i have the 450mt for a bit more than 2 months now, and i have clocked in around 4000km, so for anyone interested, here is my opinion so far. Its very well built, i had a versys 650 before and decided i wanted something more offroad capable while still being able to travel. I had a car crash onto me and the thing took it like a tank, no damage whatsoever other than a slight bent on the steering wheel and some scrathes. Stock it comes with a 14 tooth front sprocket, good for offroad and some mid range speed hooning but i opted for a 15 tooth which allows me to cruise at 110km/h at 6k rpms (it was around 7k rpms stock) A friend gifted me a larger windshield for it and it fully covers me, but stock windshield wind protection is ok I put in a performance air filter from DNA and it made the thing even snappier at low speeds (you can mod the air filter cap to a "stage 2" kinda like the 3 by 3 mod in the drzs) Aftermarket options are FILLED, you can easily spend another 5k on top of it in performance and accesories (full titanium exhausts with ecu remaps and even more aggresive cams the list is endless) Personally i am thinking of buying the "tall seat" and putting in in the lower linkage, it will make it 1cm taller but it will make the bent of the knees less "aggresive" since i use it for long travels Its average fuel consuption on mountain twisty roads (mostly in 3rd gear, about 6-7k rpms) while chasing a V-strom 650 and being chased by a cf 700mt was right below 5 litres per 100 The cst tyres are perfectly fine in dry conditions but once it gets wet its like riding on air, one twist of the throtle and you are drifting, so thats something that needs to be changed now that winter is approaching Its top speed is a bit of a let down for some, but me, being a big boned food enthusiast, while having a top box and a larder windshield on it, was able to clock 157km/h, which i find perfectly reasonable It can pass cars in the highway at speeds of 100-120km/h by opening the throtle but anything higher than 130 and its smaller engine is showing its lack of horsepower (when compared to 650s, which again, is to be expected) It feels light, playful and happy to be close to the redline while still being torqy at low rpms, its exhaust note is intoxicating, the brakes have a nice bite to them, not too strong of a bite but definately strong enough I raced a himalayan 450 from stop light to stop light and it didnt really compare, i kinda walked away once we changed to 2nd gear (the himalayan driver was my dealerships mechanic and even he admited the 450mt is the "more complete" option of the 2) I kinda just wrote whatever came to my mind but i will be more than happy to answer if anyone has any questions

Well since you brought it up how did you like your Versys 650? I have an sv650 and for the type of riding I do a 2 cylinder around 70hp bike is perfect for my commuter and light touring. Reason I ask is I’m leaning towards a Versys650 as my next bike. I’m never going off road as I would just buy a dedicated dirt bike if I wanted to get back into dirt riding. I really just want wind protection and more storage. I’m going to a cfmoto demo day soon and I’m excited to check out their lineup.

@@CaseyRyback-fd9xy I am a Versys 650 owner 13,500 kms in four months . Versys has 17 inch front and back tyres. So even with Pirelli trail 2 tyres .. it is limited to light gravel duties . But it is one comfy bike I am 5 ft 8 29 inch inseam . The 23 model , in unrestricted form is about 67 HP . It weighs 218 kg wet It feels awkwardly top heavy when braking , but it teaches you to brake properly and carefully … very easy bike to drop after coming to a stop on an incline if you are my height or shorter , if you don’t prepare . As a comparison I also owned a Honda rally 300, it had a 40 mm higher seat height , yet due to lower weight , coming to a stop was much less of an issue . Great bike to tour on . Great bike to go fast on . Great bike to wheelie But it is not a beginner bike .

The versys 650 is the perfect "do it all" motorcycle, its so perfect it almost becomes boring 🤣, it's biggest flaw is its engine, it likes to rev but its too smooth (that's the "so perfect its boring" part) and unenthusiastic compared to the 270° cranks like the tenere, you kinda feel it top heavy but in the twisties it drives like a civilised supermoto, wheelies endos the whole show or just a daily commuter/ comfortable traveling motorcycle, if it had a more enthusiastic engine note/ way of working I doubt I would have sold it

Got mine yesterday and went for about 90 km drive today.I live in Medellin Colombia. So territory with a ton of mountains and twisties. First gear is a bit jerky. But you can start in second and it gets smoothed out. I am going to go to lower link. But the authorized dealer doesnt know how So I will take it someplace else. If they notice the difference it will void the warranty. It has everything I need for adv/off-road riding. I am a bit afraid of going down twistie dirt roads at any rate of speed. That is why I want to lower. I have a bike doing in city riding. Here everyone is supposed to take a day off of driving according to you plate. I also am considering playing with the susppension too. Just a Bit too hard for me. Great video! It could be the unicorn!

