Idnyas (western quolls) have been extinct in the north flinders for almost a century. In April 2022, Adnyamathanha Traditional Owners welcomed the first release of quolls back to country in the Vulkathanha-Gammon Ranges National Park as part of a reintroduction project supported by the SA Arid Lands Landscape Board, National Parks and Wildlife Service SA, the Australian Government's National Landcare Program and the Foundation for Australia's Most Endangered (FAME). The idnya were relocated from Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park where the population is flourishing after they were reintroduced in the park a number of years ago. Control of feral cats, foxes and goats through the Bounceback and Bounceback and Beyond programs are key to the survival of the idnyas.
