It's been months since I have been back to the Rigolets area (East of Lake Pontchartrain), but I just had to make a trip and see what the Redfish (Red Drum for our East Coast friends) and Largemouth Bass were doing. If you have seen very many of my trips, you know I love to go way back in the marsh and hunt for fish in the most remote places I can physically get my boat. After the last couple of trips to Hopedale chasing Speckled Trout, I was ready for a little break from the high traffic fishing areas. There is nothing like the day breaking over an endless marsh. The sound of all manner of birds, the splash from an occasional redfish crashing a mullet in the back of a pond, and the smell of the saltwater are all part of the obsession that can get in your blood and keep you coming back. As usual, the Bass were not that hard to find in these marshes, but I had to hunt for the redfish (which makes it sweeter when you find a couple). The next trip I take, I hope to be able to show y'all the magic that happens in the summer time on top water frogs. I had one tied on for this trip, but it just didn't happen.
