the solution is produce work that's undeniably skilled in it's technique, transcend trends and be better than other artists. treat it as a competition, in spite of how other artists gaslight us into "being ourselves". For most successful artists, they've reached that point through connections to the art world that already existed, so that money and fame is not available to us. Competition is not inherently toxic, and in a world where more artists compete for money, more good art is made, more people see the reason for buying artwork and supporting their favorite artists, and everybody does better.

The problem in pursuing art as an income hides behind the reason art has value in itself. Think about why you are impacted by great works, for the part of yourself that is moved by a masterpiece never existed in the artist who created it. The thing speaking to you is not the artist or art, but your own unconscious, attempting at least, to bridge the gap between life and its meaning. Man is separate from animal in one way and that is consciousness. Take for example, mathematics/arithmetics these are conceptual tools that do not have mass, nor energy but still exist and have easily replicated effects seen everywhere, but take away the observer and math is not changed. Even though the concept exists solely in the minds of men, a universe void of humanity or earth ever existing still has math, it was not created it was discovered. But if you have no mass or energy and exist solely in the mind, then where does it exist before discovery? What mind is present in which to hold the concept of, say math, before any life in the universe could evolve to conceive it. This is what religion attempts to answer, every single culture from the dawn of history some 18,000 years ago to today has aimed at this bullseye. Some get it closer than others but time and time again the people who drove forward advancements in human consciousness, and its shadow the unconscious, have done so seeking a glimpse of god peering back at them through the unrelenting truth of the universe. If you think of spirituality as this man in clouds metaphor we tell kids I would advise an update to your software. The reason art is healing, and has power over our emotions is because of the life that it represents. When you begin to make art just to live you sacrifice having the life that results in art impactful to you or others, the art is not the message, the art is the catalyst to reach life and life’s meaning to you, the observer. Hope this makes sense even a tiny bit.

You seem like you probably weren't alive before social media- as a head's-up, the effects are often exaggerated and you're making attributions that I don't think are accurate. You say that trends and fashion move faster than they used to, that's not the case. People say that a ton, and so I can see why you would take that for granted, but fashion trends have actually moved slower, if anything. Look at an abercrombie magazine from 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020, and then compare it to the fashion changes from the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. The reason people think it has changed is that it is a useful scapegoat, and as people get older their perception of time shifts (everything moves faster). Adults right now are extremely unaware, and so they attribute this to the newest technology. It's my view that television is probably still the primary cause of cultural dysfunction, and social media just disrupts a televised world-view. Lots of people depend on this provided view of the world to make sense of things, so those people are very confused. These two techniques of consensus-building (social media and television) seem to be at odds, and it is unclear to me if that tension will resolve or both types of media will suffer a loss of efficacy. When you talk about 'third spaces' and 'public spaces', and name starbucks, I think you're missing the critique. Starbucks is a private company, and you have to pay them to go there. That's not normal, historically speaking. You need to touch grass- the way you talk it sounds like you are just swimming in reddit or some other hive-mind website.

Im from iraq and born in 05 I experienced in my childhood a life without any media (television or else) All what we did was play soccer hunt birds go to markets and fish Then in 2017 and onward ppl started having internet everywhere It effects are basic Internet made ppl passive , unconcerned, angry at issues that are far away from them (in saudi for example things like George floyd murder or 2016 gay marriage vote were more discussed then actual issues in saudi) Both of my parents spend most of their time on tik tok ( the are in their 50s) I have no idea how this gonna effect the future exactly but younger ppl(born in 2010s) are very isolated from each other in every social way other then school If i had to guess ppl will just be more passive and more detached from reality.

@@taqedog3717 Whoah! People were mad about george floyd in saudi arabia? That's absolutely nuts. It does make sense for a regime like that to encourage discussion of foreign politics, because people's direct engagement in politics is somewhat limited. You said you grew up without television, which is kind of my point. When people around you in 2017 started having internet, did they not also gain the ability to watch television programming much easier? As internet proliferation increases, it is used primarily to watch videos (pornography, but also television and film). I take your point though, I know kids in their 20s, and they are internet-focused with a really narrow range of interests and knowledge. The thing is, I remember it being worse when kids were only informed by television (and public school). The quality of parents has also continued to decrease in america, even though it wasn't very high when I was growing up- there's more broken homes and lots of dysfunction.

@@taqedog3717 Also, from your story, I am guessing that your parents work for the government, or work in some sort of high-paying white collar job. If so, it is not shocking that tiktok fascinates them, government and white-collar workers are not typically very independent or strong-willed people.

Tik tok is used by every middle-aged or old person around here My uncle is a 50 year old bodyguard use tik tok all his time not working My aunt a pharmacist use tik tok all time not working Tribal people spend most of their time in tiktok(which is interesting cuz television never effected them it all) Religious leaders and their students use tiktok all the time The only demographic that doesn't use it are young southern men (like me or my brother) other places like baghdad tiktok is used by young.
