While I was stationed in Keflavik back in 1969, I rented a plane and flew from Keflavik to the Vestmannaejar Islands (I am a pilot) . Also, flew around Surtsey and took photos... After I landed at Vestmannaejar, there was a bunch of cars that drove up to the airport .. it looked like a parade, and offer me a ride to the city.... It was an awesome trip.... had lots of fun... I did lots of flying around Iceland while stationed there... I wish I could go back and visit Iceland again, However at my advanced age now, it would be impossible for me to do that... I have wonderful memories of Iceland while I was there.

Vestmannaejar was one of the most special places I have ever visited! Everyone was so friendly and I got many offers to tour the island. Unfortunately I was on a tight time frame so I didn't have time. It is definitely on my list to go and visit for longer! I have a real soft spot for Iceland! I bet you had some amazing memories and stories from your time when you were there!

Another great flight with a stunning Icelandic scenery. An excellent video from Mr Tyrer and thanks for sharing. Yeah Iceland is something else. I love that very “relaxed attitude” with those local ATC controllers. I guess you’re next headed to Egilsstadir (EGS) witch is one of very few airports of entry in Iceland before heading south towards England, maybe a stop at the Faro Island’s? I had the pleasure to fly a DA40 from RVK to EGS low level a few years back crossing on the north side of the great glacier. This scenery you’ll never forget. Looking forward for the next leg on this epic tour. Thanks for let me tag along.

The DA42 is my favorite plane of all time simply because of that amazing few out the front. The 62 has 2 giant pillars breaking up the view from the front and the DA20 just isn’t as big/grand and has the prop dead ahead. Something about the view out of the 42 is just incredible. And I know out of all things this is a ridiculous thing to base my opinion of an airplane but I saw a video of a DA42 cloud surfing and that view just stuck in my head forever. Would love to fly and/or own one one day

Hi SV! I did notice that when I downloaded all the footage. It's a fine balance of the camera audio setting and also the aircraft intercom/radio settings. @@richardtyrer What is your favorite piston twin? While I don't own any (or fly/need any aircraft for that matter), mine would probably be the Piper PA-31P, or the Cessna 414/421. For a larger plane, the Piper Aerostar 700P sounds pretty neat. :) I do like your Diamond DA42, but I would not like to have an O2 supply stuck up my nose. Lol... Edit: BTW, you are cruising at a low altitude, may I ask why? I am guessing, cos your flight is a short distance, so the energy to climb to 15k feet is probably more so than the energy consumed due to aerodynamic drag at lower altitudes.

@richardtyrer
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andres! The 340m is really for sales, and that would be from touchdown not allowing for the final round off of the landing. Realistically I won't touch anywhere less than 600m with a clear approach. There is some good data in section 5 of the flight manual which can be found online!
