I just wanted to say thank you for posting this - and you are so right it’s not “just IBS”. My doctor said that to me and I really wanted to scream. There are times when I daren’t leave the house as I have IBS-D and need to stay near a bathroom. It is affected by anxiety and of course the worry of something going horribly wrong while you are out is the worst and makes it a vicious circle. I read some statistics that maybe 38% of IBS sufferers have contemplated suicide - thankfully it tends to make me furious and determined rather than that - but I understand as it can be so humiliating. I hadn’t realised that I was bloating until I managed to calm it down a bit more recently - I bloated so often that I thought it was part of me! Also I tend not to be in too much pain because I drink a lot of strong peppermint tea. I think maybe the pain is worse for sufferers at the other end of the IBS scale.
