You shouldn't assume its identity, many motors do not identify with the designation they were assigned at birth. It should be up to our motors to tell us who they are. The engine in my Suburban was assigned "LM7" at birth, but it identifies as an LT6. Stop Oppressing Motors!

243s are everyone’s choice imo because they lower compression for boost applications. They also have larger valves than 862 and flow more air stock and ported. 243/799 heads same casting. If you pull the heads might as well get some new lifters for insurance. Ls7 are cheap enough.

Hey brother I just did the same thing on summit and… The LR4, LM7 and the L59 could all have that same number🫤 best ways I’ve found (without the vin) is to either pull the oil pan and look at the numbers on the crank or stick a borescope down a spark plug hole and see if the pistons are flat or not.

Correct! The LR4 was a 4.8, and the L59 was the flex fuel version (which I know I don’t have based on having already town down part of the motor). Now of course I haven’t completely determined that I have a 5.3 and not a 4.8, but the person I bought the engine from is a reputable source so I am confident that he was truthful when he said it was a 5.3!

The pistons don't always tell the difference you need to run the number of the crankshaft and rods. 4.8 have a shorter stroke crank, and longer rods I believe. Some 5.3's have flat top pistons, usually aluminum blocks.. But crankshaft and rods are the difference. Used unknown motors, never hurts to check. People do funny things sometimes. These motors have been around for sometime, and that's lots of somebody's to do something funny to it.

4.8’s are great motors and could easily be made into a 5.3 or an iron ls1 if you wanna go to a machine shop and have it bored out

You still don't know what engine size you have that block could be a 4.8 or 5.3 you'll either have to figure it out by the vin number or pull the oil pan check the crankshaft number the crank is the difference between the 4.8 and the 5.3

I addressed this in another comment. I have since had the pan off and know it is a 5.3. 🙂

@@trav.builds okay good deal , I know how hard it can be to get the correct information from engine vin number a lot of sites don't have it right

The almost perfect head for 5.3 are 706 heads. Port them and throw a cam in and hit 400 + hp close to 500. Now that you know the Vin is not on the block but in the windshield. That's called a block id tag.

What the F is a one bolt cam? 😂😂 all cams interchange on 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and 6.2. So why did you say get the right cam?
@trav.builds
Жыл бұрын
Gen IV LS engines use a single bolt camshaft/timing gear. So although the cams are interchangeable, you need to make sure when you order your cam that you get the correct one for your application to match your timing gear. Hope that makes sense to you, if not, a quick google search can help you understand it more. Plenty of people online who had ordered a cam and found out the bolt pattern is wrong! Can always swap timing gears to match the bolt pattern too.
