I do a lot of home and appliance repair myself. And so I read a lot of guides and watch a lot of videos. I am so tired of 20 minute videos with 2 minutes of poorly focused information and 18 minutes of jabber-jaw. This video was SO GOOD that I literally stopped everything I was doing to tell and show my wife how good it was! Perfectly explained, fantastic quality, I can actually SEE what you're showing, and you managed to fit a huge amount of information into less than 8 minutes. I've seen videos that would have taken that long just to explain how to test only ONE of the half-dozen functional circuits that are in these devices.

I had too much ice, lifted the arm up and cleaned out the ice bin, lowered the arm then it stopped making ice altogether. I can manually put water in the tray and it will drop ice into the bin. Got a new valve but that wasn't the issue; it could be the contact or "trigger" mechanism. Glad you showed this because the one I have is exactly like the one shown.

Exactly the information required to adjust without damaging the unit.

It is now showing up as the 1st option in search for me. I only had to speed up the video to 1.75 times playback. I fixed my mom's freezer and ice maker in about 20 minutes after a part from the link in the description showed up. A little tip, do not over pack your freezer or refrigerator. That'll damage it too. You can sell your refrigerator, after buying a more modern one that has more space. Also the ice maker is not a shelf for frozen foods. Lol. My Mother was bad about piling things on top of the ice maker. Newer model refrigerators extend out further so they have more storage space. And they have countertop plug in ice makers if you need extra ice. Always good to invest in a good sized deep freezer to go in your basement or garage also. Not in a garage if you live in a cold winter area, unless you have a garage that's heated and has heated floors. A freezer sitting in freezing temps will damage it.

Hello the very end part of this video the water flow adjustment part has solved my Frigidaire Ice makers problem. I was getting Ice that was sticking to the harvesting arms, or levers whatever they are called? and sitting on top of the Ice maker and not ejecting. This was stopping the arms from ejecting the ice and stopping the ice production. I found that my cube size was too small and the tray was not filling all the way across. Causing the smell cubes to freeze to the arms and not eject from the maker. When I adjusted the water feed flow control out by 1.5 turns the tray is now filling all the way across and the Ice maker is happily making a full try of ice, not 6 cubes at a time, and the icemaker is spitting it out just fine again. I suspect the problem came when I installed my RO water filtration system thus dropping the water pressure to the fridge and causing less flow to the Ice maker. The problem has been Off and on since I installed the RO. But it is now solved this has been an ongoing problem for over a year now. Thank you for this informative video. My problem is finally solved and I have Ice production at max again! Thank you so much.

I had a similar problem except the intake pipe was freezing where it enters the fridge and creating a puddle on the floor. The fix was simple. I purchased a 25’ length of 1/4” tubing and placed it on the condenser in the bottom of the fridge. The water in the tubing was warmed by the condenser and entered the ice maker a bit warmer. No more freezing.

it may have a restriction in the evaporator coil that creates the coil. On chest freezers it's foamed into the wall. If thats the problem it's major and very expensive to fix but with a chest freezer it should still work fine as long as more than half is getting cold.

The water inlet adjustment was exactly what fixed our Frigidare Gallery Ice Maker. Our is was freezing in the icemaker and getting jammed. Per your suggestions I turned the water inlet screw 1/4 turn four times reducing the amount of water into the icemaker. This resulted in an almost perfectly operating icemaker five years after purchase. It was never setup properly the day it was delivered. I have since turned the screw another 1/5th of a turn. We get some ice frozen together but only two pieces at most. The icemaker no longer freeze’s or jams so I’m delighted. Thank you!

