Step by Step Tutorial:
1. Make sure you have all products ready to go!
2. Mix your bleach and developer with a 1:2 ratio. (1 part bleach, 2 parts developer). I equally mix Vol 20 + Vol 30 to make Vol 25 developer, (this was suggested by a hairstylist and has worked well for my tone of hair)
4. Split your hair into two parts for two different sessions. (you can start from the top, I just started on the bottom section during this particular time)
3. Apply the mixture to half of the head slightly away from the scalp, as bleach is not suggested to be applied directly to the head. Work in small layers to ensure no parts are missed
4. Leave on your hair until the desired level of lightening is achieved. I leave it on my hair for around 25-30 minutes. With this particular bleach, it is very quick to lighten hair so I would not suggest leaving it on longer.
5. Wash out that section of hair (easier if you start from the bottom when dying your hair so as to not get the rest of your hair wet that is tied up).
6. Repeat step 3 on the next section of hair that was previously tied up.
7. Wash out your hair and towel dry it before proceeding.
IMPORTANT:
- Once the hair is washed, assess the level of blonde achieved. To get platinum hair, your hair must be lightened to that of a pale yellow blonde. If your hair has not lightened to this level, toner can only do so much to remove the brassy/yellow tones.
- At this point (once I've dyed my whole head), if I feel like my roots are not to the level of blonde needed, I will quickly re-apply all over a Vol 20 + bleach mixture (AWAY from the scalp) and give it another 10-15 minutes, frequently checking the integrity of hair and how much the color is lightening. NOT suggested if you have damaged hair!!
- TONING YOUR HAIR -
8. Choose a toner based on what hue/color you would like. I chose Wella T10 (pale blonde) as my shade, but sometimes switch it up or mix colors depending on what color I am looking to achieve. For a more ashy platinum blonde, Wella T18 (lightest ash blonde) can be used. Often, I mix T10 + T18 for a color in the middle.
- To apply, a 1:2 ratio is used. (1 part toner, 2 parts Vol 20 developer).
9. I quickly apply and leave on the mixture between 5-9 minutes, checking frequently at how the color is processing. The color will appear darker / (for T18 often purple) while processing, but will not be as dark when it is washed out.
- How long you leave your toner on is up to you, it is often recommended to leave it on for 15-20 minutes to ensure the color has been deposited within the hair, but I find for me that 5-9 minutes works well.
10. Rinse out toner and condition hair! Then, you're done! If you find that the toner is too dark, there are methods to quickly lighten that if needed.
Here is a video I made when this happened to me, and how to fix it!:

11. To maintain blonde, use a purple shampoo 1-2 times a week (it removes yellow/brassy tones). I linked two of my favorites above.
Disclaimer(s)!!!!
- I am not a hairstylist, and if it is your first time using bleach/hair dye I would strongly suggest visiting a stylist and using this technique to touch up your roots. This is just the way I personally have been able to get blonde hair at home!
- My hair is a medium brown tone naturally, this technique may need to be altered depending on the level of your hair (if it is darker or lighter than mine)
- Be sure to use gloves (we should have, haha!)
