@@taffyterrier how come they went that way only under this tory government then? When they replaced Labour, the NHS had its best satisfaction rating ever, now, it's at its worst. We have record waiting times, people are struggling to get a doctor's or dentist appointment, yet, the government says it is spending record amounts on it all. Almost as if they're siphoning it to private enterprise.

@@lindacurrie8817 I wouldn’t call the fraction who move abroad each year “droves” - more like a trickle. Other countries can pick and choose and will select highly educated, properly trained, competent doctors which excludes the vast majority of British medics.

Clearly you have very little insight re the state of health care and the retention and employment of staff. I have worked in health care for 45 years and I have never seen it in the state it is now. When I write and state staff are leaving in droves they are. Working conditions are extremely grave indeed and salary has decreased drastically for many years. I will take no head in sand syndrome from people like yourself and will not tolerate people like yourself parroting the Tories lies and sickening vile ideology. Tories have implemented a planned execution of the public sector not by accident an execution of the services the majority of citizens require when required to maintain a healthy life. Latter at some point may come your way and you have the absurdity to defend the Tories and right wing press. 14 years of the Tories dismantling the public sector and have brought this country to its knees and still you see them as your master. Astounding.

Senior doctors in the nhs are drastically underpaid for their skill set and responsibilities. They have taken nearly a 45% real terms pay cut over the last 15 years, no other sector comes even close to that. They sacrifice decades to get to the position they are in. And get paid between 2-5 times their salary in other English speaking western countries.

@@Bringon-dw8dx Senior doctors in the NHS are among the highest paid in Europe. Any perceived real terms pay cuts over the last 15 years are cancelled out by the excessive pay rises they received from New Labour over the previous 4 years which the Commons Public Accounts Committee denounced as ‘hopelessly unrealistic’.

I think this is a hard situation for everyone. I completely understand the doctors perspective, but I mean as a doctor, when is the right time to strike? I think as awful as it is right now, things arent going to change while the tories still hold the reins. Striking wont help, only a change in government can really deal with this situation fully. Doctors deserve their pay, they are doing a critical job, and should be paid accordingly. Right now however, Sunak and friends are more concerned with what public services they can sell off while they can, they havent ever and I doubt ever will really care about anyone but themselves and their donators.
