Tarantulas terrify me but I'm sort of intrigued now. But still terrified. Lol

I just picked up a Brazilian Black from the Anaheim Super Show. I got two freebies at the show, a Salmon pink, and a Red Rump. Wasn't expecting that, so now I'm researching like a mofo.

I love my Ts! I have a G pulchra named Kat and she’s the sweetest. All the Grammastola species are super slow growers. You picked some great species to start out with.

Welcome to the tarantula community. Pulchras are my favorite of what i keep. Just so dang pretty. Glad to see someone with an audience in reptiles Crossing over to spiders as i really believe spiders make the best pets, for observation of course.

Also, please let me recommend you keep an eye out for the eresus walckenaeri. Another super simple spider to keep but a wonderful little thing to observe!

I'm surprised there isn't more cross over I always thought it was strange that reptile keepers make the same negative remakes on spiders that they hate getting for their reptiles

I would say it comes from the same place reptile haters come from, just a lack of understanding. A lack of perspective or a lack of wanting to learn about it. When I had my son I didn't have much time to dedicate to care and I found that tarantulas really don't need much attention to be happy. When people have something to say about spiders I always compare to keeping fish which is mainstream understood.

They are such awesome pets. And the care is a breeze compared to reptiles for sure.

Welcome to the tarantula community! Don't be afraid of the scientific names, because almost everybody says them differently. Just as long as you get the spelling right, you're a-ok. And I almost always copy and paste the names from Google. I would just put the name up on the screen. I know that you've found that a bit intimidating, but you'll get used to it! 🕷️ My curly hair is also very quick to kick hairs. Don't be an idiot like me and handle the substrate with bare hands either.

I just finished filming the next tarantula video and I used all their scientific names for the new ones. I wasn't a great time 😅

@@Dakotahblueexotics I'm also "new" ish to the hobby. I got into it after last September. I broke my arachnophobia after some videos and catching one Daddy Long-Leg. I just spent a large portion of my time and probably a lot of memory space better used elsewhere, memorizing the names. I believe though that we should promote usage of both names so people can see them and get used to them as well. I ended up making a spreadsheet to actually keep a lot of my information for me. Lol. It only has over 1000 different species on it. Hehe.

Am I the only one that instinctually feels like this is wrong? I know for a fact those lovely animals get treated nicely and are very loved but... it just... it's a gut feeling... like, they don't belong in the pet category. Like they're to be looked at from afar and studied but not actually kept as pets. Again, not saying it in a negative way I really do get it that they're treated nicely and fed nicely and all that. Just an instinctual feeling.
