hello, awesome fishing trip I was wondering how thick do you think the ice is and is there a park nearby that people go to in order to fish ?
@CNCoutdoors

The ice is 4-8” on average but there are sketchy areas with 1-2”. Should get more consistent day by day now though. There’s tons of access points all around the lake, Just use google maps and pick one out

Going there this Saturday. Never fished it, any tips? What boat landing to go off of what to look for etc?
@CNCoutdoors
2 жыл бұрын
South side of the lake is the safest right now, there’s a county landing and Noffke’s landing. Don’t fish a hole more than 10-15min if your not seeing fish. Good luck!

With your jigging set up do you have to watch the rod tip for bite detection or can you feel it and set hook instinctively upon feeling it. I’ve been ice fishing once and we caught crappie, bluegill, perch. Could hardly feel the bites needed to be watching tip or you’d miss them. Not sure if it was the rod I was using or if that’s standard with panfish
@johnwilham8158

Looking for something with a softer tip if possible. Going back and forth between watching flasher and rod tip I was struggling a bit with bite detection. I bought a St Croix avid ice air 30M. Hoping it’ll help with feel on those subtle bites but curious if you have any recommendations
@CNCoutdoors
2 жыл бұрын
@@johnwilham8158 it definitely helps to have the right rod for the job but yes panfish is a completely different bite compared to walleye/ white bass typically. I pretty much just set the hook instinctively to be honest. I watch my flasher until the last possible second until the mark of the fish becomes one with my bait. Then it’s all feel and watching the rod tip. Typically fish on the Winnebago system hit pretty hard and you can feel the bite.

Thanks for the information. A couple of other questions. Is there a certain size snap hook you prefer? Do you use that just for jigging raps or really for fishing anything through the ice (spoons etc). Also what is your preferred treble hook size when walleye fishing with the Snyder lures shown in video? Thanks again, really appreciate it. I’ll try to keep any further questions to a minimum lol
@CNCoutdoors
2 жыл бұрын
@@johnwilham8158 honestly i don’t know what size snaps i use but i would recommend getting the smallest size you can get away with for the lure. With hooks i typically don’t replace them but if anything i would recommend going 1-2 sizes up from the factory hook. Ik a lot of guys that replace the trebles on jigging rapalas with a size bigger and do well. Lots of guys get caught up in what the pros do on tv which might help, i just go to fleet farm/ scheels/ cabelas and think to myself “ that should work” and it typically does. Just have to work with what you got and what you think will work for the species of fish your after. Hope this helps lol

@@CNCoutdoors forgot to ask if u were running a leader? I usually run just straight fluorocarbon with out a leader. I mark fish but over half won't even commit. I run usually just 6lb. Wonder if I need a leader with less pound line?
@CNCoutdoors
2 жыл бұрын
@@justinwield9446 the only reason i use a leader is to add a barrel swivel. It helps prevent line twist from the bait darting around. I used to use 6lb but i got snapped off 1 too many times so I use 8lb and haven’t noticed a difference in fish catching.
