They should have made Asha fascinated by magic since she was a child. From then onwards, she wanted to free people from disappointment with the wave of a wand. In young adulthood, she seeked to become a sorcerer/wizard (she planned on giving the king a different wish in order to keep her passion), and she saw the king as an icon/role model. This would make the interview with the king about Asha potentially becoming the king's apprentice. Here, Magnifico would explain that the most important thing about magic is not granting everyone's wish because that would cause chaos. Also, he would not want Asha to master magic because that would take power away from him. It would have been cool to see a dungeon filled with skeptics/"traitors" who criticized Magnifico since Asha would not have been the first person to do so. When the star came down from the sky, it could have granted Asha her own wand to practice with. Her conquering magic would be her goal and arc for the film. (Her friends could be more involved this way). This would have Asha earn the role of "Fairy Godmother" at the end of the film.

2:02 Sabino wishing to "inspire people with his music" is terribly vague. Songs in the middle ages, when Wish is set, were a way to convey information and also sway crowds. Bards and bands were often silenced if they had an opinion the king didn't like...but they could also stir up unrest with songs of mockery and satire towards the monarchy. *That's* why Magnifico wouldn't grant it. He knows the danger of inspiration without direction.

RE: the songs, I like This Wish and At All Costs-- like them enough to listen to them repeatedly on Spotify! but I HAAAATE how hammered in those scenes those songs felt. EVERY song felt. At All Costs by itself sounds like parents singing to their newborn/child, or a Disney couple's wedding song. Why would the King and some random job interviewee burst into a romantic duet in the middle of said interview? And where was Magnifico's "I will protect you" attitude in the latter half of the movie? This Wish was so vague. It was supposed to be Asha's "I want" song, but what does she want? "more than... this!" And it's so unsatisfying to have Magnifico defeated with the power of song and wish at the end. Beautiful reprisal, but it boiled me how pointless it all felt.

Probably one of the biggest hot takes in my life is that I reaaaally actually liked Wish! And it wasn't just me forcing myself to like it or something, I just came to watch it with no expectations and I found it to be really beautiful especially when it came to it's ending! (I actually cried at This Wish Reprise!) and I admit, we noticed that there were DEFINITELY parts that could be improved, like some plot points that didn't go anywhere and such (Like, I was waiting for the longest time for Magnifico's backstory to pay off in some way, but it never did, so what was the point?), but I think it's not as bad as people claim if you just watch it in isolation as a film-- I really related with it's core theme of Following your dream no matter what others, especially those with power and influence, may say! I interpret it as a metaphor for dreamers, and artists and romantics, and people who are passionate and loving rising up against "The Man," Those people who's telling you what you're longing to do will fail or is not beneficial or wrong and that no matter what they say, they have no right to tak away the most core part of ourselves. Our dreams, our hopes, our wishes. And yes, it would be so much easier to follow their ways, and hope that through them you'll achieve your dreams, but some people starts of with good intentions but gets twisted and corrupted along the way. And no, a dream alone won't be enough! That's why Asha didn't grant everyone's wishes with Star's magic! Instead she gave them a chance to pursue them on their own! Never did she outright grant people their hearts desire, but rather just give them what they needed for it to be granted! So yeah! I think I'm a part of the other 50% who liked the film XD BUT I ADMIT, after seeing everyone's criticism about the film, that it could have been SOOO much better-- Starboy and Asha and Evil Magnifico and Amaya would have been SO fun TwT

I still haven't watched wish but by the sounds of it It's quite a disappointing film. It's good that they finally have a villain in their films but they should definitely get rid of that adorkable Disney princess personality. the thing is, that Magnifico is not a classic disney villian. the first half of the Film, he is an actual benevolent king, who wants to protect his people, who all come to him on their own. nothing was ever forced on them. he is granting wishes on a regular basis (singing about granting 14 in the last year). they don't need to pay taxes or do anything for him either. the conflict comes from "I cant grant everyones wish because some of them could pose harm to the kingdom". wow. absolutly evil right there. later, when the star arrives, he thinks it is a genuine threat to his kingdom, as something like that happened in his past already. only in the second half he becomes truly evil by using dark powers in his desperation (wich feels very rushed and smells like lazy writing as well) and at this point, he became unredeemable because of plot. so this dude is an antihero at best who doesn't realy deserve what happened to him at the end.

Title: I wish I loved this movie Me: That's why it's called Wish, not all dreams come true in Disney
@karris8445

I feel like this movie has one threadbare theme and you keep talking about it like it’s a plot hole. Of course Asha gives back EVERYONES wish because it isn’t up to any authority to decide if a wish is “good” or “bad”. The theme is agency- both it keeping and making your own wish come true AND that people are individual but connected. and you said a few times that Asha shouldn’t give everyone’s wish back? That’s probably exactly how Magnifico started. He probably only granted ones that he didn’t see the harm in but the more you have that kind of power the more you have to protect it and the more paranoid you become. Magnifico had a point about Asha’s grandfathers wish. Since he made it come true by inspiring Asha (his wish isn’t to play an instrument for young people it was to inspire a generation). This inspiration lead to Magnifico’s downfall. So was that wish good or bad? It was bad for Magnifico. If Asha gets to choose which wish is safe or good. Who is it good for? How long can Asha truly think objectively when it comes to that? Your hyperbolic idea that there is a mass murderer might like… be true? But this is a story and I’m tired of Disney having to play 4D chess so some criticism like that doesn’t happen. And for that matter even if that actually is a wish, Simon’s wish is to be the best knight in the Kingdom. So his wish could potentially cancel or subvert a murderous wish. I appreciate your video and it did get my wheels turning in considering the media. Thanks for your time!
