living in NYC my whole life, i quickly realized that as beautiful as that city is- the views from a high ceiling apartment with big open windows is most accessible to the wealthy. the romanticized view of the city from this POV is the result of media.. it’s still beautiful but for other, more “rough-around-the-edge” reasons. the ordinary working class folks, mix of cultures, accessibility to museums, and art are just some of the many reasons i love it sm 🥰

I completely agree! Being a New Yorker myself, a lot of times I find that I view this place very differently from the way outsiders and tourists view it. But at the end of the day, it’s amazing being able to have access so many cool places and being able to meet so many different people from all walks of life. That keeps me from ever leaving despite how expensive it is.

True. I lived in NY for 10 years since my family moved here and maybe I'm starting to get too use to it but movies always made it so romanticizing especially during christmas holidays (example Home alone) and shows like partner track or sex in the city sometimes it do be like that without forcing it to have that feeling or Aesthetic. But after living here i know it's not really like that for everyone. Most of the things we see in the media is scripted to look that way and give that feel, you have to take NY and make it your own. I still love it here but i feel like i want to leave now and travel other places for that sense of adventure.

it’s funny you say this because i feel this way about my city! and bc nyc is bigger i was looking to finish school there, but i don’t think I romanticize it just bc i am used to growing up in a city area. i feel like it’s because i am yearning for more experiences and the city i am from just no longer feels like a place i can grow in. It feels more like a cage to me, and though i know nyc is not a perfect place i think my intuition knows that I’ll be able to experience the world that my home city has held me back from.

Hi Tiffany, I wanted to comment to tell you how thankful I am for you. I am an artist and I have been in a very dark place for a very long time now. I have pretty given up on my art for so long that I can’t even say the number of years it’s been. Watching you and listening to you has inspired me to get to the things I love the most. Maybe someday I’ll be able to get out of deep dark depressing hole I’ve been sitting in for far too long. I’m scared because I will probably fail again, and that’s too much to feel again.

i just got back from nyc this morning and what you said about people/experiences being better than location resonates with me! i currently live in a city where there's a lot to do but most of my friends moved away. i'm actually moving to nyc next month because my sister is there, so i'm excited! (i also love that you wanted to see a pizza rat, my goal every time i'm in ny is to see subway rats and bodega cats!)

I don't know if you have visited Boston and the surrounding area, but I highly recommend it! As a non-driver who moved to the US at 18, there are only a handful of places here where I can live without a car (and California was not one of them lol). While NYC felt quite busy and fast-paced (too similar to where I grew up in that sense), living in Boston was a bit more chill and slower-paced, while still being very walkable and transit friendly :)

Have you ever been to SF? It has a city vibe, mixed cultures, and it’s walkable and drivable. There’s a MOMA here, too. I visited NYC a long time ago and loved my trips there, very buzzy with excitement! But for living, I think I prefer SF for now, as it’s lively yet relaxing at the same time, and lots of good food and interesting people. 😊 Enjoyed your vlog 🧡

As a fellow east coast person yeah it’s not as it seems 🤣 I’m from Connecticut and people assume so much about that because the state is also romanticized so badly in like Christmas movies (but that’s only a small portion near the shore), many of us are working or lower class and rough around the edges. We aren’t all stock brokers living it up, many of us are just getting by as well as we can. NYC can be fun too, but I wouldn’t want to live there. Too much stimulation gives me anxiety (I hate Times Square for this reason, it legit stresses me tf out) and I have art friends who live there, it was so tough during the pandemic to be stuck in such small spaces. They went through so much and many of the city folk left the city to come to CT. I legit see so many New Jersey and New York plates everywhere and I’ve met families from the city who even moved to my tiny town and it was cute seeing them so hyped about trees in the park or the river I live by lol. We have a reputation of being cold/blunt and aggressive drivers too for a reason lol. Our winters aren’t as fun as everyone thinks either, having to scrap ice off your car or getting stuck gets old after a while, and seasonal depression is so so hard. Also, salt on the roads ruins your car 😔 We also unfortunately have extreme income inequality here one road can have mansions and a few blocks over you’re in the hood. It’s very, very sad. Living costs are expensive and it’s only getting worse. We aren’t as boujee as we seem either, most of my fashionable clothes come from a thrift shop! It’s not all terrible though, I’m very lucky to have grown up here-even though I come from a low income, rural town being here makes you more actionable I feel like and given the climate, education and politics of the rest of the country, I am perfectly okay with being where I am. We have our issues, but most people are pretty tolerable of each other and I have a lot of opportunities here being between Boston and nyc. I’m also grateful for our protected state forests and parks, the state has been doing a great job of revitalizing stuff too and investing in our parks. It’s been wonderful to see so many outdoors! If you ever come back, come to Vermont or New Hampshire for some leaf peeping in October! We go all out with festivals and fairs here too in September and October. This was such a beautiful vlog though, I’m glad you got to experience the real nyc and that’s what makes it for me a wonderful place. It’s authentic and another reason why I like the east coast. I’d rather be around someone who’s swearing and being themselves than someone who’s trying to save face and act a certain way.

I grew up here and ironically have always dreamed of moving somewhere quieter, haha. But the best part of living in nyc is definitely the availability of any kind of food you can think of. And also just how there's always some random specialty store in the city selling that weird art supply or book you suddenly want.

I fell in love with Seattle while visitng a couple of times, but knowing that more of my family, friends and community is where I am I find it hard to leave. My husband and I have decided where we are will probably where we'll stay for the rest of our lives. XD We really love it here, and still exploring our home state. Home is really wherever you make it as well. Whever you decided to go in future I know you'll make the best out of it. :)

I love New York! Manhattan, that is. So much to explore, including the Met's Cloisters at the far north of the island. Best pizza ever was at a hole in the wall in Greenwich Village. Fun to discover, people watch, and yes, eat. Try Yonah Schimmel's knishes on Houston Street. Anytime you have the urge to move anywhere, visit that place throughout the year to experience the seasons, the weather. New York is a different experience in the winter than in the summer. 🤗
