Hanabie is one of several all-female Asian rock bands I have discovered over the last year, and I love it! I got to see them at the Louder Than Life festival along with Babymetal, and did my time in the pits! Super fun! I also got to see Band-Maid this past spring and look forward immensly to seeing LOVEBITES in 2024!!

Ayyy!! Nice meeting you too! Super random! I was like “ wait… I’ve seen that guy before!”. my cousin bought me the tickets for my birthday, but he also didn’t tell me for who. I was completely surprised we saw Hanabi. Fun night!

You discovered Hanabie in the most amazing way possible - live. You have no idea how lucky you are. They started out in middle school as an after school music club. They've been around for 8 years, and this is their first tour outside of Japan. It wasn't until around February of this year that they went viral on tiktok and blew up with their song, "Pardon me, I have to go now'. The video has almost 5 million views in 8 months. They went from about 30,000 subscribers to 145,000. They also recently signed with Sony/Epic records. They call their sound _Harajukucore,_ a mix of metal, punk, electronic, pop, and rap. The name comes from the Harajuku district they frequent, which is famous for its trendsetting street fashion, music and art scene.I think you can see and hear it that for yourself from the concert footage. They are Matsuri -guitar, vocals, composition. Yukina - harsh and clean vocals. Hettsu - bass, chorus. Chika - drums. Thanks for posting your experience with Hanabie (ha-na-be-eh). Hanabie means the sudden return of cold weather after the cherry blossoms have bloomed.

Hanabie is one of the fastest-rising stars on the J-metal scene. They recently signed with Sony, and are on a festival circuit through the US right now. It also isn't terribly surprising that Galactic Empire is taking a Japanese metal band on tour with them, given that it was a Japanese metal act (Babymetal) that basically put them on the map when they took them on tour in 2018 and poached half their band to become Babymetal's new backing band for their US and Western dates.

Speaking of kawaii metal. The original kawaii metal band/idol group, Babymetal, has been touring the US with a backing band consisting of 3 former members of Galactic Empire. GE opened for them in Japan back in 2018. That led to the formation of the western Kami band. Hanabie and Babymetal have had dinner together. Babymetal is co-headling with Dethklok in the Babyklok tour.

Looks like you had a great time. The band pronounces their name "hanabi-eh" with the i and e at the end as two syllables. They call their kind of kawaii metalcore thing "Harajukucore".

Great video! What i liked about it, this was a genuine reaction, you can only be surprised once. In the deepest depth of strange japanese metal, glad you got to see Hanabie. I hope to see them soon. Based on this video im assuming you arent really into music. I found it sort of funny how you've described them as Screamo and even Death Metal, both of which are actual styles of music, Hanabie is neither. Which is all good, i dont expect outsiders to know all the terminology. I do get it though, its the incongruency that throws people for a loop. You see cute little Japanese girls playing some pretty heavy stuff. But this is just one of countless bands that play all sorts of metal and metal adjacent bands. I've become a fan, Hanabie is great, i love their music videos, the story telling is interesting, i end up watching the videos a few times trying to understand whats going on (since i dont speak the language) even then their videos are specific to Japanese culture. A small aside from what ive seen of Hanabie's shows, Hettsu (the bassist in the pink hair) rocks a beer with the crowd. What i love about it, she doesnt chug it like Stone Cold Steve Austin, but instead sips it politely since shes a lady.

Thanks! They were awesome, and yeah I would say I’m your normie when it comes to music/genres. I listen to a lot of bands, but I wouldn’t know what their “type” would be 😂

@@CozyEXP Nah he's just one of those gatekeeping fuckwits who tries to appear smarter than he is. They are Harajuku-core, which blends both screamo and death metal, so you were correct in your assessment. Also his "sips it, since she's a lady" was so goddamn cringe. Fucking incel level phraseology.
