Dave, thank you for the comprehensive review of the IC-7610. You pointed out several things I did not know about the rig. very cool.

Thank you!!! and thank you again!!!! Great video. I have had the 7610 for about 6 months now and like most radios people get to a level with them and the learning about what ELSE it will do goes by the wayside. Your video reminded me of what I was missing. The dual diversity use was something I learned in Nam. That is really fascinating.! The R390's had that ability was used quite often. Oh! I had the Yaesu you have now and sold it to get the 7610. I agree with you the Ft3000 is a very nice radio. I liked the looks of the yaesu, but just had to try this one. I do enjoy contesting, so guess this was a logical choice for me. To bad you cant stick the 7610 into the Ft3000 box.....Thanks again Dave!!!..W0AES

The 7600 are what dreams are made of. If only... the money, a location to set up adequate antennas, and the ability to play with it enough to actually use it to its full capability , or maybe my capability. Nice review.

Dave, the 7610 bandscope/waterfall will show 1 MHZ wide on its widest setting and in fact will do the 1 MHZ width one each receiver with the dual bandscope setting. So this will certainly cover all of MOST amateur bands and then some with the exception of the 10 meter and 6 meter bands. The width is adjustable from 2.5khz each side of the center to 500khz each side of center for a total bandwidth of 5khz to 1Mhz. 73 James K0UA

Wow! That is two substantial handsful of radio(s)! I understand being competitive but, holy smoke(!), ......ah, well, to each his own! Those features will prove valuable to more than just contesters. 73 KC1MGW

I think the Bluetooth claim might be associated with using a USB Bluetooth dongle which would allow you to use both a Bluetooth mouse and a Bluetooth keyboard using only a single front panel USB jack. I agree with you that claiming this a feature of the radio is a bit of a leap.

If you haven't already, I can hardly wait for you to review the Elecraft K4D. If it's anything like the quality of this video, it will be awesome, cause this one is too.

Hey Dave great vid, Im a new ham and just got my 7610 couple days ago. It really is a powerful machine. One question I do have is related to CW on SSB. I notice that there are people working CW on SSB but the radio wont send CW unless its in CW mode. Is there a setup for allowing it to send CW on ssb like obviously other people are.
@davecasler

I don't know. I'll have to check that out. My Yaesu FT DX 3000 will send CW while you're in your single sideband mode. I will look for that capability on the 7610.

Dave you have some popping noise in your audio. Might be your mic connection was loose or causing it. Just something for you to check.
@davecasler

Yes. The popping noise is a defect in the wiring in the Sennheiser mic. Until I fix it, I will be using my Rode mic.

Howdy Dave, Well utube did it to me again! I had nice 4 paragraph note going, then blurp, & it was gone! Which is a pain when single finger typing on a phone!!! Grrrr! I would really like to see you do an in-depth on the diveristy & secondary (usb out) SDR operations. Thanks.

Does the IC 7610 have QSK or is it just semi-breakin? I never heard you say. Shoot - that's the very first thing I want to know about any rig because if it doesn't have QSK, I'm not interested. Thanks

Thanks... Hey Ted Mac. Did you know you have a famous name? I remember when Brenda Lee appeared on "The Original Ted Mack Amateur Hour". She was 12 years old (which was also my age then) and when she was 16 she had her big hit and signature song, "I'm Sorry". It's still a great song.

Thanks, say could you find an empty freq, crank up the CW speed to say 30 wpm, send some dits and tell me if you can hear static in between those dits? If you can, that's true QSK. A lot of manufacturers just 'say' they have QSK. It's nice. It's like talking on a 'real' phone where the conversation is two-way. Then, your bud or whoever can break you and get a fill that a crash took out and of course it stops a lot of doubling like on a CW traffic net or a CW group chat. Edit Ideally you want to hear CW in-between your five to seven dits. I don't know if you'll hear static. The best test is to be in QSO and have the guy break you with a couple of dits sent twice.

rwprime1 I’ll give it a try. Tho I’m struggling to copy 6 words a minute. These dudes who are exchanging cw at blazing speeds is amazing. Im just sitting there like, “I’m never gonna get there”. But I’ll try now on 40m cw. You wanna pick a freq and I’ll crank up the wpm

arent dvi-d and hdmi the same except the connector? passive dvi-d to hdmi adapters exist and are cheap as beans
@BartVanAllen

HDMI has royalties for its use - so this saves Icom a few cents per radio so expect to see DVI-D on most radios if not all. Agreed with the adapters.

Your video is barely up 2 minutes (shorter than the 21 minute length) and already has one thumbs-down. I think you have a troll! Fortunately, KZitem counts thumbs up and downs pretty much the same in its ranking algorithm. So they think they're hurting you, when they're actually helping you! de W3DJS (Patreon)
