I grew up in Bundaberg and moved when I was 17 to Brisbane for uni. It is definitely rude, reactive (politically) and confronting at times. However, it is victim to being a town with very little to do, low incomes, high unemployment, poor health services (as the lovely woman highlighted - thanks for sharing your story), a general lack of opportunity and the small town syndrome where everybody knows each other & is in each other’s business. A lot of people have never been overseas before and are hostile to foreigners so xenophobia and racism is rampant. It is very homophobic and is also statistically, I believe, the ‘fattest’ town in Australia (media’s language, not mine). I am so defensive of my hometown because I think it is so gross & privileged to comment on people here when you have never lived in a town like this. I’m so glad this video showcased some context and the realities of how hard it can be to live in such a place - people are a product of their conditions and that is definitely the case for Bundy! We also have stunning beaches, great public schools and some huge brands (Bundaberg Sugar, Bundaberg Rum, Bundaberg Ginger Beer). We are at the bottom of the reef and have beautiful weather. We aren’t all bad and it is a beautiful part of the world so don’t write us off too quickly❤

That poor lady who lost her son at the uselessness of the health services. That is criminal. Our Government is a failure. :(

I was 18 in the mid 80's and was hitch hiking around Australia with a life long friend of mine...we ended up staying at the "Sunshine" caravan park....all was well until we smoked some weed one night...the next day we went to the beach and didn't get back to the caravan park till late afternoon...WELL! Were we surprised when we rocked up to find all our belongings packed into our suitcases and placed outside our caravan! (Oh, and they stole stuff, like my expensive purfume set, clothes etc)... We were escorted out of the actual town....straight to the border, by the local police, and were told NEVER to return!.....Amd that was MY experience of bloody Bundaberg...😄😎

The bloke shoved a mic in an old lady with dementias face and edited in audio to make her look dumb. Proceeded to say "Can't comment on that." Because you couldnt get anything out of the lady.. good sign he knew there was a possibility of mental illness and still edited it in.

If you’re filming people and asking for a dollar, there’s a pretty good chance that they’ll sus you out and call BS by not wanting to be involved. The same goes for being approached on the street by a complete stranger with a microphone and camera. I’m of the opinion that the majority of these people weren’t being rude, they’re just following their own idea of common sense.

The entire population of the country is insidiously awful. Emotionally abusive behaviour and compulsive lying is like a bodily function to a lot of people here. They just think it’s apart of the Australian life

Having grown up in QLD, but moving to NSW and then to SA and then back to NSW, I can honestly say the nicest most caring and hospitable people are in SA. SA often gets overlooked as a place to live, and I get it, it’s friggen cold.. lol. But living there opened my eyes to how communities should be. I had a toddler and a baby while living there, and the amount of times strangers helped me in public by getting the door for me while I was struggling with a pram, or even just entertaining my toddler for a bit while I tended to the baby… oh my gosh, I’m tearing up about the kindness. If it wasn’t so cold there I would’ve settled there permanently. It opened my eyes to how QLDers in general just aren’t like that.

While working in a petrol station here in Sydney, met a guy from Bundaberg, Queensland. Punched the monitor and dismantled the connection ripped off the cables just because he refused to pay 5 dollar (which he said will pay later) and I let him know that we cannot give cigarettes with 5 less and he can grab it later when he brings the 5. But to my surprise, I saw everything getting shattered within seconds, right before my eyes.😢😢
