Your story made me reminisce on my first time hearing them. I bought "Something Wicked This Way Comes" from my local FYE. Now so far in my metal journey I had gone from NWOBHM to progressive to symphonic and power. I loved the high pitched singing, massive orchestras, fantastic lyrics. So it's not surprising that when I first heard "Burning Times" I was like "this... is not for me." I couldn't take the CD back so I just kinda forgot about it until one day a few months later it was the only thing in my car and I popped it in for a long drive. I just brute forced myself into Iced Earth and I've never looked back. These guys rule, no matter who is fronting them.

This song brings back memories. I had bought a ticket to see Megadeth during their 2001 tour, and Iced Earth was the opening band. In my opinion, Iced Earth stole the show. I remember after IE's set ended I just stood there in awe at what I had just seen...I was completely floored. It was a powerful experience. Matt Barlow just brought an intensity to to the set that I really haven't seen matched yet in the concerts I've been to since. This song in particular stood out.
