In Florida we get heat waves that can last a week and cycle through the spring and summer months. There are a few things to keep in mind like keeping the roots cool. But there can also be figs that ripen early due to this heat. It forces them into a premature ripening. They actually do not swell as much as they would when it is time for them to ripen and the color of the pulp is usually a lighter color and not a deep red. It appears that the slower ripening allows for the deeper red colors to develop as well as the more complex floral and berry flavors. These that ripen early tend to have a faint memory of their real taste, but at least they are yummy figs to eat 😊
