Hey Dan, just want to share what saved me from a spider bite. A friend, who is a doctor, told me to never be without a 9V battery. He used it on himself when bit by a spider. Just about a year ago, I was cleaning a table top where a friend, who was visiting, was working on his laptop. As I leaned over cleaning the glass table top, I felt a bit on my upper thigh. I was wearing shorts. Very quickly the pain and swelling began to get worse. In about 45 minutes it was much more intense. That is when I remembered the 9V battery. This works on spider, scorpion, snake, bee, etc. Place your salava on the bite area, take the 9V battery and place the contacts on the same area. It nuetralized the venom instantly. IT WORKS! The pain stopped almost instantly. By the second day the swelling was almost totally gone. In another day, the redness was also gone. I don't travel without a 9V battery. Please share this with as many people as possible....

Sorry but there is absolutely no study or literature to back this up. In fact there are studies to prove the opposite. What you experienced was most likely a placebo from an old wives tale. (It did show up in old 1800s newspaper clippings as a method). If you get bitten by a venomous spider (ESPECIALLY a recluse) please immediately seek treatment with a doctor or hospital. Don’t unintentionally make it worse with DIY methods.Ive been in the hospital with a recluse wound for a week and I can tell you it is not fun. Recluse bites can lead to very serious injuries, even amputation.

I’m cool with the spiders that chill in webs. The “giant house spiders”, and recluses, scare the hell out of me. I have a buddy who got bit by a recluse. It left a massive hole in his shoulder. The wound kept opening back up. It left a huge scar. Myself. I was using a chipping gun to knock a hole in an old manhole. To pull new conduit in. The entire ceiling of the manhole was full of these big ass spiders. By the time I realized my vibration was knocking spiders on me. I was covered. I launched so quick out of the manhole, I bruised my knee on the roof coming out. I then proceeded to strip almost naked, rolling around on the ground screaming. People video taped me as they were driving by. Ever since then. Man. I can’t even sleep if I see them in the house.

OMG. 😱 that is literally my worst nightmare! 😬 I’m in the UK and we don’t get those here, the worst that I’ve seen are the tube web spiders. They apparently hitched a ride in the 1800’s from South America, and they’re everywhere here. They do bite, but it’s like a bee sting apparently.. I don’t want to find out though. Fearsome looking things. They are massive, for us in the UK. We’re not used to them. I’ve seen two in my house, they spin tube like webs in the cracks of buildings. Problem is, is if you have seen one, chances are there’s thousands living there. They don’t come out much, but even that knowledge really horrifies me.

Thanks for the video, dan. In 1995 I moved into a mobile home in Southern Illinois that was furnished. After 2 weeks my wife and I separated her taking my 3-year-old daughter with her. I started sleeping on the couch that was furnished in the trailer and the nest of spiders was on the bottom side of the couch. Every time I rolled over I was shaking their house LOL. I received 9 bites on my legs. After about a day and a half I went to the emergency room and the toxins from the spiders stopped my heart and the hospital used the paddles to shock me. In 1995 no one knew of any kind of cure so they put a central line in my chest aorta with a triple lumen so that they could hook up three IVs to me at the same time. They basically bombarded me with the three strongest broad spectrum antibiotics all at once trying their best to do what they could. The toxins were so necrotic that all the bites became holes in my legs and destroyed a lot of stuff on the inside of my legs. Should have got on disability right then but would rather work. Worked until 2014 when I couldn't do it anymore and now I'm on disability because of these assholes. I tell family and friends of mine to try to put several drops of peppermint oil around their windows and doors at the end of summer and that does help stop some insects and arachnoids from coming into the house. I wish this comment section had the ability to add photographs because I would quickly show you what my legs look like today. Every brown recluse is an asshole to the nth degree!

Pro tips: -Do not ever use any chemicals in a tight enclosed space like a shed without wearing a resparator. -To avoid toe bites, stomp your shoes flat before putting them on, or, slap them together before putting on. -Fold the open tops of your socks inside themselves, a pair at a time. This prevents any critters getting into your stored socks. Off topic slightly: for rodent and nonspider pest control, simply sprinkle black pepper anywhere you want to vacate them. They will leave and not return, so long as you renew the black pepper every few months/ once a year. 😎👍🏻

Just a quick note. Spiders may be toxic to eat(poisonous), but all are venomous(they have venom). Some may be too small to pierce our skin, but they have venom. In the US we are lucky to only have 2 spiders whose venom is medically significant(barring allergic reaction, which can happen with any substance): The Black Widow(very easy to identify) and the Recluse.

