I have this helmet in gloss white. Never had a problem opening the visor with my joe rocket gloves at stop lights etc. I also love how it locks in 3 places allowing you to ride with the visor open

Thanks for letting us know how you found the helmet, we appreciate it! The Airflite has definitely grown on us, and in addition to the mechanism, we were also impressed with how large Icon have managed to make the field of view. Besides the visor, how have you found the helmet out on the road?

Thanks for letting us know how you found the helmet! When we tested the helmet out, we also found it came in very noisy with 103-104 dB on our meter. Though earplugs should also help with this issue. Besides noise, how have you found the Icon helmet?

@@Championhelmets well noise and wind entering is a huge problem, I solved this by jamming ear plugs into the holes on the inside by the exhaust vent but someone said that won’t allow the helmet to release the heat from inside. While riding i covered both exhaust vents with both hands and you can hear the difference. I only got it because of the Harbinger graphic. Super sick. But i don’t recommend, 3/10. I think icon focuses too much on graphics rather than the performance and design of the helmet itself.

@@Championhelmets 104dB is definitely enough to cause tinnitus or hearing loss.
@Championhelmets

@@biggtribes2780 104dB is definitely a concerning figure, especially since there aren't many options that can help mitigate it on the helmet side of things without affecting ventilation. Hopefully, this will be something Icon will work on for next time. Thanks for the reply! If you find you have any questions, we're always happy to help

I find both of my airframe pro lids to be very comfortable once broken in. The on off effort when new is definitely race fit. I find this lid very comparable to my Bell Star helmets. Seems like a fair review.

@@Championhelmets I was a bit surprised at your assessment of the airframe pro as a heavy helmet. My medium airframe comes in at 3.35 lbs which I feel is on the lighter side at its price point.

@@peytonhibdon7659 You have a good point it may also depend on which shell sizes are being measured since the Airframe Pro has several and we ended up having to measure an XXL. Overall, for weight we found it about light-average compared to some helmets out there and this will also range across different shell sizes

@@peytonhibdon7659 hey man - i purchased the warbird airframe pro a few weeks back now - i found the visor pin annoying at first, but its "beded in" somewhat from me just wearing the lid in the house and opening and closing the lid often to see if i could get it to ease up some, i think it has to some degree.. i can still send the helmet back as its not been used outdoors and as new condition - so im debating if i should keep it OR return it and try a HJC RPHA-11, what do you think?

@@s1dew1nd3r4 The Icon line of helmets typically has a tougher initial break in than a lot of other lids. I also own the new Scorpion R1 air which is similar in many ways. Van at STG rates the Scorpion above the HJC and that dude has about every lid on the market. I personally think the Airframe Pro is a tick better than the Scorpion.

Great review - iv just purchased one of these the "warbird" and straight away my major gripe is that pin on the visor, its a nightmare getting the thing opened without gloves on, nevermind with them on! Thats almost making me want to return the lid and order an Xlite.

Thanks for the feedback! We're right there with you on the visor, it's incredibly difficult to open with that pin holding it shut. Besides the visor, how have you found the rest of the helmet?

@@Championhelmets I think I may do a quick video review on the helmet - I find the rest of the helmet to be nice quality, the interior is really nice, plush and good quality - love the exterior shape and finish and design but that visor pin.. I have no idea who passed that off, it will be nothing but a hindrance out on the road.. Your never getting that open with gloves on.

We generally found the same with the helmet, and the customizability of the liner was also impressive. Though, it is a still a real shame that the visor is so difficult to open. Thanks for the reply!

@@Championhelmets The visor has eased a little bit - i kept hold of it for another week and just worn it inside my house to see if i could get used to it - im still debating what to do, if i should keep this or buy the HJC RPHA11.. what would you guys opt for?

@@Championhelmets 5 months on i still have this helmet - the pin HAS eased over time, its still annoying at times tho - found that the lid does somewhat steam up on the inside of the visor even tho its supposed to be "fog free" its not awful but it does do it slightly on colder days. One thing iv noticed is that the cheek pads are still quite rigid and havent really eased that much, i need to order the "looser fit" cheek pads you can order from ICON which will make it a bit comfier. Road noise is not really any worse than my Shoei X-spirit 2 and the liner feels nicer and the overall fit feels a bit more secure but the Shoei is broken in more.

I'm torn between the Airframe and the new HJC F70, which would do you recommend?
@Championhelmets
4 жыл бұрын
Both helmets will give you fairly decent middle of the line performance. When we road tested the F70, we found that actually the Airframe Pro performed better for material and comfort. The main category that really stood for the F70 was its visor, since it was pinlock prepared with the insert in the box and the helmet has an integrated sun visor, so that gave it a higher star ranking. But if you're planning on getting a pinlock visor for the Airframe Pro or an additional dark smoke visor, then the Airframe Pro may be better. It depends on what plans you have for your helmet and what extras you're looking for. Thanks for the question! Which helmet are you currently leaning towards?

Thanks for the feedback! As far as the Airflite or the Airframe Pro, the answer mainly depends on what sort of riding you're doing. The Airframe Pro is designed as more of a sport helmet and will support more of an aggressive riding position. In contrast, the Airflite is made more for sport touring, which means it has an internal sun visor and is meant for an upright riding position. Based on performance, we'd stick with the Airframe Pro. On our road test, the helmet came out quieter (about 103-4 dB instead of the Airflite's 110), and it also ventilated better by keeping the same temperature inside as the outside while the Airflite was 1 degree hotter. As far as safety, the Airflite earned 3/5 stars from SHARP and though the Airframe Pro has not been tested yet, the previous Airframe has and it earned 4/5 stars. If you're curious to see how the Airflite does out on the road, you can also check out our road test here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/t6iZnIZpg3WLZ20&vl=es Thanks for the question! Has the head fit changed between the airframe and the airframe pro?
@Championhelmets
4 жыл бұрын
The Airframe Pro has a more intermediate oval head shape though some people find Icon's other helmets like the Airflite to be a bit more on the narrow side, so this is something to keep in mind. Nonetheless, you should be able to adjust your fit better with the Airframe Pro than other helmets, since the lining is divided into 5. So, you can get a better fit with more customizabliity. Thanks for the question! What drew you to the Airframe Pro?

The Airframe should actually do pretty well for safety. Though the Airframe Pro hasn't been rated by SHARP yet, the Airframe has. It got 4 stars, but it wasn't as good at side impacts. Nonetheless though, it should serve you pretty well. Thanks for the comment! What drew you to the Airframe Pro?
