For all collectors who want to truly understand this issue, I would recommend 'The United States One Cent Stamp of 1851 To 1861'. Plate 12 was the only plate that produced perforated type I. Plates 11 and 12 were produced very late in the contract, and shortly before this issue was demonetized in 1861, so it was in use for a very short time before all of this issue was replaced by the new issue of 1861. Plates 11 and 12 have a secret mark, a dot, in the oval frame behind Franklins head. While plate 12 is mostly, if not completely plated, Plate 11 isn't. Plates 11 and 12 used a three relief transfer roll.

By plating this stamp, you can tell what type it is even with the bottom cut off by perfs. Type one only occurs on "C" reliefs on plate 12. Relief A or B are type II. On the Left Pane of the plate there were 49 type I positions, On the Right, 50 positions. The left pane has a number of misplaced reliefs. The Right pane only the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th rows are type 1.

Thanks for doing the deep dive on this stamp id. I’m a newer collector and have one of these Franklin’s and have been kind of putting off trying to id it after getting thoroughly confused by the Scott catalog.

Excellent video Kyle! I'll need to try this with my only Franklin. I have it as #24 in my Mystic Album, but I don't remember how I came to that conclusion. Thanks.

I have my own scott national and an extra which I am checking to see what I can transfer to my own collection.I have 3 of the imperf franklins to check ,a single and a pair. haven't double checked them yet they were in album as #6 and no # on the pair. so this will help on my project. also lots of washington/franklins mostly mint to double check.so in that vein they are worse for time to check than the earlier issues.perfs ,wtrmrks and types for those

Bragging is the only reason you werent prepared and already had a stamp selected. If you wanted to show off your stamps... do that!

I wake up and improvise almost every video, every time. Few, I prepare for. I came up with what I wanted to do that morning and went for it; this is what I ended up with and I chose that stamp.
