Greetings everyone, in this video we are in Kyoto, Japan. Kyoto has 5 flower towns. We are in Gyon, one of them. And we are in the biggest temple of this place. Today I will try to tell you about Geishas. Even though Kyoto is their headquarters, I can say that there are 200 of them left even here.
What is Geisha in more detail? Geisha is the collective name for women known as traditional artists and entertainers in Japan. Geishas are trained and specialized in music, dance, conversation, tea ceremonies, and other traditional Japanese arts. They often entertain guests at luxury teahouses, restaurants, and special events throughout Japan.
Geisha's clothing style is known for traditional Japanese kimonos and wooden sandals called zori. They also wear wigs called katsura, whose hair is done in an intricate and elegant way. Their make-up is also done in a special and eye-catching style.
Geishas are also considered guardians of Japanese culture and offer their clients pleasant conversation, entertainment and traditional arts. Geisha's work is often organized within a traditional Japanese hanamachi (geisha quarter) system called an okiya. Geishas train under the guidance of okiyas and take different names at different stages of their careers.
Geisha have a long history in Japan and this profession represents an important part of Japanese traditions. However, today the number of traditional geisha has decreased and this profession has become less common.
