I think it was good story telling to integrate Carly's insecurity with finding a partner and in the plot of her starting iCarly by herself without Sam's help. It really felt like it was a continuation and not out of the blue. There were story elements on it back in the original series as well but it was more subtle, so it was really a nice callback

I was kind of hoping that they would have had Carly show some sadness about it a bit, because Sam was like her best friend, then have the new characters console her and encourage her to be open minded, then have her start dating with Harper's help. That would have been nice.

I really hope they do something about Carly's relationships in a sympathetic way. I used to have issue with how they would treat Carly's dating life so superficially in the original and how shallow she kind of is. Though this could all work if they acknowledged it as her flaw though to address her insecurity. Hopefully they diversify the guys she's paired with too, because her character seems to be into or date pretty much the same type of guy over and over.

I think it’s realistic that Carly and Sam have split ways. I mean the show sets it up that they were in grade school (7-9) when they met and they were in middle school and high school throughout the show. She was the worst character and a terribly written child character. Literally her only personality traits are selfish, greedy, bratty, rude, and entitled. And she wasn't even bratty in a funny way like Megan from Drake and Josh. She is literally a one dimensional stereotype of a gen Z child. And the worst part is the adults reward her behavior and treat her like she is a perfect little angel who deserves to be worshipped. She made the 3rd episode a lot worse. I hope they either fix her character and give Freddie a spine or have her barely show up in any scenes. She has the potential to completely ruin the reboot like the kids ruined Raven's home. I don't blame the child actor but I do blame the bad writing for her character. She is so disliked that the next episode should be titled "iHate Freddie's Daughter". If they don't fix her or at least make her appearances scarce, she could end up ruing the whole show like Chloe ruined the Fairly Oddparents.

@@SmartSmears Raven's home should have been about Raven and her character development but instead it was about her young children. That's why a lot of people didn't like it. It was treated as more of a generic kids show for the current generation rather than a sequel about Raven. She was more of a side character rather than a main character in a show that was supposed to be about her but was about a bunch of children instead. At the very least Raven was an actual parent and said no.
@ilvermorny5098
3 жыл бұрын
Jase Martin Honesly could not agree more. Her character was so obnoxious and I don’t know why TV show writers think bratty/mean kids are cute and funny to audiences. Especially on Disney Channel/Nickelodeon, they always tend to write bratty little girls as the comic relief, cute little sister character, the cute “evil” one.. but it’s not “cute” to be a selfish brat who constantly bullies and manipulates her family. I hope they make her more likable in future episodes, because I agree that Millicent has the potential to ruin the entire reboot- she can still be sassy & maybe have a little bit of an attitude, but it’s not fun to watch a little girl straight up bully her family and friends. (No blame at all to the actor, she is fantastic and adorable, writing is just cliche and overall terrible for her character.)

@AlxCVFX
3 жыл бұрын
The tone feels somewhere in between the original show, and your typical CBS sitcom like The Big Bang Theory. It feels more "real", as in, people randomly cursing or talking about typical stuff like sex and shit, but not to the point of being too much or over the top as some shows are. I can tell they're somewhat aiming for that route, which is great, because they can keep the cringe at bay, while still delivering some funny stuff and making it feel real or natural. I'm willing to give it a shot... I mean, I gave TBBT and 2 ¹/² Men years of my life... what the hell do I have to lose, lol. If anything, the little girl is annoying, so, if they want a Megan Parker/Jake Harper kinda deal with her, then they should work on making that kid less of a nuisance and more of the sassy/punchline type like those characters were on their shows.
@GeteMachine
3 жыл бұрын
I actually think that was the better move to adapt it like a modern sitcom actually. The realness, and grounded reliability feels more refreshing than how a bit absurd the original was in its later seasons due to how generally Dan Schneider's shows started to go after iCarly's first season. At least to me. Now with Paramount it feels like the characters are just acting closer to how the actors actually are in real life and not really acting as over the top as they kind of were in the Nickolodeon show. And I agree, that kid characters can get annoying if they're only there just to be bratty, but at the same time its fine if they're done in a clever way like how Megan was in Drake and Josh. She does need moments of cool down too where she contributes her support the cast as well as her mischief. Hopefully she has some real kid problems too for the other characters to help her with, so we can sympathize with her too.

I feel her bad behavior is a bit overdone, it feels a bit like a Gen Z stereotype, like you said, or another example of the bratty child trope children's shows have used so much. I want her to be the vehicle for Carly and Freddie's character development. There have been some hints towards that, so I'm hopeful. Freddie learns to be a parent, while Carly is the person Millicent looks up and learns to be her mentor. Both need to grow into adults as they're both still the same as they're were as teens. Carly is still falling for every hot guy she sees, and Freddie is still easily pushed around and not in control of his life. Both'll learn to be adults and I believe Millicent will be the key figure in the development of both.