Brown recluses are said to live in Boulder but i’ve not had to deal with them till moving here. For me, all spiders, as you noted amongst your customers, are all the same. That said, in trying to conquer this helluva nuisance/ phobia, i looked up how to identify them and found this much more helpful and less painful than i assumed or is normal. Definitely helped me try to understand these creatures better truthfully, and although im not sure ill ever fully shake them as something id really rather not allow into my house, i feel like you did a tremendous job with the video and it really has made a difference despite the difficulties you had taping by yourself and whatnot. I live in Middle Tennessee. If you live in a wooded area here, you have brown recluses. I was in a vending business and have found them in the city and industrial buildings too. Our house had a major infestation. We call the “brownies”. We caught hundreds on glue boards a month. We had professional pest control spray with no change. We learned to live with them. Shake out clothes left on floor and stomp on shoes before putting them on. Family of 4 and we have never been bitten. We built a brand new home behind this house and within year, recluses had moved in too. The good news is they avoid you if possible. Their fangs are short so they can’t puncture the skin unless pressure is placed on them, like a piece of clothing or inside a shoe. Many people don’t have negative effects from bites. My advice is lots of glue boards. Keep things tidy. Sprays don’t work very long. Some say diy peppermint oil sprays helps repel them. I have had luck with using ozone machines that get them on the move to escape the ozone and get caught on glue traps. Ozone Must be used for days and you can’t be in house during treatment. We do this when we go on vacation. They are unpleasant and unnerving but if you have them, you have them. You can temporarily reduce population but it’s a constant battle. When weather gets hot, wet or dry, they try to look for better environment like your house.

Brown recluse infestation are dangerous. Acting like they’re easy to live with is moronic. To have an infestation and then one in a brand new house suggests that y’all are doing something like leaving doors or windows open. It’s not the norm to have spider infestations.
@timfolly7323
2 жыл бұрын
@@SheepEatingDuck with respect, no where did I say it was easy. I said it was a battle to keep population down. I encourage you to do some more research on the brown recluse. Experts say the recluse have a worse reputation than the real threat. Rarely deadly and the flesh eating wounds are the exception not the rule. They are named the recluse for a reason. Maybe where you live, an “infestation” is rare but if you live in a wooded area in certain southern states a few recluses become hundred quickly. I lived in a new subdivision with not many trees and didn’t have a problem. Moved to a wooded area and was shocked how pervasive they are. We have our house treated monthly and we don’t leave our windows and doors open. I know you are being extreme to suggest that and know better. Sprays only work if you spray them directly. Powders don’t work long. I’ve tried it all. Sprays, fogs, powders, Diatomaceous Earth, sonic repealers, natural products, ozone, eliminating their “food supply” and more. They feed on their own. They can live for months in a ziplock bag. I did that. The government banned the pesticides that actually worked. They are extremely hardy and resistant to most chemicals. I’ve talked to long time pest control techs from many companies and researched myself for 20+ years. Call me moronic if you like. I’ve done the research. I’ve lived in an area that everyone has them in there homes whether they know it or not. The older the house, the more recluses. I had a friend who thought we were crazy living in a house with a recluse problem. He moved into the area in a newer house and he discovered he had recluses. He thought he could throw money and everything at the problem. He can’t get rid of them either. You control the population best you can. You can not eliminate them. They live in nooks and crannies in the walls, basement and attic. You can’t spray them all when you can’t see them. That’s the bad news. Good news is they aren’t the killers and flesh destroying monsters they are betrayed. Like I said before, they avoid you if all possible. Bites happen because they are in clothing, shoes, or you grab something they are in. They need downward pressure for their fangs to penetrate skin. That’s from a specialist. Look at the medical statistics. They are prolific in the southeastern states. If they were as dangerous as you believe , we would see incredible number medical reported injuries. My original comment was not infestations are no big deal. Obviously I said how we reduce the population with glue traps, etc. and take precautions with clothing and shoes. The point I was making is that eliminating them is impossible in certain areas with current control options allowed by EPA and just know you can live in a house that has brown recluses. Many people live with them and don’t realize it. I see them everywhere because I am hyper aware of them because I was was terrified of them before I listened to experts and lived and raised 2 kids in a house that was old and had hundreds of recluses. Not one bite. I hate recluses but i am realistic about eliminating them. One last note, we think we have a good control of them and turn on ozones machines. Ozone breaks down organic material so they have to get on the move or die. They end up in the glue traps. We had more than we thought because they hide so well and avoid us. Sorry I triggered you with my comment.

We're visiting my Mum in Central Arkansas and we've run into these numerous times. We've been told that the "sticky traps" are generally what work the best because the only good residual that did work was banned by the EPA several years ago. We hired a pest control company that uses Delta Dust, and the traps, but they said that the only other way to kill these completely is extremely expensive. She lives in a rural area, they would surely reappear so that option would be a total waste. I give you credit... Even back home in Southern Ontario, I'm not fond of our spiders (Golden Orb being the exception, they are amazing). Great video and info. Side note and compliment... You have incredible eyes 🙂

Thanks for watching! I have a couple takes on this situation: Glue boards are great at monitoring but will not reduce a population. Also delta dust works pretty well, there are other liquid residuals that work well also, the EPA has banned some products but there are many products that still work great. They're very common in my area and I've caught some in my house. Most of the people who I've known to get bit by one and have a really bad reaction came into contact in areas they didn't frequent. The back of filing cabinet drawers or garage cabinets seem to be a good spot to accidentally come in contact with them. Attics, basements and sheds are also popular, but they seem to stay fairly well out of the way for the most part. As common as they are I don't know very many people who have had a reaction that was worth noting and only 2 people who got the necrotic tissue issue that they're known for. So, I assume either they aren't biting many people or their bite is like any other spider bite for most people who do get bit. I know spiders aren't out to attack people and they serve a good purpose in the environment, but they still scare the living crap out of me no matter how small or nonthreatening they are. As people are now stocking up on necessities I ran for the spider spray! They can live in peace outside, but in my house it's war!

