When the first eruption kicked off, AFAIR the Geologists were predicting a gradual increase in activity, with a 'major' eruption at some time during the next two or three hundred years.
@Vulcano7965

they will likely stay the same. There is even a question if the Fagradalsfjall will experience another eruption since it reached almost the northern end of the dyke intrusion. Assuming the wandering trend of the eruptions continues. Reconstructing similiar past eruption sequences on the peninsula for the numerous other fissures is difficult due to poor historic record and the inability of differentiating lava layers by months/years with geochronological methods. Young lavas are almost impossible to date this way in the first place.
@rosakatrin007
Жыл бұрын
You can find old lava in Hafnarfjorður, which is very close to Reykjavík. Lava is also close to Bessastaðir where the President of Iceland lives. You will find lava in fact in the whole area between Reykjavik and Keflavik airport. Bláfjöll mountain is a old volcano so is driving all the way to Hveragerði. Þingvellir has also old lava, Borgarfjörður is full with lava. In fact many many places in Iceland has lava around. I feel this is beginning of massive volcano eruptions in coming years and months.
@Vulcano7965
Жыл бұрын
@@rosakatrin007 You wont find a single place in Iceland in general that *ISN'T* made from lava :D It's a volcanic island after all. Going by the historical record, there will be many fissure eruptions on the peninsila over the coming decades. The huge lava shield forming eruptions are much older and there needs to be more decisive evidence that the geodynamic situation under the peninsula changed in such a way to support similiar sized voluminous effusive eruptions. We most likely wont know until one occurs, as was the case with the 2021 Fagradalsfjall eruption and it too only lasted a couple months instead of years.
