC Regina George? Can Netflix producers not see blonde, fashionable women and also see them as intelligent, multi-layered complicated people? Also Techna/ Icy, Stormy fans be happy, y'all were spared.