I also have the MT450 with 1500 miles on it. Stock short final gearing is a fail, at 70ish mph the motor spins at 7000 rpm with 8500 red line. This 7k is ok on my Rally 300, not here. 15t sprocket drops rpm by 450. Initial off idle fueling was shit, cfmoto has an update, it helps a lot. Maybe the USA bikes come with the update already. For my 175 lbs weight, the front remains stiff even with the preload all the way out. My bike was delivered without the pivot bushing installed in the clutch leaver. In Poland, the dealer had new handle in 5 days. The short gearing sucks, I bought the MT450 for adv rides. I do like the bike, but my fixed Rally 300 ($9500 all in now), for the dirt oriented riding is a better bike.

@@6Twisted the engine, exhaust and frame is a lot heavier on this bike as it has to do longer service intervals, be able to carry way more weight, pass strict emissions, have wind protection for the legs and torso and so on. compared to other adv with similar engines weight is a tiny bit below average actually. even if they could make it much lighter, it wouldn't make sense to make it lighter than about 165-175kg that as that is about the limit for A2 power to weight ratio compliance (0.27hp/kg) with an engine that makes in the mid 40s for power.

I am a total motorcycle mechanical noob, I just ride them, not understand them. My question is how does a twin 450 compare and contrast to a single piston 450, say CRF450RL?
@domenik8339
28 күн бұрын
I have 20 years riding experience and have had a couple p twins (like this mt) and far more than a couple single cylinders. The single cylinder bikes vibrate a bit from all the power being placed on that single cylinder, but it's not bad by any means and once you have the bike you'll think nothing of it. The bikes make peak torque easily (usually around 5K RPM) and are happy to sit right at peak torque, meaning if you suddenly need to start climbing a steep hill, just a small increase in throttle would allow you to do so. P twins are essentially the opposite. They have much less vibration, are smoother in general, but need special care to be ridden offroad because they make peak torque far later in the RPM range. This leads to needing to be "wound out" so to tackle the same hill mentioned earlier, you'd need a lot more throttle and possibly even a run up. P twins are great in the street and for distance riding because of that extra smoothness, but need to extra care to be ridden offroad, and are heavy and tiring to ride offroad. Single cylinders are fine in the street, but will run circles around any p twin offroad.

The twins are a lot smother and have better legs for road/highway work. You can have a 450 single that makes more power that won’t put up with highway speeds as well. It’s weird on paper but in the real world a twin is so much nicer if you have some highway miles to do.

Jesus 440lbs for a 400? The Aprilia Tuareg is only 10lbs heavier and outperforms this in every category except for price. I'd wait, keep saving my pennies up and go with the Aprilia.

Yet the people who have ridden both say it feels much lighter and holds that weight lower. Those crazy Australian guys MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV put it through the ringer and said it feels much better than a T7.

As far as weight goes look at it this way. Less horsepower of course, but has effectively the same performance off-road, but with an engine 60% the size. It's a full size motorcycle with a smaller engine. And it's doing it all for $6,500 US. If they built it to sell at $11,000 like the Yamaha, just imagine how light it would be. It's a value bike that offers a lot.

440lbs 39hp. It’s a heavy slug. Terrible offroad. These were literally just dirt roads, you can ride a supersport bike on these roads. Just get a drz400 or dr650, way better and trusted Japanese quality not Chinese. Even a good condition used adv bike from the Japanese manufacturers are better.

@@p0weraid good idea, makes sense if u have a 300xcw already. I got a dr650 and vstrom1000xt. Ever ride a big adv bike? They’re surprisingly good offroad and some are not much heavier than the small adv bikes like 390 and the ibex450. My vstrom1000xt weights 500lbs, only 60lbs heavier than this small adv.
