I stopped at the third episode, after the director VERY CLEARLY sexualized and made things up. The show portrays male victims of rape horrifically, and the overt sexualizing and incest-angle being relished by the director is just... No. Disgusting. The Dahmer story had its big issues, but not like this one.

True, agreed, but perhaps we need to remember that these are dramitations of events and not complete factual representations. With the Menedez series, episode 5, blew me away! Kudos to the director and actors in this episode, they don't show close ups back and forth in the usual form of Abramson nor Eric's faces, all you see is her back almost the entire time and her just asking him extremely detailed and difficult questions about his entire childhood, and his uncomfortability, and his willingness to answer. That is a good presentation that you rarely see in a drama. It almost seems like a real time therapy session. In a crime drama, a lot of times it's about presenting a situation which may not be totally accurate, but may speak to others in a way they may be able to relate to.. The clincher in this episode is (not sure if anyone caught it) was at the very end when he looks at her in a possible duality. His look suggests either A. Have bought most of my lies and are gonna help me, or does it suggest B. I'm raw to the core and I need your help? Again, good acting on all the actors performances!

Yk since me and my mom are true crime fanatics... I know😂, while watching the show I discussed with her as she remembers the time when it was huge (the murders) and since I knew shit basically I asked why since they were wealthy and abused didn't they just rob their father and runaway and she basically said and again this was before I ever finished the show to which I learnt that they couldn't to basically learn that the only option out was to kill them was very sad and heartbreaking man. I'm not trying to defend murder or anything but I do feel like the Boys didn't necessarily deserve full 2 life sentencing instead rather mental treatment and some sort of sentencing to where they are supervised 247? I don't know, at the end of the day I'm just taking on from what went on in the show, interested to watch some sort of documentary on it as I know for a fact not everything was accurate having watched monster the Jeffrey Dahmer story.

One note: the reason I mention horror so much is how much the first season was made, marketed, and viewed within a horror lens. The Monster series was pitched as a horror true crime series; this lacks the scares but does go for shock which could fall in the horror umbrella. 2. I think the performances really do range wildly. Thanks for watching it so I don't have to. As to your question if these kinds of stories need to be told: Yes. There are more instances of sexual abuse of boys that generally remain covered up, since it is generally assumed that only females can be raped. It's important to shine a light on this traumatizing abuse of boys and men. So, icky though it may be, it's an important story that perhaps explains why someone might want to murder their abuser.

Ryan left out current evidence that proves sexual abuse,including a new accuser from boy band Menudo. Dahmer was scary because he was in a class all on his own,the Menendez boys didn’t chop up their parents and do creepy shit with the remains. There is a documentary on Peacock that is more accurate than this series was. Next season is Ed Gein,another creepy dude from Wisconsin that loved chopping up peoples bodies and doing crazy shit,Gein was the inspiration for Norman Bates and Texas Chainsaw Massacre,hopefully Murphy gets that right cause here he did not. Only part I liked was the performances,actors doing their best with the material they were given.

As for your last question I feel that a documentary is really the way to go when trying to inform people on true crime. When you take a case like the menendez brothers case it’s really hard to portray it and have people be okay with the way it was portrayed. Trying to take such a sensitive case and implement certain opinions on what might’ve happened when this case discussed heavy topics of sa is just not the way to go. It can make victims feel that they won’t be heard or believed. There is a docu series on prime called “Erik Tells All” that I feel is a better alternative option to watch when actually wanting to get facts and hear from a primary source (Erik himself). Also watching the first trail which is all over the internet and you can see all the testimony’s and evidence shown in court. I totally agree that making a show about this particular case was a choice because both the brothers are still alive and don’t have any control in the narrative which is somewhat cruel in my opinion. It’s very damaging. This case was not black and white which makes it hard to portray on a Netflix show. You just gotta stick to fact and not stray too far off.
@lorenacia7579

I can't get my head around the fact that Dahmer was portrayed as someone more "normal" to live with than the two brothers, who are quite caricatured in the series, in addition to the tone of wanting to portray them as villains. Obviously I don't agree with what they did, but it doesn't take away the fact that Dahmer was a sick cannibal, while the two brothers are two traumatized children who were afraid of being killed by their parents.
@EJMoreno

And here is my inherent problem with shows like this. We are now basically comparing killers, which feels so strange. Like it's a competition on who can have the most sympathy or be the worse. Hey EJ, I agree with a lot of the points you made about this show. The depiction of the brothers and the lack of detail and attention to both perspectives on the case. In terms of “Do we need shows or podcasts” related to true crime? I’d say yes. If people are aware of these crimes, there’s conversations to be had related to the crime. In this case, Child abuse stands out the most. Regardless, amazing video hope to see more soon!

Well, he is pushy the whole gay theme angle from his own personal life on to the tv series, which he shouldn't. If your doing a true crime drama, you don't put your own life into the story. You should be tell the story as its write and from the character perspective. This might cause more problems for the brothers in prison. And I'm not talking about received fan mail from men but they might start get bullied in prison for this. While they might never get out of prison but they built a life there and they might not want to ruin it because of what they suffered.

I agree with you regarding the gay theme in the story. Before the tv series started I looked into both brothers past with their parents. But it never mention once if Erik or Lyle were ever with other guys. Most of the time it talk about the girls they been dating and how their parents reject them because they called them sluts, whore and gold digger. In one of the story Erik or Lyle invited their girlfriend around for dinner but their mother refuse to bring out any china plates so they end up eating from paper plates. I also hear one of the brothers was molested by a few security guards in prison too. But it wasn't mention if Lyle ever made a friend with a gay prison inmate. This might also be another attempt at trying to please the gay community, in the past tv series and movies seem to add gay theme or characters so they could please their community. Also in my research I find out Erik and Lyle never kiss one another on the lips. I do wonder what Erik, Lyle and their family would be think about this tv series. They might be mortified by the creators depicts of the brothers and might want to sue them for false facts here. They did the same thing with the Jeffrey Dahmer tv series, where they gave fiction backstories to the victims' families and Lionel Dahmer (which I find out passed away last year). Where will this end the false details about the characters & their stories?
