This place provided so many people with some of the happiest times in their lives. Thank you Idora Park.

It's sad to see a place meant to entertain families now in ruins.

They could've saved this park if they really wanted to, but considering they were losing money to Geauga Lake in Cleveland and Kennywood in Pittsburgh, they figured it wasn't worth spending the money to keep it going. Damn shame! That was a great park to go to and it was right in my backyard.

i remember going there all the time, the train ride lasted the longest in this area after the park closed and now i hvae no idea...wish they couldve save the old park some how, i remember going to the car shows they had at the ball room. they blame they closed the park because of no one wanting to go there and it was set on fire on purpose(rumored) I agree totally this area needs it back but with unemployment so high and this area so depressed it would be hard for such a small area to support

I spent many a summer in this Park in the 60s. I remember the Bob Cat and the Wild Cat coasters. They even had a Kiddy Coaster that was a lot of fun. Then the Fun House next to the Bumper Cars and the Air Plane rides. What a waist of a great Youngstown landmark.. Even it it was not profitable to keep it running, some one could have preserved it as a Museum. Sad, So sad, just like the Steel Mills along the River. I remember the great glow of the Furnaces blasting all night, the loss Sad..

I no longer live in Youngstown but last I heard the city was making a comeback. How long is that land going to waste away before the city or someone group takes control of this land and do something with it. That church of whatever that bought it has let it waste for 20 years.

Yes, the fire occurred in April 1984, which was ultimately the park’s killer. It closed in September 1984. This was recorded four years later.
