We did not, there is still real European traditions and heritage in our blood. When christianity conquered Europe, fortunately it did not manage to wipe out our true, pagan, heritage. We still celebrate true European holidays but under different, judeo-christain, names. Greetings from Poland :)

There isn't an English word for Alsherjargoði but it was the highest political power in Althing, in the Icelandic Commonwealth around 930-1262. The title says that they are saying goodbye to the Alsherjargodi because he has died

Allsherjargoðinn kvaddur er ljóð eftir Vilhjálm H. Gíslason. Magnús Þór Sigmundsson samdi lag við ljóðið, hvort þetta lag er það er ekki gott að segja. Ljóðið var ort í minningu Sveinbjörns Beinteinssonar, allsherjargoða.
