Elegant build for elegant subs. I've often wondered how infinite baffle would sound in certain luxury cars with the air tight trunks and the extra sound deadening those car manufacturers use. Can't wait to see how this build turns out.
@pssound9749

Matthew J. Hull, BAS, BMF This didn’t really have so much extra deadening compared to what a decent audio system requires. We out in 8m2 of 2mm deadening sheets, plus 4m2 of noise blocker CCF.

Wow, that's disappointing. I remember when Mercedes Benz on all levels had really good sound deadening, at least in the cabin for road noise. Maybe it's just the Euro spec ones they're cheaping out on. I know when I lived in Germany they drive Mercedes, BMW, and Audi, like we drive Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler, in the states. Blew my mind first time I saw a Mercedes Benz taxi, or one without power windows. LOL Anyway great job. I really dig your unique approach to system building.

Hi peter I im curious and hope you can explain as i want to learn more about the ib technic in car audio. I have good knowledge on medium installs not high end or emma-builds. Why do you use ib over a sealed enclosure that has a panel that seals it of from the trunk? Does the ib have better transient response and higher resolution or definition in its workingarea than a sealed sub? I just thought that you always going to have vibrations from the trunkspace that can distort the sound when you have it pressurized or not sealed of subenclosure that plays in the trunk? If you build a sealed or even ported box that plays in the coupe sealed of as the ib in this build you eliminate pressure in the trunk and minimizing vibrations and noise? Love that you share your builds an especial this new car. As i wrote on instagram im going to step it up in my bmw220 coupe 2015 after watching your videos. Cheers!

This this!! Is what I need to do with my 2000 Honda Accord. I think it would really tighten up what the 2x 15s. I also think if I flip them around (like here) it'll sound a little better... Idk, I've never tried inverted subs.

Nice... I've been looking into an IB setup but what sucks is down here in Los Angeles car audio shops not to familiar with IB. everyone is in to ported boxes. I love sealed box sound I just think the low frequency below 30 Hertz is best for me I can't get enough of lows!!

Hi Peter, love your vids and thanks for introducing me to the world of IB! Think i'm addicted! Can I ask please about AE subs you recommend for trunk IB like in this video with subs behind the seat in a BMW 3 series sedan? Will play with front stage Scanspeak 12m 4" and Jenhert XE200 8" under seat woofers. SBP15 (4ohm) seems to be the ideal sub for this setup, but IB15 AU seems to be used most in your videos.. so i'm not really sure. Then there's the dilemma of deciding 1 x 15 or 2 x 15 or 1 x 18 from a different range? Thanks!
@pssound9749

Cone area is king, matters more than anything! You’d struggle to fit an 18”, i don’t think you have enough height for that in a 3 series. I use the IB range as it’s cheaper, simple! 😃 The SPB range is not mega different, not at all. It can be suited in smaller airspace of a trunk than the IB, but the IB range is also fantastic in trunk, not just in true IB. HT range is the other option that i’ll try next in the future.

Hello Peter. I realize that this is an older thread. I have a question about IB trunk baffle if anyone can offer input. With a trunk baffle as opposed to true IB, is cone movement limited? Several years ago I used 2 AE IB15's in a Civic sedan. The install was solid. To my ears it sounded great. I do remember thinking that I should have been seeing more cone movement.
@pssound9749

Hi Daniel, When you say more cone movement, what do you really mean? That the drivers should move more in IB without compression of a box?

Thanks for the reply. Actually I was watching another of your videos showing your true IB setup with the vent under the car. I understand those subs were playing super low. It just reminded me how with my trunk baffle, I sometimes felt there was not much excursion. My question is about comparing true IB to a trunk baffle which in effect uses the trunk or boot as a box. I haven't had a system in several years. Since finding your videos, I feel myself sliding down that slippery slope. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Nice, just checking how do you arrive at the decision on that the build requires 1/2 subs, advantages of using 2 subs over one ?
@pssound9749
6 жыл бұрын
Mr. R.S for a normal SQ setup 1 15 in IB should be enough. However, as you can see this project was about as little compromise as possible! Should you ever want to turn it up and let the bass massage you, this thing will never struggle, yet delivering the finest and most accurate low-end response.

Dutch Car Audio Not really, unless a subwoofer has a fairly high mechanical noise, so then you’d rather want the magnets in the boot. In this case space constraints and mounting points dictated.

Jose Torres when it’s done properly with the right subs like in this case, then it’s 100% worth it! The low-end on IB setups under 30Hz is always more sensitive, very effortless. While most other solutions start to roll off and would need 10x more power to keep up, IB just carries on leaving no notes to be hidden!

If the air space is large enought that the QTC or something isn't much different than the QTS, then it's _effectively_ IB, and will function the same. Basically, go for a box much larger than VAS. Like 2x-4x minimum, IDK.
