Hi Lee. My 2 daughters both had a year at American Universities. They both flew to San Francisco and took in all the sights including Alcatraz. Me and my late wife were going to take the Californian Zephyr from Chicago to San Francisco. Had it all booked but she was diagnosed with bowel cancer and passed away 5 months later. I think my days of travelling are over as it would not be the same without her. So your posting these Vlogs are cheering me up. As they say keep posting!

This has to be hands down the best Mac master video yet, I've been fascinated with Alcatraz since watching Clint Eastwoods movie and seeing the tour was awesome, corny jokes aside and the pleasant lack of music made this extremely enjoyable, thanks Lee.

Went in 97 did the Alcatraz tour not as busy then, as we landed the wardens shouted at you asking why are you so happy going to jail, played a really great role. The motel we stayed in the night before had escape from Alcatraz on the tv which drowned out the noise from the room next door. Will be following your journey with interest as we drove down the coast road to San Diego and then went to Las Vegas and Yosemite National Park. Love the US great country.

You picked an excellent time to visit SF during Fleet Week. On your return trip, that was an F-22 and a P-51 doing a “heritage flight”. Really enjoyed your tour descriptions. I did the Alcatraz tour in the early 1970s; there was no audio tour (or evening tours), only plaques and written displays with much less support infrastructure.

Lee we paid about that and got a mega discount voucher to eat at Bourdin bakery just down the road past stinky seals at pier 39..Did you get a dirty hot dog when you got off the ferry….Controversial.i spoke to one of the guides who does a really interesting talk in the food hall about the great whites..he said there in there and they go in to pier 39 for the smorgasbord of seals..hilarious I ran from the bottom gift to the top gift shop to get a poster, nearly missing the ferry back, then on the pier there’s an Alcatraz shop.I’m glad I had the chance to go to where they’d filmed escape from Alcatraz..We walked across the golden gate which was spectacular but I found it a bit grim and no way as fantastic as the Sydney harbour bridge.

Hi Lee, this has - for me at least - been one of the most interesting videos you've ever released! The fact that Bill is there regularly does nothing to diminish the significance of talking to the man and having him sign your copy of the book.