Your manner of explanation is perfect for my expertise level. I bet you are a great mentor. Hoping you can field one additional question. My icemaker had the blocked and frozen fill tube issue which I fixed, (tks). However now the cubes are being released before they are fully frozen. There is a small air bubble in the cubes that can move around and the cubes are sticking together in the bin. Is there a way to decrease the thermostat threshold? Mr. Appliance Assistant....WORDS are not enough to Express my Thank you to YOU AT 4AM!!! AND THIS VIDEO.! IM A single mom, in a rental unit AND I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE MY ICE MAKER, WHICH MEANS ANYONE CAN DO IT THAT CAN FOLLOW YOUR DEMONSTRATION. Owner lives out of state. I work full time and have no time to wait for some appliance man for 6 hrs to get here. Been there done that! Lol. I just replaced a clogged faucet head with $21.78 faucet head replacement from Lowe's. So Cancelled technican out to my house...lmao. saved owner $350. Next my ice cube maker was making this ticking noise this morning at 4am and I hate noises. So first I'm like where is this noise coming from. Low and behold...noise is coming from stupid ice maker I never use!!!! I have a frigidaire gallery model. So I first pull plug on fridge at 4am. Noise stops. Put plug back in, starts again. Im like I need to find a way to shut off the ice maker. I pull plug on fidge again and hop on KZitem and find your video. Omg thank you! You make it so easy, you explain it so nicely in layman's terms and so I unscrew ice maker, and find that its all corroded and detach it. EXACTLY AS YOU DEMONSTRATED. COULDN'T HAVE BEEN ANY Easier!!!! I LITERALLY HATE NOISY ICE MAKERS WITH A PASSION. THEY NEED TO MAKE THEM SILENT. ANYHOW, PROBLEM SOLVED. ILL ORDER A NEW ONE BEFORE I MOVE OUT AND SEND BILL TO OWNER. WILL DO INSTALL MYSELF WHEN UNPLUGGED. THANK YOU FOR SHOWING US SOMETHING SO EASY THAT AN APPLIANCE MAN WOULD CHARGE AN ARM AND A LEG! This is THE BEST VIDEO to watch if your ice maker is not performing as it should...!!! Thank you for making this video...this is the ONLY VIDEO I have seen that explains the water level adjustment screw...I thought that might be what it was for; but you just confirmed my suspicion, thanks again...!!!😊 UPDATE: Replacing the icemaker was only part of the problem; water inlet valve was also kaput, had to replace that too...valve was not shutting off completely; water kept trickling into the ice tray, but would freeze and clog up the delivery tube...EXACTLY as described in the video...!!! Less than an hour to replace valve...and now it works like NEW...water delivery is faster too...with nice big ice forms like this fridge has not produced in over 15 years...!!! Thank You so much once again for making this video...!!! I wish I had seen this one First...!!!😃👍

Outstanding video! I worked on appliances when I was in high school (over 40 years ago) for the most part, appliances have not changed too much, with the exception of motor driven timers are now electronic timers. The ice makers are still the same and Whirlpool, being the Biggest giants, manufacture most of them. You are so correct about ice makers not lasting very long. ALWAYS replace the ENTIRE unit, Not just the motor. I learned that the hard way. Just after I replaced the control module, the heating element went out. (Which made the old module strip the gears when it could Not push the cubes out).

Great video. I had an ice maker not work due to a wedged ice cube interfering with the ejection fingers. This didn't reveal itself until after I removed the ice maker assembly. We hadn't used the icemaker often due to poor water taste. (Switched to copper feed line, but that's another story). I noticed that ice cubes were getting smaller. Once the new feed line was installed, the ice maker wouldn't restart. You were right- during the time of disuse, the fill tube froze solid- inside near the ice tray. The tube and control valve were covered in ice. I used my wife's hair dryer to melt it all away, adjusted the freezer a little warmer and all is well. Thanks!

Thanks I was getting icicles on the bottom of my white plastic ice maker bracket and then ice all over my freezer inner door shelves and other place where water would fall from. I adjusted the water amount screw and will wait to see if this fixes it. Thanks for the help you saved me some money!

Thank You! I purchased a used model which stop making ice after four weeks. Your video showed me where to look for the problem (clogged spray tube) and how to fix it. Yes! The bin is already starting to fill up with ice. Again, thanks!

Excellent video!! I was able to troubleshoot my icemaker and repair it for $0! One comment: the diagram shows the input voltage is 115V, but i measured mine at 15V

it was the condenser/defroster duckbill valve, Whirlpool supplied a kit to replace it. i did the swap out and this cured the problem. your video was very helpful. the water valve was ok.

+buzz kirscHner Thanks for the response! The clogged defrost drain issue has been extremely common on the Samsung and Whirlpool made bottom freezers! Sorry I didn't put it together. Thanks again for the update!

Thanks for the video. I took my ice maker out to look it over. Did not see any buttons (like you pushed to force it to operate so as to check ejector arms) or set screw for adjusting the amt of water, I also did not see any screws to take out in order to take the end cover off. So, I simply rinsed it off to clean the ice tray (it seemed fine). Water entry tube was not frozen (although this has happened in the past). Dried it off with a towel and put it back in. I put water in the tray in case not filling was the issue. It made and ejected the cubes, but water overflowed as it also tried to fill the tray with water. Now it works except for the fact that it wants to fill the tray too often (5 minutes or so) leading to water overflowing and coming out of the freezer. I have not adjusted any screws, and washing it off (not submerging) with warm water seems to be the only thing that could have caused this. Any help is appreciated. I turned the water off and put the arm up overnight to avoid an further water issues. Please help.

Sounds like the internal thermostat is shorted closed, so it never stops to wait for the ice to freeze. That is a rare problem, I’ve never seen it in real life. So I would guess replacement of the ice maker thermostat would probably fix it. Good luck!
