They really, really should be. Motorcycle riders don't have to wear helmets because of their own level of skill on the bike, but because there are other road users out there, as well as road conditions, and because unexpected things do happen. Cyclists are in much the same situation, while they aren't generally going quickly enough that them colliding with something will be fatal, other vehicles can, and it seems like taking a huge, unnecessary risk to cycle without a helmet.

But to the bias road rage twats, all cyclist, including the one in front of him are braking the law, and should be over taken by inches and screamed at "get a fuckin car". Bit hypocritical matey. How many drivers jump red lights, don't wear seat belts, go over the speed limit, drive erratically, don't stop at crossings and use mobile phones as they drive? More drivers are fined for illegal driving than cyclists... I love how you have a go at a cyclist at 1:51 but the black cab on the right is breaking the law by being over the line... And at 3:07 you stop in the ASL and at 4:40 a car does it too... Which is illegal. I stick to the law on my bicycle, but i understand your frustration. I'm afraid cyclists are the future in London. Another side note, this whole car vs cycle war could end if we copied the netherlands and put cycling paths up and down the country.

Daniel Astbury It doesn't matter, you can still injure yourself very badly if you hit a pothole and go over the handlebars. Especially after what the winter weather did to all our roads. You're likely to get a pretty nasty headwound from that. Plus, you're on a little frame with no protective outer shell, no airbags, no seatbelt, and you're basically up against 1 tonne moving walls. The least you can do is put on a goddamn helmet. It doesn't make you look like a prick, it makes you look that little bit more wiser, hence why the "no brains no helmet" statement is actually true whether you find it offensive or not. What are you, five? I'm not trying to suggest helmets are useless when I say this, but just look at Michael Schumacher - he wasn't going very fast at all when he whacked his head and knocked himself unconscious. What his helmet did do is spare him a nasty wound, and that's why there should be a law saying they must be worn by all cyclists on the road. Just like bicycle lights past dusk, no excuse for not fitting those either.

Artillery Row is hardly Piccadilly Circus. I don't tend to jump those lights myself, but that's more because of the proximity to a lot of security police and army. I agree with you on Euston Road though. Even as a seasoned courier I respect every light on that highway. Interesting point which may or may not be true: I've heard from a policeman that getting off and walking through a red light does not make it legal. I guess the reason being that you could walk a motorcycle through (or car...?!). If you're going to go through a red light anyway, it's probably safer to ride. You have crap steering, no brakes and no acceleration when you walk a bike, compared to when you ride one. You're also in the road for longer and present a larger target. The only advantage to walking a bike is the theoretical possibility of being able to reverse, but in practice (because of how the gears and steering work) this is often very hazardous.

I don't think most are idiots, but I do think without proper road training it stands to reason a lot of them are unaware how to handle themselves in traffic on two wheels. Add to that no lights, no indicators, no mirrors... recipe for absolute disaster. My biggest tip to cyclists: whenever you change position in the road do a shoulder check first to make sure you are not being overtaken. If its clear and you want to turn right, move the bike out from the side of the curb first (after you've done a shoulder check)... don't just look at the turning you want to take and then dart out from the curb, because chances are, especially because you're slow, you're probably being overtaken and if you give that vehicle no clue that you want to change direction it will result in you being knocked off. Whenever you change position you have to be fully aware of all the traffic around you and also make them aware of what you want to do.

The fallacy is that people think bicycles are cars. If a pedestrian crosses the road when traffic is on a green light, nobody complains. We assume they've weighed up the risks and decided it's safe to do so. It's the same with cyclists. If it's safe, what's the point of waiting at a red light? Because it's the rules? The pedestrian is also acting against the rules. Frankly, as a driver, I'd rather the cyclist get a good head start so they can build up speed and make overtaking easier. Incidentally, that same loss of speed is why it's easier to go through things like zebra crossings if it doesn't put anyone at risk. The TL,DR is that I see infinitely more bad drivers than cyclists and I can say that as somebody who cycles, owns a sports car and drives vans and HGV's. I'll take 100 cyclists over ONE Audi, Mercedes, BMW or cab driver any day.

OK, clap clap, we could all pick out bad examples and as a 100% cyclist these make me sick, but we could post dozens of examples of examples of bad motorists. A bike slips through, no problem, and I reckon nearly every motorist would opt for that illegal route. Again, hearsay, equally as valid as your video.
@cornetto2008

Difference its if a motorist does it with dash cam footage I can dob then in (which I have done indeed) and they get fined points etc. I have made a van driver lose his job due to going the wrong way around a roundabout. This was all due to Number plates and recognition. If this driver wanted to do the same how do we track these cyclists. I have had damage to my car due to cyclist leaning their handlebars on my car and scratching it as they cycled off. I have watched a cyclist scratch the side of a car trying to squeeze down a gap and he cycled off. I failed my driving test due to a cyclist cycling off the pavement and into the back of my car. Yes I was infront of him and he just was oblivious. I also have almost killed one as he ran a red light. For not killing him do you think I got a thanks!!! Nope I got a middle finger and a 'go f**k yourself*. Car drivers are bad and I will happily report them. But the issue with cyclists is they do not want a 'level' playing field they want to pick and choose laws they want to abide by. You cannot have your cake and eat it. You either want to drive on roads and therefore obey everything or you don't. Motorbikes are smaller than cars, and I do not see them going through red lights all the time and just driving through zebra crossings. Similarly I am smaller than a 18 wheeler. If I see one turning on a roundabout I do not get on its inside, simply they will kill me. I have taken that personal responsibility so why do cyclists hate doing the same.

I wonder about the amount of months of footage this video maker must have had to trawl through to find a measly 6 minutes of traffic violations, let alone any that are in any way dangerous (although I agree there should be there is no law concerning the usage of mobile phones and bicycles - you know, as a taxi driver, the creator of this video should really read the highway code - and certainly no law requiring a helmet). 2 hours of footage from my daily cycle commute show at least 6 minutes of drivers behaving in a careless and life-threatening manner towards other road users and pedestrians. I do not tar all drivers with the same brush, however, as there is only a small percentage that drive carelessly, as do a small number of bad cyclists act in the same way. I would much rather have a RLJer (red light jumper) inconvenience me than a taxi suddenly pull over in a red zone without indicating to pick up a passenger. Only the latter has ever happened to me, and happens frequently. It is about taking responsibility for your vehicle and recognising the danger that you pose if you act carelessly, driving is a privilege, not a right.

Isn't 30 mph the speed limit, and who really drives at 20 mph in a controlled zone anyway] - hit and run [this never happens does it because they have insurance] - stopping past the ASL [only cyclists can pass this line, its the law] - driving without due care and attention [happens everyday causing accidents and turns roads into car parks] ...I could go one, but yeah having a number plate and insurance does everything to make motorists abide to all road laws !!!!!