I've heard that it's practically impossible to get rid of an established population in a house. The only treatment, that I've heard of, that will kill 100% is tenting the house but even then there is no guarantee new ones won't just come in and start over. I moved into a house 3 years ago that was built in 1900. It's 4k sq ft and sat empty for 3 years. I've found on average 25 of these guys in glue traps I've laid around the house. This morning, found one chilling in my kitchen sink as it's starting to warm up here in middle TN. I've probably spent about $2k on "brown recluse" treatments, where they dust the attic and spray all over the house, but they keep coming. Unfortunately for me, and my arachnophobia, looks like I'll be stuck with these guys as long as I'm living here.
@DanTheBugMan
2 жыл бұрын
Oh man that sounds like a tough situation. BUT I don’t think there is NO solution. They may be hard to get rid of but they can always be controlled some way. Maybe there are some physical changes that could be made to the home to make it a less desirable location for the spiders. Good luck!
@fargnbastage

@@DanTheBugMan I think the glue traps are the best method. I'm not too sure the dust stuff they do works much as I saw one in my atti. Last year and noped the hell out. I've got two doors to replace and limbs to remove around the house. So maybe as the years progress I'll find less and less. Talking with my peat control guy, he said it's not uncommon to find them.in houses here, and that fi sing 25 a year doesnt mean you have an infestation. He said I should be worried when I'm finding 25 a day.

Call a company to look into extraction of brown recluse I have over 40 people I have done and it helps a lot keep pest control but dusting outlets baseboards if you have a crawl space have them extract there have them pull out insulation it won’t be cheap but it is effective
@fargnbastage
2 жыл бұрын
@@muddywatermafia3863 I guess I'll have to google that. I've done the dusting of dustboard and outlets and my attic and they still get found trapped in my glue traps. I've killed 2 live ones and have found 4 in glue traps since May when they start getting active here. I actually had my insulation in my attic removed within the first year of being here due to a possum getting in the attic. My crawl space I'll eventually get encapsulated. I think getting these limbs trimmed away from my house should help as I've been told they love living in tress and usually will jump from them onto roofs and get in through the small cracks that way. I don't know how "extraction" would really work seeing how these things hide. Are you just simply saying having the insulation removed should "help" but not fully get rid of them, yeah? Cuz you'll still have ones just hiding in crevices and all that.

Poisonous and venomous are 2 different things. Think tree frog (poisonous) and cobra (venomous). I hope he isn't mixing the 2. Also, when I was younger, I happened to find a black widow in our yard (saw red hourglass). We lived in an area that has woods by our houses. I got a 3 liter bottle, made a spider home with holes on the lid, caught the spider, and put it in the bottle. I was feeding the spider grasshoppers I caught. I want to say, I had the spider for only a few days. One day, when I looked in the bottle, I saw spider eggs. I was like "Uh Oh. Can't keep these around here anymore". I ended up walking out in the woods ... Maybe for 10 min, slowly opened the lid, and tried to place the bottle in an area spiders would normally habitat. I just couldn't bring myself to kill the spider, even though it is dangerous.

Black widows are rare up here, and I've only seen one or two of the normal ones, but I had a friend back in high school who used to go with his family down to Myrtle Beach when he was younger and he told me about finding "cool vampire spiders" in the bushes outside the house the rented and about him feeding them and catching them in a big jar. He said he got both colors. Brought em home. And let em go in the woods. Years later, he learned they were black widows. I told him he was an idiot, and he brought an invasive species - breeding pairs - into our area; joked about kicking his ass if I ever saw one. Well, one day we're walking around the corn field to get over to the vineyard, and there spread between the corn and the woodline was a huge web with a massive black widow in the act of building it. She was on the other side from us, so we could clearly see the hourglass. And she was HUGE. Supposedly, they don't get that big, but she was easily the size of a half dollar piece (legs not included).
@drpainglove3389
2 жыл бұрын
@@hanburgundy4317 Some species of widows can get quite large. At least here in America the venomous spiders probably won't kill you. Black Widow bites are unpleasant but they aren't really dangerous unless you are an 'at risk' demographic and I don't think anyone has died from a widow bite in America in upwards of 60 years and you have to be pretty unlucky to get the worst symptoms of a recluse bite(The large necrotic wound). I also don't know if anyone has died from a recluse bite(In America, apparently Chilean recluses are really bad news) although amputations and long lasting issues seem to rarely occur. Wandering Spiders are the scary gribblies imo. They get big, love to wander around human inhabited spaces and their venom is pretty deadly.

Anyhow, I've left him as I've always been taught that the wolves eat black/brown widows and B.R. is this incorrect?