I was surprised by how much I genuinely laughed. While in some aspects, the show can be viewed as more than a bit pretentious, I really like how it was clear that they had a specific goal in mind and knew exactly who the audience for this show would be i.e who the show is for. They not only respect the people who grew up watching the show, but they embraced them in ways that are more than just references. That's at least from my pov. These first three episodes show a lot of promise of what's to come and I can't help but have faith that the crew will do their best to deliver.
@yannick9208

I also think that despite the show being a revival of a really succesful show, they're still trying to find out what they really want and what kind of structure they want to have when it comes to telling a story. And the show already has a lot of haters because every person wanted the other Schneider shows to have a revival or reboot (Something that's really hard to achieve because almost every show has had some kind of controversial issues when it comes to the cast, or the cast is way too busy working on their own projects). If the Icarly revival gets succesful, then Paramount+ might consider producing the other revivals as well. This show is the blueprint for a lot of potential revivals of Nickelodeon shows.

Considering Victorious didn't have a proper send off, that all cast members are still good friends with each other and that they've stated multiple times they would be down for a reunion, I don't know why they would pass up the opportunity of having a Victorious reunion movie to test out the waters instead. Much less money and time investment to make a finale movie to wrap up loose ends than a whole series of a revival. I'm wondering what their plan ultimately is because from where I'm standing this is not exactly the safest project for them to go with.

I really like how this show doesn’t use the more adult edge as a crutch, they don’t have the characters constantly dropping swear words and sexual jokes every other sentence as a way to go “See guys! Look at how adult this show is now!” They do say that stuff but it’s used in moderation and never feels forced, which I like because again, it would’ve been so easy for them to just make this a show where the only thing driving it is the gimmick of “ICarly now with swearing” But they didn’t do that and I really respect that

Millicent is a bit too bratty but I feel the show would be a bit empty without her. I think the soul of the show is the girl finding something she loves and following that passion. Millicent keeps that soul alive as a new generation going through that, while helping the original generation go through their own hurdles. Well, she _is_ the hurdle. I believe Freddie and Carly will grow into adults by caring for Millicent. Freddie will finally learn not to be a pushover as a parent, while Carly will learn to be less self-centered as a mentor.

I think they could do a lot more to expand on the relationships the characters have, I mean to be honest Carly's is kind of narrow. She tends to just date the same types of guy for superficial reasons all the time in the series. If they expanded on her dating and sexuality, they could do more with her too to at least experiment with it instead of her always saying she never likes who she dates, all the time. They could do more. And they never seem to let Spencer ever legitimately meet a woman for longer than a few minutes.

One of my favorite things was how Freddy and Spencer worked so well together as a sort of comedic relief in some scenes. They really mesh well as characters and you can tell the actors had no trouble getting comfortable acting together again. They really build off of each other’s energy, and it almost feels like now we have the same lovable and memorable Spencer-energy times two! Plus, with the age difference I think they have potential for some really heartwarming moments of Freddy looking to Spencer for advice, especially because both of them sort of raised a child in a non-conventional scenario.

The 3rd episode moved too fast and leaned too hard into "topical gen Z-er" culture but other than that the gags felt natural (if a little bit much at Spencer's expense, come on guys can someone else get wailed on - give the 40 year old a break! ). The webshow needs to get WAY better as Carly was so stiff I got a neck cramp just watching. Freddie needs more of a comedic reason to be there besides being the divorced loser with a bratty kid. Lastly, they need to get out of the studio. In the age of tiktok, comedy is mobile.

Maturing the jokes really lets the creativity loose more and I was loving the material they came up with.

Itd be really cool for little things in the background like music or posters and other things showing the victorious crew made it

What a nice surprise! I hate to say I go into most reboots now just expecting the worst, but it was so nice to see this show have the same vibe as the original but with a refreshing new feel to it. Great video!!

My favorite characters were Sam and Gibby and I can really feel there absence. Freddie and Spencer were great before, but I feel like they kinda ruined Freddie. Spencer is pretty much the only character I still enjoy watching

I’m just now noticing that one of the executive producers on the title card is Phil Lewis, aka Mr. Moseby from the suite life of Zack and Cody 😂

Also I wish they had used Sean Flynn for Carly’s boyfriend at the beginning cause I definitely had a “wait is that?” Moment 😂

It’s virtually impossible to watch the new iCarly in my country so I will just watch this without watching it :)
